Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver held his first press conference since landing the job on Thursday and he shared one detail of his plans for the unit next season. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey rarely moved from the right side of the field while playing for former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in 2023. Weaver called Ramsey the ""ultimate chess piece” on Thursday and indicated that the team is not going to be leaving him at one spot in the defense when they hit the field later this year. “To have him sit outside and be a field corner or something like that, I think is a detriment and we got to find ways to move them around where he can be most impactful,” Weaver said, via Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald. Maximizing Ramsey’s impact on games would seem to be a step in the right direction for Weaver as he works to put his stamp on the Dolphins defense.
''Yeah putting Ramsey on half the side of the field and not using his incredible skill set is just another dumb move by a so called legend “Let that guy play the star role every damn game, phenomenal football player with one year of waste..he needs to be in the middle of the action. What an idiot'' I could give you 10 other reasons why that guy sucked
I'm not going to pile on Fangio. I wanted the guy as our DC last year. I was ecstatic when we hired him. I think at this point though he is living off of his one season with the Bears where they had a badass defense led by a prime Khalil Mack. Yeah, Fangio has had decent defenses, but Mack really made him look better than he was. I really like the Weaver signing. Baltimore has always had a stout defense it seems. Weaver coming over here is going to be a good thing. I'm relieved we didn't go after Staley. Weaver is a former player, the guys are going to respect him, they're going to buy in to what he wants to do. He's going to be very hands on I imagine. He's going to bring a lot of energy to the defense. Now, we are potentially looking at a personnel issue this upcoming season. Neither Phillips nor Chubb should be counted on to start the season and that's a huge hit. We may also not be able to retain Wilkins or AVG. Jerome Baker looks like a goner as well. Ramsey and Holland will be the backbone of the defense. I do expect a jump from Cam Smith this season despite not getting any playing time last year. We're going to have to hit on a few draft picks that are hungry to make it in this league. I think we should keep David Long and Brandon Seiler as well. Not sure who all is under contract for our team on that side of the ball, but I expect a lot of new faces once the 24-25 season kicks off.
It was a combination of his reluctance to take this job in the first place, he was obviously waiting for things to fall apart in Philadelphia, and a his way or the highway coaching style. Not only with players but with other staff as well.
There were quite a few games last season where Kohou was covering “X” receiver and I couldn’t understand why Ramsey wasn’t matched up on said receiver. I heard Fangio really liked Kohou ergo I had faith in his judgment but seeing how some things are coming to light since his departure, it makes me question whether or not he was letting his personal feelings cloud his judgement.
