Always wanted to take a vacation to Wyoming/Montana - beautiful scenery there. What are winters like?
They can be brutal. Last year about mid-December, we had a cold-snap that went down to -31 and stayed in negative temps for over a week. Also some high winds in winter. But where we live, we don't get a huge amount of snow. I mean, it snows--it snowed all Thanksgiving Day--but it was just a couple inches. That's about all we get even in the worst storms, 4-6 inches. So it's manageable and if you dress right for the cold, it's not bad. Really beautiful in winter, though.
Went to Stugis in August 2012. I was surprised how chilly it was in the mornings but the day we rode out to Devil's Tower was AMAZING!!!! You're living in some pretty country!
Lots of hawks and eagles around here. Deer, too. Down the road towards Cody, there's plenty of pronghorn antelope and farther towards Yellowstone, there are bighorn sheep in the winter.
I haven't seen one outside Yellowstone, but there've been tracks in the winter within a few miles of my house. And of course, I've seen plenty inside the park.
I’ve never seen one “in the wild”, but was a few feet from two (through a fence) at a small zoo in Maine once. Beautiful creatures, and their eyes, when they look at you, are mesmerizing.
I was out your way a couple of years ago for the eclipse in Jackson Hole. GF had never been to Yellowstone so, we made a trip of it. That may have been before you moved out there. We're trying to squeeze in a few more eclipses over the next few years so, we're going to Durango Mexico in April.
