“Miami built an offense out of exactly what Tua Tagovailoa is uncommonly good at: his hair trigger, impeccable timing and accuracy, superlative pocket management (even behind consistently leaky lines), his physical coordination, and unusually quick feet. That idiosyncratic skill set was always destined to be uniquely compatible with both the system and the coach. Even before establishing an offense that other coaches commonly copy off of in Miami, Mike McDaniel had shown several times in his career that his hallmarks as an offensive innovator lie in his use of misdirection, accelerated timing, and creative choreography to create defensive hesitation, favorable launch angles, and maximized throwing windows. But he needs a trigger man whose core competencies favor those particular areas in order to make it all work. It's far too easy for the casuals to declare that McDaniel can just build a new approach from the ground-up, when that is a completely unproven claim. Because those necessary skills don't typically draw the same value premium from NFL front offices as the more traditional, tangible qualities, it's not a coincidence that San Francisco found their Jimmy Garoppolo by trading a 2nd rounder, nor that they found Brock Purdy with the literal last pick in the draft. For that matter, it wasn't a coincidence that Mike McDaniel found his Tua Tagovailoa in a player whom the previous head coach tried to trade away. But the lower price tag does not make the process of finding that guy any less perilous. If you think these coaches can repeat that success at will, finding a suitable quarterback with the snap of their fingers, or that they can just insert whoever comes along and get the same result, you have not been paying attention.”

A lot more to read from CK..

We talked about many times the hi level traits of our Qb, you now have both entities in place to exploit the skill set and the system.

Must keep it together to see exactly where is this unique ceiling.

There have been times where when watching Tua operate this system I’ve been like ****, I’ve never seen offensive football like that before

When you combine the depth of target with the speed of the ball getting to the target it’s unprecedented territory

It would appear though that better defenses have it figured out and can stifle it. It's McD that has a problem going to something else to shake things up a bit. His play calling makes no sense sometimes.

Yes I agree that situationally there needs to be more intuitiveness.

    Let’s hope the growth continues.

Seems like a guy that will be self critical

There have been some play calling that has driven me nuts. The bubble screen to Hill, “pick 6” comes to mind. Hate those damned plays.

As far as other teams having figured out McDaniels offense, I would submit opposing dominant defensive lines overwhelming our weaker OL and jamming receivers at the LOS has been the Achilles heel. If the OL could just BLOCK on those occasions and allows Hill and
waddles elite speed to get around that initial jam, we’d be alright. Our OL has been such a turnstile for the last 20 years that none of our QBs have had the luxury of being able to sit back in the pocket and let plays develop.

Year 3 with the focus on the TE will be intriguing to see.

Yup, the offense has to take another step of evolvement

We know McDaniel believes “Tua is the best first option Qb in the game” and we know that’s how this offense works best, if it’s available and a lot of times it is, but I think there has to be another legit wave of offense and Tua is gonna have to be able to see and feel if that 1st option is too risky and have a plan.

That’s the bottom line you know, right now we’ve seen Tua and all his hi level skill shred that first option to the tune of the nfls #1 rated passer but the there a reason why the term”winning football” exists.

That involves taking what the defense gives you, because of how space is available, because of how you deployed your weapons in route.

I agree, I hate any at the line of scrimmage or behind the line of scrimmage pass to receivers where the are stopped waiting for the ball.
