The PhinFan is up-ended with this game. The Chargers were the one team that, for the most part, were able to stifle this offence with a healthy Tua last season. This year Tua, Tyreek and all embarrass them. But if we could say one thing about the Dolphins defense last season is that they could stop the run. 200+ running yards against a team that was pretty bad running the ball last season. That's a concern. Hopefully it's an aberration. Because this D-Line is supposedly it's strength. McCourkle isn't Justin Herbert, but the Patriot Defense will be reason for Tua and Co. next week.
Helped that they weren't making Hill run cross field when in motion this year, it was a lot of short moves to not give the defence time to swap. Also as some called this Tua's best game, are we placing yesterday above Baltimore last year?
The degree of difficulty on some of his throws were better. That last drive had to God-Tier level throws to Tyreek. They were all high-leverage downs.
I think the Baltimore game last year was Tua going supernova for a half and showing the pinnacle of what he could become in short bursts. Yesterday I liked the consistency more overall. It wasn't just the team getting hot and managing to sneak a win. It was a team executing the gameplan over all four quarters and proving they can trade blow for blow. Next up is Tua proving he can do it over multiple games. If Tua and Williams can sort out the snap problem and Tua can eliminate some of those weird decisions he makes sometimes, then this team will be straight up nasty when they have the ball.
Something I hadn't really thought about until earlier, Fangio tends to run the sort of defences that the team struggled with in the back half of last season. Now I know we talked a lot this pre-season about steel strengthening steel and that having a great defence would help to improve the offense but what if it's simpler than that? What if McDaniel's decided to go for Fangio purely because of the fact that he'd build a defence that could slow the O down in training? Just throw as many talented players as you can on the defensive side of the ball and then give them a style that stifles you. What killed the D yesterday? Running up the gut. What does our team rarely do? Run it up the gut. I know it's not a fully fleshed out thought but just something that came to mind when watching back the game.
He's a consummate team player. I get the impression he loves playing the game and loves his teammates.
I was a bit disappointed in the defense but I’m trying to be pragmatic. New offensive scheme, virtually none of the starters played preseason…it’s all been academic until they all got on the field…so yesterday was their 1st at bat. Hopefully next week we see improvement.
I would say this was a bette I would say this was better for an entire four quarters. The Baltimore game last year had better stats overall but we all know the bulk of those numbers came in the fourth quarter.
Two things we need to look at before the deadline.. run blocking linebacker.. and some more depth at the offensive line.. not sure how it gets done, but we need to solve both of these issues soon if we want to make a real run at the playoffs again.. also… if sanders is going to have another season of crucial missed kicks.. we need to move on after this season.. enough of that. Overall the offense, Tua, Hill, Berrios were the the game MVP’s.. those three IMO made the most crucial plays of the game.. I like that we saw Wilkins come alive on some needed stops as well..
Better than a chunk play, because of over committed defedners, that brought them another First Down away from FG range. The Clock was the Chargers enemy here. If there's any play you probably should play it safe, it's a 3rd and 30. Happily it's a moot point.
yeah, but there were some really stupid decisions by the Eagles coaches. They did their best to give the Patriots a chance.
I was let down by X's performance in particular. Last year, he was toasted by the Chargers and it was blamed on his health. Yesterday, he was targeted and came up small in big moments.
Unless Unless he agrees to massive pay cut I don't see Howard being here past this season. Cam Smith was drafted to be his replacement and we're going to need to pay Tua. Howard gone will give us some much needed cap space. I hope he gets his ring before he parts ways as he will have been one of the few that made it through a long rebuild. He weathered the storm when everyone else jumped ship.
Penalties were the problem but he didn't have anywhere near as bad of a day as people made it out to be. Not an encouraging day though.
Yeah, some of those Berrios catches were extremely high degree of difficulty. Can’t be understated how important those were. I liked what I saw from him.
Tua had a bad first half against Baltimore, a decent 3rd quarter, and a great 4th quarter. He was not great throughout 4 quarters like he was yesterday. So yes, yesterday was the best game of his career.
I think as time passes the Ravens game will be more impressive. Right now, yesterday's game was great because Tua was consistently overcoming deficits and playing like an elite QB throughout the entire game. But there's a very good chance we're going to see this over and over again. That didn't look like a fluke yesterday. However.. that Ravens game is something that even the greatest QBs will struggle with no matter their surrounding cast. As time passes that one 4th quarter of the Ravens game will probably lead that game to be highlighted as more evident of what Tua is capable of than something much more common (throughout the league) like yesterday.
I think yesterday will remain impressive even if Tua's consistency improves this year. He went for the 5th most yards in a game in Dolphins history behind that Ravens game from last year and then obvious a hat trick of Marino games. Even if Tua and this offense performs well this year, I would imagine it's unlikely that Tua ends up throwing for almost 8000 yards this season. I mean it would break Marino's record by almost 3000 yards.
Unpopular opinion. IMO, the Bears game and the Lions game were Tua's best games. In both of those games, he was perfect.
To be honest this was a drunk comment. It's only week 1 and will a while to get this Def up to speed!
