I believe he said that he has not received an offer from the Dolphins

Barry Jackson among others have contradicted that statement by Cook and said he did he just doesn't like it and doesn't consider it a serious offer.

Well, it might end up being his only offer, so he might want to reconsider….

I'm sure the Jets also made him an offer since they were basically begging for him to visit and its been reported that the Vikings offer to resign him for $7 million. Teams are interested, just not at the price he thought he'd command.

Its odd that we are playing such hard ball with him as it was also reported that we made a trade offer for him before he was released. What did Grier think he was going to do with the salary on that old contract?

They made an offer early in the offseason and reportedly the same with Barkley which probably means before they signed anyone else and drafted Archane.

I think I'd trust what Cook said
It makes sense. Grier tested the water to see what the price would be. They decided to draft the RB and move on.

Unless there’s an injury to a starter in training camp, or Jacobs and/or Taylor hold out, he’s going to have to re-evaluate his contract expectations.

Cook had better hurry up his decision; the rumor mill now has Miami trading a couple of picks to the Colts for Taylor, who the nitwit Irsay has inexplicably alienated.

For the record, I don’t believe this for a minute (for various reasons), but it’s a slow news day, I guess.

Taylor really has no leverage, and compounding his problem is the fact that he failed his physical and is on the PUP list. He’s probably going to be forced to play in Indy this year, but it’s doubtful past that point.

At the moment, next year's free agent class at RB has the potential to be awesome. Too bad we won't have any cap room.

He's saying he didn't fail the physical, its one reason he wants out but I don't think he has much leverage and really don't understand his thought process as the RB market is clearly poor right now.

It seems as though he’s peeved at how he’s being treated by the team lately, especially in the media. Irsay hasn’t helped matters, either.

Won't matter when Achane has run for 90 TDs and 4000 yards this year.

My expectations for him, this season and beyond, aren't high. I'm pretty sad that we drafted him, because of the potential to block other additions.

Block other additions? No draft pick should block other additions. The Vikings having Cook didn't block them from adding Mattison. In a position where the life span of the position seems to be about 5 years at this point, it almost feels irresponsible if you're not constantly adding fresh legs to the depth chart. I think most people would be happy if we took Taylor off of the Colt's hands and yet he's only played every game in a season once in his three year career.

Gotta disagree with you here. Achane was not drafted to be THIS year’s running back. Unless he shows some miraculous performance garnering him to take that starting spot, I think you’re going to see him in a more premier role next season.

The draft is always a fickle thing. Some teams are drafting for players to make an immediate impact. Some teams are drafting to fill a spot they know is going to be void next season.

I think the latter applies to Achane. I don’t see us holding onto Moestert and/or Wilson next season and that’s going to be Achane’s turn to step up.

I just don't believe in him as the answer, whether that's this season or four years from now. Maybe he's a useful contributor in time, but I think that we need a real RB to carry the load.

Well you all know how much I beat the drum for the running game, but the Derrick Henrys, Jerome Bettises and even Ricky Williamses don’t grow on trees. The game has sadly evolved, even down the collegiate level that running backs aren’t bred like they once were.

I’d give anything to have a PREMIER 3 down running back who could carry the ball 25 times per game and average 5 yards a carry but they are so few and far in between. And when you do find one, like a Dalvin Cook, they’re holding out for bigger contracts.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all about players trying to make the most money that they can, but when a player looks more at the dollar amount and less about the team, that’s a selfish characteristic that makes me question whether or not he’s really going to put it all on the line when it’s needed or counts the most.

I remember the days when NFL players actually had to get jobs in the offseason. In those days, the game wasn’t about the almighty dollar…it was about individual players wanting to prove on the field they were the best. Sadly, free agency killed that. It’s all become about individualism and less about the team.

Dalvin Cook was an intriguing possibility but I don’t see him being selfless and taking a $6-$7 million deal to play where he says he wants to play. He’s going to hold out for money. So be it. If you’re not selfless enough to take a deal that would put you on the team you want to play for, then I don’t want you.

But back to the running back subject, I do think Achane, in McDaniel’s scheme could actually excel and be that running back but as I said as well, the league doesn’t have the premier 3 down back anymore.

It just doesn’t fit with the pass happy game that everyone seeks today.

You aren't wrong that things have changed, but its not a total switch. Just last season, nine running backs averaged 15+ carries a game while four of them carried the ball 295 times or more. And eight backs, including Cook, touched the ball 300+ times on the season. So for a quarter of the league, things were still pretty close to what they were in the late 90s to present. 17 different RBs averaged 15+ touches a game, and a few more would have hit that mark if they were healthy.

But I don't see Achane ever holding up to even the 15 touch workload. I think at best he'll be like what Mostert was before last year, at about 7 or 8 per game.

Agree with the team comment. Coach loves these high character talented running backs. Don't need to throw a wrench into that mix that Cook might be.

Thats what you say when the money is right.. i havent followed our cap situation but i dont think we offered him anywhere close to what the jets did.. jets are going all in this season.. and they will likely fall flat on their face

Well, if Fangio's defense is what we're all expecting it to be, Cook's going to be served up a nice slice of humble pie.

I like Fangio, but I worry. Cook and Hall could run over us for 200 yards twice this season. Its happened to us so many times over the years, especially late, and we play them twice from late November on.

Pass the ball and stop the pass is how you win in this league. The Jets offensive line is even more suspect than the Dolphins. Rodgers is already complaining about his tackles.

I'm content with the Dolphins RB room as is. It's not a focal point in this offense.

I can't wait for the reactions from that fanbase when this attempt to stack the roster with has been superstars to chase a SB ends up in complete failure. Congrats though, they won the offseason apparently.

What worries me more than anything is that if our offensive line struggles and two, it gets hurt at all our season is over with the competition in the division. We cannot afford any mistakes or key injuries and expect to win our division.

I feel that Grier hasn’t done enough to ensure we have depth at key positions, and any injury could see us at the bottom of the AFC

A few of their depth pieces are starting to look pretty decent. Lamm is a fine player. Robert Jones is looking to be a pretty decent player. Wynn might be a backup or a starter.

Against the Falcons, two players really stood out, and will be interesting to see if they continue to develop Kion Smith and Ryan Hayes.

I do not think the linemen depth is that bad at this moment. Almost all of the duds in the last game are players that will most likely be cut.
