Brewer was an undrafted free agent who, as a rookie, secured a spot on the Titans roster in 2020. He provided depth at guard and center, appearing in 41 games and making 23 starts at left guard, right guard, and center throughout his first three NFL seasons. In 2022, Brewer started all 17 games for the first time in his career, with 15 starts at left guard and two starts at center. Last season, Brewer became the Titans' starting center. He gave up a lot of sack and pressures up the middle.
Brewer has started every game at center the last two seasons. A great run blocker, everyone seems to say he's a liability in the pass game. Should be a good fit in McDaniel's zone running scheme.
Hopefully they can get Williams on a cheap one year deal to play guard and backup Brewer just in case.
He's probably starting C unless we make a June push to readd Williams. But it lessens the urgency, and also gives us flexibility. Same with the draft - we can still go for a JPJ and let him and Brewer compete for C with the "loser" moving to G. A good move, pretty solid OL replacement. Plus he's been durable.
Can't say enough about the Jordyn Brooks signing. Definite upgrade over Baker. Brooks did some good things in Seattle! We got a tackling machine and a hard hitter here. Hell...yes.
I am gonna give Mikey the benefit of the doubt on o-line. They really improved a lot of the guys on the line last year, and if we can make positive improvements on Brewer's pass blocking, this could be a pretty solid deal.
U guys are sugar coating this signing. This guy was second worst center in pass protection and sign him on a passing team. Stupid signing which makes no sense.
How can he be a bad pass blocker and a great run blocker? Someone here told me it's the same exact skill. Anyway, nobody is saying this is a home run. It just seems like he fits the zone running, quick passing offense due to his ability to get to the second level. He is very athletic.
All I can say about this signing is I guess the Dolphins agree with me that pass blocking with Tua is rather irrelevant.
Well, at least we won't have to wait until the last four or five games of the coming season to know the Dolphins aren't winning the division.
And yet, they're guys we're going to have to replace. How do you think we're going to do that without much salary cap space and few draft picks?
I like how you used “when”. You are already dreaming about that outcome, aren’t you? I actually don’t like the signing either, he’s not what I would have wanted at C but obviously Mike wants an athletic C that can reach the second level in the run game. Cant say I’m thrilled with this signing.
No, most of them needed replaced. The defence had failed under 3 different co-ordinators with most of those guys. It was time to try something new.
I must have missed all the improvements the Bills, Jets and Pats have made. Has Buffalo signed a whole new defence yet?
Every team has to replace players every year. Some (like Cousins) will be difficult to replace. Some, like Jones, Baker, Ogbah and Crossen, will not. I’m not going to curse them after day one of free agency. All I’m saying is, let’s see how things play out, along with the draft, before consigning the team to the AFC East cellar.
Dreaming? Not at all. I don't want any excuses. Seems like a crazy reach on day 1, and Titan fans are laughing at us about it. I've said it before, I'll say it again, pass blocking isn't very important in this offense.
On the face of it, I was shocked as well at paying out $7M per season for someone who pass blocks slightly better than Eichenberg. I've watched some highlights of his play now and I can see why McDaniel wants this guy, he is so quick and explosive in the run game. The run game last year fell off a cliff when Connor went out due to the centre not being able to reach the second level and makes the blocks he could. This guy can do it easily. Also, ESPN write up said he was 13th out of 32 centres for pass block win rate, so maybe McDaniel and Berry think they can coach the guy up and his pass blocking isn't as bad as it looks at first glance. As you know PBWR is taken at the 2.5 second mark and Tua averaged 2.3 seconds last year. Still not thrilled with the signing as I think we should be shoring up the interior of the OL with the best pass blockers we can but it looks like McDaniel might need the centre to be an athletic run blocker for the running scheme and he's prioritising that.
Butch Barry did very well with the talent he was given last year. It was when they got into the 3rd string and even 4th string players where it started to fall apart. What did they have 11-12 different offensive line combinations last year? It's hard to build continuity and keep communication tight no matter how fast your quarterback gets the ball out.
The hell do we care about what Titan fans are saying lol. That is a franchise going the wrong way fast.
He is a thumper. And good at that. Brooks has a lot of issues in pass coverage though. Brewer is undersized and has rated poorly in pass protection. Very athletic which is good for our run scheme. I’ll wait to pass judgement on him considering that entire Tennessee offensive line was a complete dumpster fire in pass pro… so maybe that negatively reflected on Brewer.
With the new math is 8 million Greater then 70 million cause all the restructuring that would easily clear 70 million was only 8 LOL NO you said they would be able to sign all the players plus add to the team and we were wrong. Tried to tell you you were wrong, but again you refused to listen. We said we were going to lose the majority of the defense and other players because of cap space and we have. Just admit you are totally clueless. Stats from the Atlanta Falcons own website with their depth chart listed. Somehow, I guess you are going to say they both had 50 catches and 500 yards LOL ...
I'm not sure you can really coach up his size. Can't change physics. He's like the smallest center in the league. I would have just waited longer, and see if his price dropped. He wasn't a day 1 signing that you lose a pick for. That's just crazy to me.
It's not like the fans get to choose what the organization does. However, the fans have watched their center long enough to probably recognize if he's good or not.
Right, I mean there's a reason why Wilkins is making 4x as much. Not comparable, and I really like Sieler.
Still flailing and wrong I see… man you’re bad at this. Kyle Pitts had more receptions (53) and yards (628) than Smith last season. Go back and read my pos I always said if the Dolphins wanted to keep these guys they could get to around $80m under the cap. I also said that would depend on the money they were offered elsewhere. Paying Wilkins and Hunt nearly $50m AAV would have been insane. You’re OK with that it seems. The Dolphins and most other rational people are not.
