does not trying mean they can't? or just coach decided not to do it, seems insane an NFL team cannot get 1 or 2 yards 99% of the time.
They did play three top 10 defenses, two of which were on the road in harsh environments. That can be attributed.
Too many reasons to list. Injuries affecting consistency and game planning. Regression by Tua. In game adjustments. Sometimes it's simply bad luck like drops or missed assignments. Level of competition. Any combination of these factors resulted in reduced scoring opportunities. A lot of things go wrong when you constantly struggle to score points after strong starts. Namely vs the Ravens and Bills. As a coaching staff this is something which will need to be addressed in the off-season.
If you think the 31st ranked line in the nfl, injury depleted at that, wasnt a huge issue, i do not know what to tell you
I am not the one that said the offense was not an issue, you did. "And I'm not negative about 2024 at least when it comes to the offense. The skill pieces and coach are there to allow us to score points."
Link to the post where i said that. Wasnt me. every time tua checks a box, the pro tua people acknowledge he still has work to do. the anti tua people still call him a small armed injury prone bust who shouldnt be in the nfl. Its wuite mystifying. Theyre INCAPABLE of acknowledging anything positive about him. Ive never seen vitriol like it. Just acknowledging he’s improving is impossible to folks on here. It’s genuinely mystifying
I thought Grier said Oline is fine and he's not worried about it. The stats guys said we can win without a good oline.
I've always said Tua is good, he is just not great and we'll never win a SB with him. It's Tannehill 2.0 condemning us to mediocrity for another 2-3 years before we have to rebuild again.
Nah, Tua is better then Tannehill. It’s more comparable to Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith and maybe Garapolo. So I‘m not sure what to do exactly, because we don’t know if Tua hit his peak and who are you going to replace him with? There is no Stafford available. I‘d give Tua at least next season, but Grier should definitely be on the hot seat.
Tua is like the complete opposite of Tannehill, in most regards. What kept me invested in Tannehill was his size/strength/durability. I'm pretty much done making excuses or arguing for flawed QBs.
This is spot on, especially the bit about becoming the Cowboys. That's basically the ceiling: https://www.si.com/nfl/dolphins/news/miami-dolphins-should-keep-options-open-at-quarterback
We don’t know if he can get better and improves. The way it looks now, we probably have to look for a QB in the near future. So you can either keep Tua and look for a QB in future drafts or you tear it all down now. I would try it the 49ers/Chiefs way and not do another tank job. Let’s see what happens next season, we would still have both options then and if it blows up in our faces, we got all the reasons to do another tank job and then hopefully without Grier.
I'm not saying they are the same type of QB, they have different strength and weaknesses, but overall they are both in that good but not good enough to win a superbowl category which has plagued us.
Yeah, they are very different, if you could somehow marry Tua's strengths with Tannehill's strengths, we'd have a great QB. But overall their strengths and weaknesses average out to the same good but not great QB level. We went and drafted Tannehill's complete opposite but ignored his flaws which puts us right back where we started.
Interesting that today i heard that Tua averages were down this year on everything over last year. Waiting for the article to come out.
I was totally against Tannehill, but every once in a while he would have a game that would make you hoping. Kinda like the pretty girl that returns your text only when she has nothing else to do..... there is hope
Tua came in #1 last year. Pretty hard to repeat that. So sure he's down from last year but he still ended up #5 in passer rating, with a 101.1 rating when league average was 89.0. That's still in the "elite" category.
Jay Fiedler had a great winning % here too, when he left he went no where and did nothing. The team carried him.
I'm still trying to figure it out. When Tua was winning games with a below average roster and average stats, stats were huge. Now when Tua was winning with an above average roster, stats didn't matter.
Every thread on here becomes TUA IS THE GUY / TUA SUCKS. Its so ****ing tired. Even when i opened this thread saying lets not make it one of these threads FFS. all i know is this: once the team started investing in him, we saw exponential growth from him and more wins. Thats it. Im riding with him. Argue with a wall.
If Tua would‘ve played on those Fiedler teams, we actually might have had a chance to win it all, that’s the difference.
Man, those were fun days with that defense, not so much the offense. And talk about hitting home runs in the draft, Taylor in the 3rd, Surtain in the 2nd and Thomas in what, 4th or 5th? That seems to be the main difference between the best teams in the NFl and everyone else, they hit on so many mid/late round picks.
There do seem to be certain teams that consistently find gems in rounds 2-5. The first round gets all the juice (it gets it’s own day on ESPN), and it is important to hit on those high first rounders, but teams are made in the middle of the draft.
Injuries derailed what could have been a solid finish to 2023 imo. For me that was the #1 factor. They were able to score on both the ravens and bills then all of a sudden the offense disappeared. Figuring out why is on the coaches.
We can. Miami won 11 games with backups playing 47% of the snaps on the OL. The next highest playoff teams was in the 20's and the great and might Buffalo Bills that you hold up as the right way to rebuild were at 4%. How many more games do you think Miami wins if they only have 4% of offensives snaps on the season taken by backups? They just couldn't beat other playoff teams who were much healthier.
I’m gonna wait to see how Tua approaches his strength and conditioning and whether he acknowledges that he let himself go as the season progressed. He got busted if he doesn’t do those things and show tremendous work ethic to change and then we sign him we are fundamentally flawed as an organization Grier, our coach and staff need to address the fact that their Qb lost any mobility because they wanted to protect him from injury.. It’s all a flawed process
I‘m pretty sure we’re going to run it back next season with Tua and I can understand why and it’s probably the right thing to do. Just going a little crazy here, what if we were able to trade Tua to Atlanta for their 8th pick in this years draft (+maybe some change?) and select Michael Penix Jr.? He looks a little bit like a bigger Tua. Just food for thought and it ain’t going to happen, but I really like the potential of the player.
Should Conner Williams be a priority? He was Pro Football Focus’ highest-rated center in 2023 and the best run-blocking center. There was a noticeable difference when he was not on the field after his injury. In the eight full games he played, Miami averaged 161 rushing yards per contest. When Williams was out of the lineup, that total was just 111 yards. He would be another "injured" player that they sign but there's a clear difference when he's in the lineup. And we need O Lineman.
The risk with Penix is his injury history - he had two season ending ACL tears, plus shoulder injuries that ended seasons at Indiana. He never ran at Washington, I’m guessing in order to keep him healthy, so he wouldn’t open up any possibilities with his mobility.
