16 completions for 140 yards right now, he's being lauded as Tom Brady right now by the broadcast.

If this was Tua it would be called "dinking and dunking".

Are you guys seriously trying to diminish his play right now? Like it or not the kid is damn good, and he's gonna whip us twice this year.

If Tua completed the touchdown passes that Allen completed with Davis and Diggs, half of Fins Nation would complain Yeah, but both passes were underthrown. He's no Josh Allen.

He under threw Diggs who was wide open by 10 yards, bailed him out with a great catch.

If that was Tua you would all be roasting him how he can't hit a wide open receiver deep without under throwing him.

Are you even watching the game? He threw that pass on the run and basically on one foot while jumping or whatever you want to call it. No wonder it was underthrown. Give me a break. What does this have to do with Tua? Didn't say a word about Tua. Not sure why you want to bring that up. If you think Josh Allen hasn't dominated this game tonight and isn't good, then I'm not sure what you're watching. I hate the kid, and I hate the Bills... but let's be realistic here.

A little first game rust was to be expected but, come on, almost 300 yards, 26 for 31 attempts for an 83.9 completion percentage, 112 QB rating against the reigning SB champs, on the road. Depressing. If Tua has one game like that this season we'd be ecstatic. In spite of all the euphoria, the outlook is rather bleak. Our only shot to make the play-offs is as a WC and only if we have no serious losses to injuries.

    EXACTLY.

If Tua had been dinking and dunking the team to 31-10 wins, then no one would ever be complaining about Tua.

Perhaps. I was really down on Tua coming out of season 1. Lost almost complete hope for him early in Season 2 when I watched him panic and force a terrible pass that was picked off, but had a surge of optimism for the second half of the season, only for Tua to have a terrible game with playoffs on the line. So, forgive me if in the totality of Tua/Miami sucking I forgot forgot about one good Tua game. How many 300 yard NFL games has Tua had?

Answer: 2. And both required 45+ passes. Allen "dinking and dunking" got 297 on 31 attempts.

I would like to note, there is a MASSIVE difference between dinking and dunking because that's what the defense is giving vs dinking and dunking because you lack the arm strength to threaten the field. The reason I'm entertaining positive hope for this season is because Tua seems to have improved his arm strength.

I CONSISTENTLY said that my gripe with Tua was that I didn't see an arm that would allow him to be anything more than above average. It's really disingenuous to act like I was some sort of hater. I repeatedly stated that I thought he would have a decent career, barring injury.

I've been reading this board for years - though, I dont post often.

I am firmly a Tua guy - 100% believe in this dude and am really looking forward to seeing him breakout this season and proving a lot of people wrong. However, the Tua hate and bashing on this board - and the resulting defense of Tua, from some, have made this board no longer a fun escape to come and read and interact with Dolphins fans. This place is no longer a community, but a theater of hate.

With that said - none of that applies to resnor. It is just my humble opinion, but this guy has been incredibly consistent, respectful, and informative with his criticisms and arguments. I dont agree with much of what he says, but the mannerisms in which he delivers, coupled with his fairness and consistency - I'd grab a beer and have some fun sports debates with this guy any day.

I've seen him stand firmly in his beliefs, I've seen him raise his hand and say "yep, I got that one wrong" and I've never seen him attack Tua or any poster in any way that I believe to be out of line. I wish I could say that more about people on this board - on either side of the argument.

So, I just wanted to post and raise my glass to you, resnor. I hope to God you are wrong, but thank you for giving me dissenting opinions that actually make me stop and think, rather than roll my eyes and shake my head.

He's not the only Tua critic in this thread. Why did you (or he) think I was calling him out for equivocating? I was asking if he hadn't been paying attention to the many board members who twist themselves into knots to turn any positive into a negative. Just in the past two pages, we've had folks eagerly pointing out the underthrown pass to Hill while finding reasons to praise Allen's underthrown pass to Diggs.

For the record: I will never knock somebody's fandom. Some of us think the team and players can't do wrong. Some think (correctly) that there's always room for improvement and are compelled to point to opportunities. Some believe there's room to improve while seeing that the sky's not always falling. The last one describes me, BTW. God bless everybody. I can debate (or even argue with) somebody while still defending their right to have their opinion.

Guess you didn't see last year's OL. The defense gives a lot less when you have little time to throw. I guess we all see what our experience and perspective leads us to see. You're 100% entitled to your opinion. Don't mind me.

For the record: I respect you and your opinion. Just as I respect the opinions of most people on this forum and in this thread. I may not agree with some opinions and I'm generally contentious and looking for a debate/discussion/argument(?) so sometimes, my tone comes off as being personal, but I'm no more right about anything than you or anyone else here.

I've seriously been working on it in this thread in particular and elsewhere. Take me with a grain of salt and please Please PLEASE know that if I post something that you believe is disrespectful, then it was probably in jest or in a misguided spirit of the moment.*

*I don't believe in making "I apologize if you took it that way" apologies. Those are worthless and essentially double down on what was said to begin with. If it looks like a dick, acts like a dick and seems like a dick, you've got a dick. And sometimes, that's me. But I'm honestly not here to argue, I'm here to talk about things related to the Dolphins. I often times forget where the line is.

Been away for awhile, but this thread hasn't grown as much as I thought. Not bad. Anyway, Tua's the only guy that can show he's not an important reason we're not SB contenders, so it's up to him to end the criticism. We'll see if he can do it. I think it's a coin toss. Quite disappointed in what he did last year, but he has everything he should need this year if he's good enough. Just over 21 hours till game time!

You understand that Tua's arm strength is separate from the oline struggles, right? I'm not blaming Tua for poor oline play. My position the last two seasons has been that Tua didn't have the mobility or arm strength to overcome poor play.

His arm strength and mobility are supposed to be improved this season, which gives me hope for him.

Well.. after game 1 I think continued criticism of Tua is warranted. Game manager basically. Hopefully he improves as the season progresses, but right now that's not the kind of QB you need to get through the playoffs. Great win though!

Offense looked dangerous when they protected him but when they stopped protecting him he appeared to desperately want to do something dumb.

He can't be the franchise QB as a game manager but they can win a lot of games with a game manager but that means he has to clean things up and stop trying to force something every play.

I have never been so disappointed with a win.
The offence sucked just like the last 20 years.

Tua played.... decent. He made some good throws, but there were quite a few throws that could've turned out horribly. Still, starting the year off without a turnover is never a bad thing, so... C-grade, I'd say.

Oh my god are you seriously going to go on with the Tua is great pipedream? It's not all about numbers, numbers very often lie or don't give you the real picture. Tua showed absolutely nothing to indicate he is great today. Looked like the same average QB game manager he has been for the last two seasons.

Still can't throw long with accuracy and velocity, still can't throw off platform or on the run, still misses open recievers and makes poor decisions, and is generally not a difference maker.

You cannot honestly say that about Allen.
