I mean, we've been arguing that point since Tannehill? It's really weird the flip in sides. Lol

Everybody is aware of it. It's probably universally accepted. Yet, it's ignored when it comes to making a point. Folks in media and elsewhere have already flipped from "Tua's not a winner" to "Who couldn't win with those guys catching the ball?" as if he should be able to grab 10 scrubs off the bench from Little Sisters Of The Poor Middle School and be an effective QB.

As long as it's not an elimination game, Tua is a winner.

A criticism that would work a lot better if they didn't play 8 of those in row last year

When your team goes 1-7, every game is an elimination game.

I wonder if the NFL best 11 points per game defense during the 7 game win streak had anything to do with that. Naaaa.

Huh. The Titans D and running game was world-beating about the time T-Hill became "great" all of a sudden. Now, both have fallen off and he's 0-2.

Are you arguing it was Tua's skill as a QB that got Hill open on those two deep throws? Yes, having weapons makes ANY QB better.

It isn't necessarily a reflection of the QB's skills.

Nope. I'm arguing that had he played with better weapons previously, he would have performed better. Dolphins receivers had the least amount of separation and his line was woefully inadequate last season.

With that being said, I'd argue that there are plenty of posters on this thread who argued a year ago that he was incapable of making the throws he made on Sunday. That makes it seem that ****THREAD TITLE DROP**** Tua is not the problem.

How can you judge a QB's skills if he has bad WRs who are never open?

His argument that the 7-1 stretch shouldn't be credited to Tua due to the defense giving up a league-best 11 ppg would be fair if he acknowledged that Baltimore scored 21 points on a kickoff return, a crazy catch and run and a 77-yard scramble. It's a team game. But if you're giving the D credit for the second half of last season, who's responsible for the fourth quarter on Sunday? Instead of a last-second game-winning throw, we should have won that game in a blowout without those three plays.

Consider: Dude went 36/50 for 469 yards, 6 TD w/ 2 INTs. One of the picks was a miracle grab. He was named OPOW and we have people in his team's fan base complaining about him.

Like I said previously, Tua could leave the practice field to walk across a lake to save two nuns and a dozen orphans and when it's reported on the news, some of our fans would sneer and tweet "Tua can't swim". It's beyond my ability to understand at this point.

I judge a QB by his ability to make the throws when the conditions aren't ideal. I've said this I feel like a million times. The worst QB in the league is STILL an NFL QB. Put that guy in ideal conditions, he'll make most all the throws, most likely all the the throws. So yeah, wide open receivers are great for the offense, might be a result of the offense, they're great for the QB, they're great for the fan, they're great. I just don't judge the QB based on that. I think I've argued that due quite some time regarding Tua's time at Alabama.

Anyway, I was happy to see the 4th quarter. Now I have some hope again, but we've got to see more of that type of Tua the rest of the season for me to be a Tuanon.

A whole lot of hysteria in this post. Tua had a great game. The problem is that it's far and few in between. Tua very rarely carries the defense. The defense carries the offense 95% of the time, or they don't win. If you want to give credit for winning when the Dolphins held opposing teams to 11 points, that's cool. Just know any game manager could have done the same. That's the point. Until Tua CONSISTENTLY carries the team offensively there will be questions about him as the QB. That, and stays healthy a full year.

A QB can be evaluated independently, regardless of the team around him. There are many great QBs who were on bad teams, yet no one questioned whether they were great QBs. Marino in the late 80s for example, or Watson with the Texans, Herbert his first year in San Diego, etc...

I can't help but notice that exactly zero people that have been disagreeing with me liked or responded to my post shoot hour I judge a QB. Do you disagree with how I judge QBs? How do you judge QBs?

The totality of their play. Good play helps to avoid bad conditions for throws. That is an incredibly important part of the job. Hit the open guy on time. Slide away from pressure and keep the easy passing lanes clear. Make the correct reads. Recognize busted coverage and attack it. Really good QBs make it look easy. They make their teammates look like superstars. Take the hitch-nod that Waddle took for a huge play from the 3. Tua put the ball in a spot that the catch lead Waddle away from the safety. Set him up to have space to make a few moves and extend it 20 or more yards. The ball to Giesiki in the back of the endzone could not have been thrown better. Over three defenders and the perfect height and timing for Mike to go up and grab it. If a QB is making the correct reads on a good team with a good offense with good timing and accuracy... it looks so very easy. That's what I want. Easy points. QB play that I don't realize is amazing until an expert shows me why.

So so so... returning from my ban.. Tua deserve huge props for that win but being objective we cant crown him yet.

Make no mistake I'm proud of what Tua showed, I've been waiting for that spark to unleash him. And it did. I just dont want to count my eggs I need to see consistency now because that is everything in this game. Bills may be too good in the trenches which could lead to our demise. Our OL has been playing solid its up to them. Should be a shoot out in Miami.

We are the same brother. But Tua deserves credit for taking that next step. The final step is consistently stringing nice games together, and most of all balling in the 4th.

Your points are fair and well taken but as I stated in another thread, if the Bills are indeed THAT GOOD and they win, my concern is going to be all of the negative rancor rearing it’s head rather than conceding the greatness of the Bills.

The only way the rancor against Tagovailoa gets put away is for the Dolphins to win because if they don’t, hard critics of Tua are going to spew nonsense about him and his play regardless of the Dolphins actual performance.

Tua has the whole season to show if he's our franchise QB. That's true whatever happens today. If he plays well it gives you greater confidence he's the one, and if he doesn't then criticism is warranted. If Tua's really the guy he'll prove it. No need to worry. Same if he's not. I just hope we don't end up in a situation where we settle for average-ish for one reason or another. NEVER settle for average or slightly above average at the QB position.

Regardless, you're not going to hear from me Tua's clearly not franchise QB material if he plays bad today. He's got the entire season.

That's the second game Tua played well. Obviously not spectacularly well like that 4th quarter last game, but dude.. he's looking more and more like a franchise QB. Still a full season to play of course.

He made a bunch of good throws today. He played well enough for the team as a whole to beat the best team (previous to this game) in the NFL. As of right now he's good enough. But yes he's got to do this throughout the season. In fact there's really no excuse now for this team to not make a decent playoff run.

Tua's updated rating is 117.8 after 101 passes. That's 2/3 of the way to a minimum "reliable" rating. He would have to totally bomb the next 2 games to get down to where he was last year (90.1). Very likely this season will show a statistically significant difference in passing efficiency. We'll see by how much.
