If Pennington Struggles vs Pats could Henne start after the Bye?

Will Penny struggle? Or more importantly just not be good enough? I too am worried about Henne's state of mind and don't want to see him used like John was last year. Thrown to the wolves just to placate an angry fan base that wants to win a game no matter the cost and then when it doesn't work out to their satisfaction Henne gets pulled to be hung out to dry. I'm not a Henne guy but I am a Dolphins Guy and if Henne is to be our QB then for heavens sake lets at least give him a proper chance for success no matter how he plays this year. I'm speaking to the Dolphins FO and coaching staff also. You can't start him and then just pull him because you might look bad for a few games. The guy's gotta KNOW that the staff has his back, Win, lose, or draw.

Do you want Henne to be "The Guy" or not? If so then you shouldn't give up on him because he fumbles, throws INTs, or makes other rookie mistakes because he will; they all do.

Might be too early right now. Maybe after a win. Don't want to throw him in while we're still an 0-fer But if we win a game and the season's lost? No pressure.

Cutler was thrown in game 11? And look at him now. He wasn't too shabby his second year either. Show of hands, who wouldn't want 64%, 18TD 13 INT, 3,500 yds and 88.1 rating?

    I do! I do!
    I vant von too!

Mike handled Jay Cutler really good. If I remember correctly Mike said that Cutler was his guy and would start sometime during that first year. Cutler rewarded that trust with 9tds, 5 ints, and 5 fumbles starting in those last 5 games in '06. Not bad at all for a rookie and they won two of the 5 while also being in the other three. Forgot to get the sack count but I know that Denver had a fairly good team around Jay Cutler, which helps, both the team and Cutler. If it wasn't for the fact that this is everybody's rookie year here it would be a great way to handle Henne also.

I agree, I thought Mike did a good job with Cutler. The best thing he does for Cutler is build the offense around Cutlers strengths. He has a lot of rollouts and Cutler is required to only see one half of the field on his plays. Hopefully we do the same here with Henne. Btw, man I wish I had Cutler!

In my opinion this is a terrible move. We need to give our Oline more time to get together and step their game up, our WRs more time to develop and chad henne himself more time to get familiar with the personnel and the system before we fling him into the starter role and expect him to resurrect this team. You have to be very careful with a rookie QB. No one knows this better than Parcells. Giving Henne play time in blowout game is good because he wont have all the pressure on his shoulders. But putting him in there as the starter and expecting him to do it all as a rookie is crazy. Yes, there have been QBs to do it, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Troy Aikman, Joe Montana, just to name a few. THere have also been many who started as a rookie and failed, examples include Tim Couch, Akili Smith Ryan Leaf and Alex Smith. The difference is that Couch, Smith, Leaf and Smith went to really bad teams where they were expected to be the savior and they burned out. We can't let this happen to Henne. We need to follow a similar model that was set forth with Phillip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Steve Young, etc by letting Henne sit behind a veteran QB for a year, maybe 2, and then bring him in once he's has time to observe pennington running this offense and had time to absorb all the knowledge he needs and get familiar with his players. Otherwise I'm afraid Henne gets in there, fails, fans call for his head, he get yanked and this never-ending carousel of quarterbacks continues in Miami for another decade.

You make it sound like winning that one game wasn't important. Well it was. It was extremely important. If a team goes 0-16 it will never wash that stench off. And it's even more important for the Dolphins. If the Dolphins were to go 0-16 it would turn our proudest moment, our perfect season, into the punch line of a joke or a laughable point of sports trivia. If there's one thing I give Cam credit for, it's for making sure we won a game. You can make a very strong case that he should never have started John Beck to begin with, but pulling him when it became obvious that he didn't have the skills to win us a game was the right decision.

But once again, I agree with your point. We can't put a young quarterback in there and give him the hook if he struggles. Once we make that move, we need to let him ride out the season come hell or high water. That's why I think it's extremely important that we win one game before Henne becomes the starter. That way he won't have the pressure of needing to get that first win for us.

Let's hope we don't end up in a situation like we did last year. With every week's loss mounting pressure for us to avoid 0-16, making it harder and harder to win a game. Last season took years off my life. I can only imagine what it's like on the players.

With all due respect you are wrong about Joe, Bill scripted Joe's playing time that first year. He played in 4 games, never starting, which were desided on at the beginning of the season. Bill Walsh stuck to his guns (only winning 3 games) about Joe and the payoff was that Joe and Bill won Super Bowls (Plural). Not OT but in my mind next to Don Shula, Bill Walsh was the greatest HC ever.

Penny is the guy who should continue playing. He is the better Quarterback,no argument there.I'm all for Henne,I think he will be a very good QB in the future, but he also needs to sit and learn a bit more.
Really Dolphin fans, how many times since 99' have we been wanting the "other" quarterback in the game when the starter was the best option?
We've been through this before, when that other QB did take over.He sucked it up bad, right?Come on..you booed him too. We need to give this team time.In the meantime Penny needs to be the starter.

I wouldnt, tho Henne's demeanor diminishes the risk somewhat. I understand teh sink or swim mentality, however Peyton and Marino and that ilk are the exceptions not the rule. Henne has as much to lose as he has to gain putting that pressure on him.

I would rather see the OL have more game experience together as a unit and the running game start to work before we throw Henne in, but I sure liked what I saw in AZ. If it isn't going to hurt his development, then I'm all for getting Henne in sooner than later.

Not really sure how I feel about this one. I would love to see him during a real game to gauge him but I have some concerns that his confidence could be destroyed if he does not get the help and protection that he needs.

I'm not really sure it would shake him, confidence wise. We are talking about a QB that got beat by Appalachian State in College only to come back to beat Florida in a bowl game.

I think we can put this QB "controversy" to rest for at least two weeks now. Chad looked outstanding out there today. Obviously it's a little overshadowed by what Ronnie accomplished but it was an excellent performance.

I think Pennington has looked good all year and it was the defense killing the team. Remember Pennington almost led the Fins to a win in week 1 vs the Jets.
