This is gonna open. Or... Or maybe Tua throw the ball 10 yards to Hill and Hill runs 65 yd for a touchdown. That could happen too.
I'm assuming Tua will be in the hot seat beginning the season with Teddy creeping from behind if he doesn't show any progress. What are we looking at far as value with the WR/TE/RB core? I'm assuming Hill and Waddle are both possibly 2nd round picks? Where do we see Chase Edmonds/Mostert/Gesicki being drafted at?
A little fun note. I watch the Big O show quite often so yesterday I flipped on the replay of the days show because I wanted to hear his take on the days events. When it was 1st announced that the Chiefs were moving Hill yesterday before any partners where mentioned, he was mockingly saying how Sure lets trade for him. His reasoning being that Dolphins fans want to get everyone that comes on the market and was going on about it for about 5 minutes when someone posted on his chat thing that he needed to check Adam Schefters tweet. About that time his, I dont know producer or whatever, gets on camera and breaks O the news that the Dolphins and the Jets are the 2 teams in contention for him. It was the ultimate Wait? What? moment. I just found that really funny. I really like Big O so I don't hold it against him but man that was funny.
I mean, Tua was a hair below average last season but folks also have to realize that he was getting the ball out in 1.5 seconds. That's blazing fast and nowhere near enough time for routes to develop. It's just how awful the offensive line was though; there was no time to do anything. Tua has done well with what he had to work with. This season, he should have time to throw. And a great run game. And two guys that can bust a screen wide open. And intermediate passing routes. And confidence that he's not going to have his head knocked off in 1.5 seconds. Because that's the other part of this, he had the league's fastest release AND he was under pressure that quick- meaning receivers like Gisecki, Parker and Williams were never options. So what we're really going to see is the offense opening up and several of the top skill players in the league on the receiving end. In other words, I think we see a lot more of that Alabama Tua, the one who never does anything spectacular but somehow keeps the offense firing on all cylinders. And that's all we're really going to need with a good run game, Waddle, Tyreek, etc.
So we traded our whole draft? That's exciting and all to acquire someone the caliber of Tyreek Hill, especially since he's basically a Waddle Sr. But I'm going to hope for some more big UFA splashes, and maybe we can keep our 3rd just so I have a reason to pay attention to the draft. To be fair, I'd rather Grier trade picks for good players than to trust his instinct on drafting them. If we can buy a contender, do it.
Hate to say it, but there is some truth to this. Especially Tua's major lack of arm strength, he can no way make those crazy off balance throws under pressure like Mahomes MIA gave up allot for a WR who isn't an ideal scheme fit for their offense. Tua does not have good arm strength and cannot maximize Tyreeks strengths. This is going to blow up in MIAs face as Tyreek is know to be uber vocal. This a deal you make when you feel your a couple of pieces away from winning a SB and have a QB with a live arm. MIA just dug their own AFC East graves and KC can replenish their team with good young talent. That is how good teams do it folks.
At alabama Tua's YPA was 11.3 in his final year. Last year Tom Brady's was 7.4. I don't know... maybe he does have the arm. Maybe we just haven't seen it yet because the oline was pretty terrible. Either way, Tyreek doesn't hurt the team in the mean time. Worse case scenario we eat his salary after we cut him and tank another yr for a QB.
Please don't tell me that you're comparing tua's college stats to Tom Brady's stats. In college, Tua was surrounded by all Americans and 5 star recruits. Other than 1 or 2 games a year, Alabama had a gigantic advantage in talent. Every Bama QB for the past 10-15 years has looked amazing in college and then go on to do nothing in the NFL
Dolphins offense is built around YAC which Tyreek is great at. I know the "Tyreek down there somewhere" highlights might confuse people but how did everyone forget that Tyreek broke out with Alex Smith?
I'm just saying there's plenty of alabama highlights showing he can throw deeper then he's shown at miami. Which means it isn't an arm strength issue (unless injury has caught up with him). And may be fixable.
What Highlights? Throwing deep floaters to wide open receivers? I have never seen Tua throw the ball more than 50 yards in the air, either in college or the pros. Even to do that he has to put a lot of air under it and give it all he's got. Tuna does NOT have a strong arm for an NFL QB. That is pretty much an established fact. I don't know how anyone is still debating this.
Here you go - 52-55 yds. 5:00min mark Love how you criticise the video for showing 'floaters' and then criticise Tua for not seeing 50+ yd passes. How many 50yd passes on a rope have you seen? No one is saying Tua has a strong arm for the NFL. We're saying he doesn't have a weak or poor arm. But then, for some people, there's no gradation or middle ground, it's either weak or a cannon. Are you one of those or do you see that there's more that just weak and cannon? Or do you genuinely think Tua has one of the weakest arms in the NFL? If so, who would you say is comparable? Tua's ability to throw deep is established. He led the SEC in 2018 in deep passes. He showed his ability in 2021 to be accurate at depth. He just didn't throw many. Do you take into account the fact that the offense didn't ask him to do it? Plenty of people see the ability there, the problem is giving him time to throw. Or maybe not. Maybe he's just a really, really weak armed QB. Right?
nah I would give him 51 released at 1 caught at Bengal 48. I’m just being a d*** was a bit of air under it but was accurate hard to tell if he could have thrown farther if he needed to. We will definitely find out soon enough…..
Oh wow, 52 yards, guess you showed me. Tua does not have a strong arm for an NFL QB, his arm is average at best, that's just a fact. And it's not just me saying it, his opponents and his own teammates say it as well. He can't make all the throws that other strong armed QBs can. As for other QBs throwing long passes on a rope, I've seen quite a few, Mahomes, Allen, Rodgers, just to name a few, and oh yeah Hebert, you know that guy who was picked right after Tua...
I dont really see a downside to this tbh. Gives us play makers on offense and we get a year to see if Tua is any good. It's basically sink or swim for him this year. I think the only downside is his right side tackle will still be suspect this season. However, he has more than enough now to not be given excuses and truth be told the dolphins set themselves up as a prime destination if any qb gets disgruntled this season.
