This is a public service announcement:
Please don't reply unless you have viewed the whole video.

Mercury spoke the truth. If the Pats can finish out this season, and not choke, they have earned the right to stand next to the '72 Dolphins.

Anyone in the media trying to blow up his comments into more than that is simply reaching for a story.

The '72 Dolphins proved that it was possible. Any team that follows down the trail they blazed is simpling following. Period. 35 years later, if the Patriots can pull it off, they deserve the respect they will receive.

As a Dolphin fan, and an absolute Patriot hater, I hope they do choke. Rodney Harrison, a cheating coach, smug bastardizer of a Qb, and former marginal Dolphins don't deserve a place in NFL immortality.

Haha, that was great! The man speaks the truth, and in a way he was sticking up for all the great teams of the past. Good on him for challenging the media and making them look stupid.

Mercury is absolutely right on. Completely different eras and completely different styles of play under MANY different rules. It's ridiculous to compare teams from different eras. There is no way you can do it. Way too many variables to include.

And man, wouldn't it be monumental to see the Pats flop in the playoffs? The biggest flop in history? I'd love to see the Patsies and their king Brady have to wear that on their backs.

Bingo!! The '72 Dolphins would have been able to smash Tom Brady in the mouth. And we all know how well he plays when he's just roughed up a bit.

PREACH it Merc. That was great.

Not only is it ridiculous to compare teams from different eras, but the Patsies haven't even done anything yet. They still have two more tough playoff games and a superbowl game. But the media is already to crown them the greatest team in the history of the nfl.

By the way, I got the Pats losing to the Jags. You heard it here.

i agree with Kudda, i think the Jags can beat the Patriots.

i think the Steelers can too, they sucked earlier this year, but the Steelers CAN come back. and of course, the Colts. The Patriots are gonna have an interesting playoff, because their gonna play either the Steelers or Jags, then Colts. then perhaps the Cowboys or Packers in the super bowl.

Superb. Mercury should be giving the team pre-match talk. Great the way he spoke and was spot on. Parcells should keep his big mouth shut. Parcells "Frankie 5 angels" haha.Basically he said Parcells should zip it. Morris even had a pop at ESPN for making out the Pats were the 2nd coming. Great stuff.

all i know is that Rex Ryan deserves to be burned at the stake. If not for him, the Pats finish 15-1. That is why Miami was allowed to beat the Ravens. Karma has a funny way of evening things up. Rex cost us our claim to glory, so we beat the Ravens, and now their coaching staff is being ripped to shreds.

    Let reality intrude

Who really believes this? Put down that stuff you got in Amsterdam. This is like the fans that try to argue that Kuechenberg should be in the Hall of Fame when there are at least four other offensive linemen from the same era with as many, or more All-Pro and Pro Bowl nods, a few, like George Kunz and Russ Washington, who played their whole careers at the more difficult tackle positions, who aren't in the Hall either. The Patriots would have annihilated the 1972 Dolphins. The 72 Dolphins didn't play a single playoff team during the regular-season, they only played one team with a winning record during their regular-season run. They played 14-games not 16. The Patriots have played six playoff teams already, half of the NFC field, and beat all playoff-bound teams by a combined 110-points! The Dolphins played in an era before the salary cap and free agency, when a handful of organizations dominated the game for years--Steelers, Raiders, Dolphins and Cowboys--because of superior front offices and coaching. The Patriots live in an era of parity, where a team goes from 4-12 one season to Super Bowl champs the next. Where staff and front office turnover is constant. What the Patriots have done is absolutely incredible. Morris is correct in pointing out the futility of comparing teams from different eras, but for the wrong reasons. The worst teams today would kill the greatest of just 20-years ago simply on account of athleticism and size. The 1984 Dolphins would have shredded the 72 team. Look at the quantum leap from a guy like Jim Langer to Dwight Stephenson, and Stephenson came into the league while Langer was still playing. Players are too big, too strong, too fast, and just too skilled, even in an era of sloppy fundamentals. The mental component of the game is much greater, it's wise of Mercury to not make direct comparisons between the Fins of yesterday, and the Pats of today.

I loved it! To bad we didn't have all the press etc. back then. IMO Morris and all the '72 players and coaches have all the right in the world to their opinions, and be able to speak about them. Why shouldn't they? Some of the players on ne are always talking, but not saying much, imo. Also, comparing the teams is ludicrous.
