No surprise Hurns and Davis are the first to go after the big free agent/trade spending spree. Eric Rowe, Adam Butler, Miles Gaskin, cethan Carter, Adam Shaheen, Clayton Fejedelum, Greg Little and Calvin Munson are some other top candidates to be released. All of the above have little or no guaranteed money.
Xavien is on the verge as well. Wanted to keep him but i think hes overstayed his welcome.. we cant continue with the offseason contract drama
Fejedelum restructures, so he will not likely be cut. Surprised Gaskin hasn’t been cut. Probably keeping him as insurance until they are sure Mostert is fully recovered.
If the goal was to keep the defense of 2021 together? Then trading X would be a HUGE blow to that plan. I do think they'll offer him some incentives and try to make a deep playoff run this year. If Tua falters, then you move on from both him and X in 2023. There are still plenty of other moves Miami can make to create cap space and bring in a couple more vets; you don't need to remove a foundational part of the defense just yet.
I think the fact that he hasn't been out on social media airing laundry and complaining shows either he's well into contract talks, or he agreed to put it off for the time being in order to bring in dudes like Hill. I agree we cannot move on from him because at this point, we can't really replace him with anyone of even similar caliber. The one thought some had was bringing JC Jackson and either trading X or Byron, but that ship has sailed. Needham is good, but not X. Also a bit surprised by Gaskin, but I suspect his contract isn't that much to be a cap saver, and he can be useful depth for the time being.
Yeah, X knew he'd have to have a monster year in 2021 to avoid being forced into a restructured deal, so he held out when he had max leverage. It worked out in his favor that even though he didn't match 2020's phenomenal performance, he earned his new money. I don't see him leaving yet, even if he gets a new deal.
. Saves over 2.5M against the cap. With basically no dead money. That’s good savings for a RB who is competing to be 3rd string at best. The fact they signed 2 veterans to play in front of him and then brought back Ahmed on a much more team friendly deal (more appropriate cap hit for #3 RB) leads me to believe Gaskin will be cut.
