Well, the one article someone shared today said that Ross felt disrespected in their meeting Monday. It is possible that they went into that meeting expecting him to remain the coach, but Flores said a few choice things that made it impossible.

I wouldn't be shocked if it eventually comes out that Flores quit...exactly like Adam Gase did.

I'm speculating that Grier and Ross told Flores how they want things to be done going forward and Flo told them something along the lines of "you hired me to win football games, I'm winning football games, so leave me the **** alone". Basically, I don't tell you how to do your job so don't tell me how to do mine

I think coaches are starting to realize they can cash out on the rest of their deal easily by a very fragile and sensitive owner.

Brian Flores has already landed an interview. The fired Dolphins coach might not be unemployed for long. The Bears have requested to interview Flores, which would be his first interview since being let go. The Bears have also requested to interview Dan Quinn.

Bears would be a good fit for him and it would be nice if he went to the NFC.

Something about Miami sports and bad ownership gets their head coaches to tell them to go **** themselves…

Girardi did it to Loria.. Gase and Flores to Ross

I do love that we get the flores/gase told the owner to go **** himself… but nobody would mention what dumb *** **** ross says to elicit that response from multiple career football guys.

  9. As most moderately intelligent folks know, none of this matters, it is all theater until Ross dies or sells. Flores, grier, Tua, etc are all low-rent bozos, but Flores was probably the best of the bunch. Of course, Ross the clown fires the one of three that is probably somewhat competent. Grier is a buffoon grifter that hangs on because of "reasons" collecting a fat check. The selection of a gimpy, child-like, pellet-gunned arm game manager, daddy's boy over an athletic freak with a cannon in Herbert should EASILY already have been a fireable offense even not considering Iggy, a 15 year OL project, failed veteran FAs, and 25 other examples. But Ross, a great real-estate mogul, is not made for this. Have no doubt he will likely screw this hire up, just as he has every time before.

I am sure Flores is a grade-A prick, probably is unlikable, and not a good guy to have a beer with. However, he was the most competent of this lot. Did he make mistakes? Many. But he was also saddled with an absolute child at QB and had to work with Grier and Ross for 3 years. No coach, no human could overcome all of that. had we taken Herbert we prob would be in the playoffs two years in a row. Hell, had we stuck with Fitzy we prob would have gotten in once. I wish Flores well. I suspect he will grow, and I hope he throws all these quislings, Grier, Ross..under the bus at some point. The fact that he stood up to these clowns, while not a good employee move, makes me respect him more.

So again, as long as you have Commander Clown leading this circus, with an incompetent political hire at GM, and a runtish child at QB - don't expect much different. Year 21 of the rebuild continues, and I suspect we have at least another 3-5 years to go. Another year of the BB-gun at QB, and we will be on to another 3 year rebuild as we go through the QB process once again, what's that number 26 since Danny? It's all so tiresome, but like sands through the hourglass this is your life and it closes on eternal darkness, one minute at a time.

As Tony said, I suppose, "remember the good times," because such times won't be here for a very long time....the clown hamster continues to run the wheel.

I see the Bears as a terrible fit. Similar offensive issues as us, but the defense is older and less talented. They need a person to right the ship offensively and develop Fields. Flores is not that guy.

Broncos, if they land a veteran QB, make the most sense imo. The funny one would be Houston cutting bait on Culley and getting Flo and making nice with Watson. Then again, maybe Flo goes to Denver and gets them to trade for Watson.

Yeah, they need offensive guidance in Chicago, with a young QB needing to develop.

The idea of him landing in Houston with Watson, if Flores was indeed pounding the table for him, would be interesting. The Texans really need the draft capital from a Watson trade to rebuild, but it would be fun to see that situation play out.

The Broncos seem intent on trying to get Rodgers, I'm not sure getting Flores as coach makes Denver more attractive to Aaron -the exact opposite I would guess. Rodgers wants his input heard and respected and I doubt Flo wants to listen to players dictate anything.

How crazy would it be to see Flores get another job BEFORE Miami finds another coach though? Not that it has to be a race, it shouldn't, but the pressure is on the Dolphins to land a good looking hire. That also tells me a vet coach would be the way they want to go, as a first time coach is going to have WAY more questions and NOT look like an immediate upgrade.

Grier should definitely be gone as well.
    This is nuts.
He’s like Ross’s little crutch, his little biotch. This is BS. Are you kidding me?
WTH has he done to have such a safe position? This sucks

It's really not. Anyone who holds year 1 against Flores doesn't have even the most basic grasp of what it takes to build a successful football team.

I don’t want him in the AFC and I think his personality fits with Chicago. Denver or Houston (don’t know if he wants to join another dysfunctional franchise, Watson would probably be the sole reason) would make sense too.

