Agreed. Why they haven't made a 3rd one for the 360 yet is just beyond me. And I'm not talking about that MMO. Think precursor to Mass Effect.
Since KOTOR was made by bioware, I have no idea why they didn't do KOTOR 2. However KOTOR 2 was practically unplayable due to glitches and bugs. Not to mention not getting a lightsaber after 1/2 game. I think KOTOR 2 killed a sequel. The Force unleashed was said to be KOTOR 3 but it turned out not so. It's a shame that a GOTY title has been trashed for all these ****ty SW games. Just played the demo. It was... underwhelming? Not exactly what I thought or hoped. Still fun, but less grand. However more levels + powers/abilities + storyline can easily push this game over the top. I'm trying to keep perspective that this is just a demo.
If you have an xbox or 360, buy or rent Kotor. The game is fantastic, can be argued as the greatest RPG ever.
From what i heard, bioware wanted to go ahead and work on a game in a world of their own. Which is why Mass Effect was made instead of a new kotor game.
It was definitely full of bugs mainly because Obsidian had problems adapting Bioware's engine. Bioware didn't get the nod supposedly because they wanted too much money. When I heard Bioware was going to do another one, I nearly **** my pants. But then I heard it was an MMO. It certainly wasn't as great as the first because it was a half-finished game. People have found cut dialogue and placemarkers for a lot of extra cutscenes and missions that hadn't been removed from the program code on the PC version.
It was, and i cannot wait till part 2 comes out but i still would have much rather have gotten a new kotor game from Bioware.
Now that EA has gobled up Bioware, I expect nothing more than over-rushed trsh from them. Poor Mass Effect. Well, we still have Fallout!
Actually, don't worry about that as far as I know. I got a friend who is a concept artist for them and he said EA has done no rushing. They have kept thier nose out of Biowares work. He also told me they have improved the combat and shooting. From what my friend says should definitely be a improvement over the first. The inside details I do know it sounds like EA isn't messing with them at all as far as production goes. http://www.artbymikko.com/ thats his art portfolio for anyone that may not believe me
They gave Maxis pretty good control after they bought em and they still managed to churn out good games. If they do the same for Bioware, I think it'll be fine.
Good to hear. I remember reading that EAs plan was to be more hands off with them because of their previous good reputation. Also nice to hear they are beefing up the combat system. But hell, all I really want for 2 is a freaking elevator that DOESNT take like 30 minutes to get where it needs to be.
Leaked today (while i was here at work). Called my lil bro and had him d/l it for me. I have a new game to play tonight.
Better yet, let us know if it is worth it to buy, or if it is a rental. I'm sure everyone in this thread is a Star Wars geek like me and will play it no matter how bad/good it is, but its always nice to know what you're buying!
Even if Mor calls it a waste of a plastic box, paper, and blank disc (unlikely), I'd probably still buy it because it's Star Wars.
I got the demo last week, plowed through it and LOVED it. I'll wait a little while and pick it up when it gets to the used section.
Best action game I've played since God of War 2. I've been playing the crap out of this all weekend, and I'm pretty sure I'm at the end. Kinda sad, I didn't want it to be over. One thing should be clear. YES, I am a huge Starwars fan. I think the game is great regardless, but it should be known that my opinion is a tad biased being that it's Starwars. Level design is what gets the win for me. You're constantly put in awesome settings and great scenarios. It never seems to feel tacked on... or like it's forcing you to have to be in something over the top cool. Very fluid and very cool force mechanics. Some of my favorite parts: These aren't big spoilers... Spoiler Not that big of a spoiler, but in the first level you're Vader. Very cool. Force choke is great. Getting a good feel for the Force powers is cool. Spoiler The fist Jedi you fight (as the apprentice) has you in a crashing starship. Very cool. ok, this one is major spoilage... Spoiler I'm st the end where Vader tries to kill me. You find out that he never intended to keep you as an apprentice, you were being used. So you face off with Vader. After you beat him, you have to choose to fight Vader and become the apprentice of Sidious, or attack Sidious and do something... I dunno which path to take yet... Damn.
Anyone wanna do me a favor? I can't look at Gametrailers.com from work. My RSS feed just showed me that they reviewed Force Unleashed.... GT has quickly become one of my most trusted review sources. Anyone wanna watch the review for me and tell me how it scored?
How could they not like it? Wow... Nothing's more fun than running around force throwing people left and right.
I liked it even though I wasn't a fan of the targeting. Thank Gamestop for hiring shady managers who give out early copies to friends. Spoiler Lol, I think there were multiple points where Vader tries to kill you but yea, that dark side-light side choice is a nice reminiscence of KOTOR. You're talking about the Death Star one right? I chose to attack Sidious since that's the one which is canon. Love the cutscenes though.
Cutscenes were excellent. I didn't like the targeting system... I actually found it easier never to lock on
Well, just beat it with both endings. Managed to get a free Force Unleashed T-Shirt at Best Buy though without having to purchase it again.
I saw the ending where: Spoiler I went after the emperor. I ended up dead. Can you tell me what happens in the other? Don't forget to use spoiler tags please... HTML:
YOUR SPOILER HERE
Well I bought it yesterday and can't play my copy for some reason when I load it, it goes black screen. Took it back got another copy, and it did the same thing. Funny thing is all my other games work just fine, guess I will have to call lucas arts. Wish I knew someone around here that had a 360 I could test it on.
Hey now, I always use spoiler tags. Spoiler So you (Galen) kill Vader, then Palpatine's all happy and praising you for killing a weakened Sith. All the Rebels die and you become his second in command but then you're all torn up so you look like you're all cold inside.
Spoiler Galen Marek's the canonical name. I actually just found this: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNIU-9X5Eso]YouTube - Star Wars:The Force Unleashed - Cutscene (Dark Side Ending)[/ame]
i picked it up for the PS3, theres no significant difference is there between the ps3 and 360 versions right?
The 360 version is averaging .6 better review scores industry wide... That probably amounts to nothing. I haven't read any of either's reviews. 360 - Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Reviews (71.1) PS3 - Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Reviews (70.5)
i realize the topics have moved on. but i'm going back because i just found this thread. so is the game more of a prince of persia feel as opposed to a KOTOR feel? i really enjoyed both kotor games and mass effect (though i definitely have my grumblings about mass effect. notably that they added so much 'material' to the game with the extraneous planetary missions, but all the buildings were replica's of each other and all the missions were nearly identical.. which was annoying) ANYWAY, this thread is about star wars. yea, i'm definitely more into the choice-style games like kotor and oblivion, but i could probably get into this type of game too. i'm definitely a star wars gamer nut, i'll still go back and regularly play Rebellion for the PC, along with Shadows of the Empire for n64 and some others, not to mention the kotor's. i actually am playing through kotor 2 right now and i'm still finding things i never knew existed in the game, thats what i love about these open ended type games, so many hidden things. OH, and i am pissed the F off that if they make this new KOTOR game its gonna be an MMO. just stick with what you have people. it doesn't have to be warcraft.
Well got the game working so far, and played a little. I like it so far and the story is pretty good. Looking forward to play it a little longer.
