Am I the only one that thinks we just hired Logic as HC?

Usually I'd agree, but not this time. Not after back to back 9+ win seasons being the 1st team out for the playoffs. This isn't a rebuild, the defense has the ability to be stellar, and I'm sorry...this is not the time for patience. It's the time we grab a few linemen, grab a few receivers and make a playoff run on the heels of this D.

defense scheme change could mess with the defense. Hopefully, we will see more of the same.

oh I agree I’m saying the organization with this move is not saying win now! They are saying let’s build this again.

what I’m saying like you is do it now !

Just because you hire a young/rookie HC does not mean you are looking to start over, rebuild or take a step back. Green Bay fired a veteran Super Bowl winning coach and brought in a young, unproven, rookie coach who has definitely not lost ground (though he hasn't gotten over the hump either).

The idea here is that the defense is playoff caliber, and now we can potentially build an offense to match. He's probably going to take some lumps in terms of gameday experience, but if he can bring enough to the table otherwise, it should balance out and be an overall net positive.

Whether or not it works, that remains to be seen. But I do not believe in any way that any of Ross, Grier or McDaniel are thinking of a losing season or high draft picks. We brought this guy here to win, and hopefully now.

So we got a new coach and instead of a new thread it’s merged into an existing one?

Maybe I'm just jaded but Ross' statement just sounds like a repetition of things he's heard other people say. Grier's is a bit better, but somehow I end up coming away with a sense of foreboding.

Then again, maybe they're just meaningless media bytes following the hiring of a new head coach.

What are they gonna say? "Well, we were running out of time and this guy was there, so we hired him". Which would actually be the truth. EVERYONE on here bashes Ross and grier but think somehow they got it right this time.

Bengals were univerally believe to have terrible scouts, cheap owner, just an ugly organization. They draft the right QB and they in the superbowl. Did Miami get this right, I don't know... but just being a sheer numbers games, chances are we'll eventually get it right.

I've been as critical of Ross and Grier as anyone, if not as vulgar about it. I've a whole thread on the point that the problem with this team has been Ross and at present, Grier with him.

I really wish that wasn't the case, and I continue to hope that Ross can at least stumble onto a good solution. McDaniel is his own man. Who that is remains to be seen. He deserves the benefit of the doubt. If Ross and Grier start to weigh in on him with burdens or actions he can't avoid then nothing he does will matter. This idea, though, that because Ross and Grier chose him he must, by that fact, be a piece of trash is utter nonsense. It's not like we can do anything about Ross or Grier (or anything else, for that matter), but McDaniel is new, he's the head coach, and as I said, he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

He's got a capable quarterback. Coach believes he can work with Tua to maximise his potential. I believe that potential has just increased tenfold with this hire.

That plus what happens with the DC and who do we get to coach the O-line, let’s see the staff he can put together.

Bigger concern to me is defensive staff and ST coordinator. He will focus on offense and if defensive coaches /scheme are retained that unit should be ok with solid point man. ST was abysmal in all phases. Love riz back if possible

McDaniel showed more respect to Tua in two minutes than Flores did in two years.

I'm not sure that is really accurate with the Bengals. They have had some decent players come through. They seem to often have good WR's.

See now that means a great deal. One of the criticisms of McDaniel is that he didn't call plays with the 49ers. But if he was the guy behind the scenes evaluating the upcoming opponent and determining how the 49ers needed to play that week to beat that specific opponent, and designing gameplans based on that, then he was the driving intellect behind their offensive success. That's no different from how Bill Belichick has functioned for decades now. Bill Belichick doesn't call plays either, but he's most certainly the architect behind the specific and highly effective (far more often than not) gameplans they use to beat opponents week to week.

This guy McDaniel functions like an offensive Belichick. If he gets a capable defensive coordinator and an infusion of talent, this team is on its way.

Mikey Mac was responsible for the run game gameplan pretty much. Shanny devised the pass-game strategy. Shanny made the gameday calls but it was based on strategies from film analysis and the run game was structure based on what intel Mikey Mac provided. Anyone who knows Shanny knows he is very hands on when it comes to offense. Part of the reason he still calls plays as a head coach. He frankly believes no one is better equipped to do it but him. But to trust someone else to devise and strategize for an upcoming opponent to the point where you just run with their notes and intel and just go, speaks to how much trust Shanny had in him. People have to remember both Matt LaFleur and Sean McVay were once in the chair where Mikey Mac sat in regards to Shanny and neither could say that had that kind of influence on gameplanning/playcalling. Like I said before, that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be a great HC but those Shanny disciples aren't doing too shabby these days....ijs.

I wouldn’t say we’re rebuilding or starting over…but it truly concerns me that this team has not hired an experienced NFL head coach in 20 years.

Since Wannstedt’s departure our list of hired head coaches have been…

    Nick Saban-NCAA Head Coach
    Cam Cameron-OC San Diego Chargers
Tony Sparano- Line coach Dallas Cowboys
    Joe Philbin-OC Green Bay Packers
    Adam Gase-OC Denver Broncos
Brian Flores-Defensive coach New England Patriots.
Mike McDaniels- OC San Francisco 49ers

That’s 7 coaches with no NFL head coaching experience. At lease Huizenga made efforts in getting that proven leadership in Jimmy Johnson…and despite his previous failure as a head coach, at least Wannstedt was getting the Dolphins to the playoffs. Since then, the playoffs have been a plague that the Dolphins have avoided.

Don’t get me wrong, I wish McDaniels the absolute best. Maybe this will be lucky number 7 but seeing how screwed up the organization is at the upper echelon, I’m not enthusiastic.

I was for Flores, but to see how much at odds the coach and management were at each other…and how it’s been the same thing every 3-4 years, I just see us regressing further and further where the Detroit Lions will no longer be considered the worst team in the league.

    Hope I’m wrong
