He was rated.7th in running game but can't pass protect. He is ranked 2nd worst. This is a huge downgrade from Williams.
Still plenty of good OL prospects available at 55 plus some WRs and DTs. Will be interesting to see on which way they go.
I was thinking the same thing. Was planning on posting this morning asking y'all if you noticed. He was kinda slurring and def had a hard time reading or saying the wrong words. It was weird
Depends on how you define productive. If you are referring to his individual tackle and sacks stats, then perhaps not. If you are referring to his explosive abilities that cause disruption in the backfield resulting in a negative play, then yes he has been.
That’s right. He definitely needs to get better at pass pro. Another good thing about him though is his versatility. He’s played all over the oline. And if last season was an indication of anything, Butch can coach. I’m confident that his pass pro will be better this season.
Very noticeable. When the nephew to the fallen vet was up there with his family calling out a pick I said to my wife, “This 8 yr old kid spoke better than Goodell”. Lol. I think he may have been drunk.
One good thing i hear is that he has a high motor and loves the game. Not sure same could be said for either Jordan or Harris.
The high measurables are the concerning part. How has a guy that effectively checks every box never been able to get sacks consistently? I will be the first guy that will tell you that a sack total in a given year can be misleading and there are many times a guy has a disruptive play that "could have been a sack." I would also say in those cases, I would expect a return to the mean. This never happed with Robinson. He was a four sack per year guy in college. I just have trouble wrapping my mind around him not getting sacks in college and then coming to the league and somehow becoming a sack monster.
Of course total sacks should be looked at when drafting an edge player, but it’s not the only, and I’d argue not the most important thing to look at. All players come with things or reasons as to why they may not work out. However, Chop has so many things that are NFL ready. If Weaver can take tweak his technique a little he has all the abilities needed to become a sack machine. And as CK wrote in the above Tweet, disruption is production and he’s been the most disruptive defensive lineman in college for the better part of two years. The Dolphins need(ed) OL, DT, Edge, DB, and a WR. They’re not getting all of that in one draft, much less a draft with only 4-5 picks. They got the highest athletically rated edge player in the country. Hopefully the o-linemen and d-linemen they picked up in FA can be at least average and Cam can actually play like he did last preseason. If they believe in those guys, then a WR may be the next pick.
Every OL got hurt for multiple games last year. We did well with backups for the first few games but then, as we got one back, another went out. We were bringing in street free agents in December to play OL AND front seven. It was the perfect storm for what could go wrong.
This graphic is very encouraging. Nobody's mentioning that he is going to come off the edge opposite Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, so that's going to up his effectiveness. Also (for those who won't click the tweet):
I know we could really use a RG/C combo but wouldn't be upset if they drafted Corley or another WR. If they grab Frazier at RG/C maybe we can be done with Eichenberg though...
Not really sure what ur point is.The first half of year I would say we had a decent line. After the injuries our line sucked and we are now beginning the season with alone that more resembles the later line before injuries. Certainly not better
Last year at this time I was very optimistic about this team. This year I dont.think we will.make.playoffs.This roster is simply weaker.than last year and the AFC is loaded.
Exactly where I‘m at, but I think they will challenge for a playoff spot. Let’s see what happens til the season starts.
Joel Klatt has Chop as his #4 overall D prospect. Per Wiki, Joel is Fox Sports lead college football analyst.
We aren't done building the team yet lol. Our biggest divisional opponent is going backward. Our second biggest divisional opponent is relying on a 40 year old drug user coming off an achilles. This idea that we are somehow done and may as well give up is just silly. Maybe we will suck and miss the playoffs and everyone gets fired. Or maybe we actually are good like we have been, make the playoffs again and win a home game. A few more things on Chop. His defensive coordinator at PSU is ... the same guy that coached Jaelen Phillips (that being Manny Diaz). He runs a scheme that shares a lot in common with Weaver's scheme, so he shouldn't be coming in blind or with no idea of what's happening. Conversely, on Miami's end, we should have an idea how he fits in and not be flying blind trying to ram a square peg into a round hole. Let's also be real. If he even approaches his potential and is a solid Edge guy, his value and worth from a contract standpoint will be much greater than grabbing a guard or interior OL. McDaniel is insistent in saying they believe in their OL development, coaching and scheme. They will find guards and centers. They are probably a lot higher on their prospects than we are, and probably also more bullish on Eichenberg than we are. We aren't paying Chubb AND Phillips. The latter will be gunning for a $100 million contract, it's no guarantee we keep him. The likelihood of replacing one of Chubb/Phillips using a first rounder vs a lower rounder is much greater. People are getting lost in mocks, "needs" and media attention more than looking at how Grier has drafted, what McDaniel is saying, contract values and upcoming contracts. It's why I wouldn't be surprised we take a WR over an OL in round 2, because I'm not sure Tyreek is here more than a year or two, and because Waddle is going to get a Brinks truck.
Very true. But he was a head case and drug addict. The Dolphins FO and medical teams missed big time on that. However, they’re not really allowed to get into the mental side of players now during the drafting process, so you can’t really blame them.
Jordans problems were mental. He had all the talent and ability to be special and threw it away. Is there some reason you think Chop is similar? I know nothing real about him.
By all accounts Chop is a stand up and stable guy. If we remember, Dion had a rough childhood and was also badly burned as a child saving a family member from a fire. He has demons, which is sad because he had tons of talent.
I thought they said something about how he had back surgery a couple weeks ago, so he was on some heavy meds, especially after he got a big bear hug from one of the early drafted big guys.
He will play. Weaver wants to rotate guys even if all are 100% healthy. He wants guys fresh later in games and late in the year. You can line Phillips up at 3 tech and put Chop on the field at the same time. Unleash these dudes. You just can't let QBs get comfortable in this league. He was struggling right from the start, wouldn't think you'd be on that heavy of a painkiller weeks later but I'm no doctor lol.
Belichick had Robinson higher than Verse on his big board and the 19th overall prospect. I think he knows something about defense.
Keon Coleman to Buffalo. I'm not sure how I feel. Dude was absolutely balling but fell off a lot (FSU QB troubles did a lot for that). Kind of got bypassed in the offseason ... I don't hate the pick for them but I'm also not really scared. Big target for Allen at any rate.
Just continuing from last night lol. WR is one of our bigger needs, wouldn't mind seeing Ja'Lynn Polk fall but who knows at this pace. OL may be the position that has guys pushed down.
With Robinson’s play and seeing how he doesn’t have a high sack or TFL stat, I think the fair question would be what did Penn State’s defense do when Robinson was on the field. Watching DDW’s YouTube channel today, Robinson’s disruptive play was so effective in the game against Michigan that they essentially abandoned the pass and started running the ball because of Robinson’s play. Just food for thought.
Not essentially, entirely. 0 passes in the second half. His sack totals aren't impressive, but there have been more than a few elite rushers who didn't put up sack numbers in college. Danielle Hunter and TJ Watt for example. WR and DT flying here in round 2. Surprised Sweat is going so high after that DUI a few weeks ago.