Wannstedt, as you mentioned, had our last back-to-back winning seasons. But Wannstedt was NOT a good coach. He was mediocre. He got us to mediocrity and he couldn't do any better. He stuck with a QB who was not bad but not good enough to take us to the next level, even when he had the opportunity to do better. And everyone could see it at the time. The 2002 Dolphins had the leading rusher, leading sacker and leading tackler in the NFL, had the best defense that year, and still didn't make the playoffs...because of a subpar QB who Wannstedt and Speilman wouldn't let go.
Since then, we sank lower, until we feel nostalgia for the mediocrity and cheer when we reach that level again. But that doesn't mean the goal of the team should be mediocrity.

Look this whole thing is pretty simple once you get through all the noise. Flores does not believe in Tua and was mad Grier picked him over Herbert. Even though he signed off on the pick it was not his first choice and Tua was pushed through by Grier who has final say over all picks and personnel matters. Flores has generally been unhappy with Grier's drafting and signing of players and his meddling in football matters, so he forcefully asked Ross for more control over drafting and personel, basically making a power play to get Grier out of the way, but since Grier is Ross's love child he decided to side with Grier and canned Flores.

Lots of stuff there but the thing that makes the most sense to me is a repetition of what I've heard elsewhere, that Ross is an absentee owner who makes his decisions based on what others tell him without seeing things for himself. It just fits the scenario. Forget the details about Flores, look at the pattern of behaviour over the years. He listens to others, makes puzzling moves, doesn't seem to set an identity and take control of the team but defers to others and has little control, just rubber stamps things.

If he were in control Grier would have gone with Flores.

    Sick team.

The problem with these media reports is that they're reporting on generalities, but Flores was fired for a very specific reason. People have to realize though that head coaches are working 15+ hours a day, 7 days a week, and they are dialed in on everything happening within the organization. Then you get pulled in with the owner who has no idea what's going on, no idea about the talent levels on the team, and he starts questioning you about narratives other people told him...some that don't even work for Miami. It would be so incredibly easy in that position to say how you really feel to Ross after you just put in thousands of hours and turned a bad team around.

I'm not saying that was the smart thing to do, but Flores likely said what needed to be said. And the general message there would have been, "You have no idea what you're talking about." Add in a few <bleeps> and I think we'd be pretty close to what actually happened.

The reasoning Ross has given seem to indicate an ear to Grier's words. He talked up the roster, believes in it, didn't indicate any idea that the roster also has its issues. The reason given was also general and non-specific. Relationship issues. Precisely the sort of thing one would expect if either he had a personal issue with Flores, or if Grier simply said things weren't working out with Flores because he isn't listening to Grier on how to use the players, or something similar. Ross doesn't give the impression he has first hand visibility of the issues and made his own call.

I think Flores could possibly be a good HC at some point, but I think more likely, he will run into the same issues as all the other belicheat disciples. They all seem to think they can pull the same attitude and dismissiveness as Bill without the clout. Belicheat is a dick and takes that **** storm, but he is also smart enough to hire competent coordinators and position coaches. Flores never brought anybody in to competently manage the offense. Instead he complained and attempted to sabotage the young QB on the roster. Whether you like Tua or not, he was drafted and is our QB. Find an OC that likes his skillet, probably a WCO lifer, and make it work. I don't care what offense they run, score points and don't turn the ball over.

In relation to Grier, he to date has whiffed on the OL. There is no argument there. Outside of that he has hit on many other picks. I think they should abandon the draft for OL prospects and just shell out the cash in FA from here on out.

Having said that, I would love for us to draft Darian Kinnard from the University of Kentucky lol. He has the toughness the OL seems to be missing. Full transparency, I am a die hard UK fan.

It's almost universal that talking heads love Flores.

Is it because Ross is MAGA and people are conditioned to hate him? He had a team that went 10-6 and proceeded to go 1-7 only to redeem the season. People are conveniently forgetting how easy the second half of the Dolphins schedule was.

He's a defensive genius? Then why could the Falcons and Jags carve them up?

If the Dolphins were 1-7 but had a lot of bad bounces but were playing decent, I wouldn't have started to sour on Flores. The team was ****ing awful. The entire team. They were playing the worst defense in the league.

I believe and still believe there is good enough talent on the Dolphins to go to the playoffs. In fact, I think the Dolphins beat the Patriots in the last game because they were just more talented than the Patriots.

IMO, Flores did not do a good job at coaching this season and that is why he was fired.

The struggles at the beginning of the season were due to injuries and bad personel moves during the off-season, those are on Grier. Coaches did a great job of righting the ship and doing the best they could with what they had to work with, which was not much thanks to Grier.

Flores recognized Grier for the incompetent grifter that he is and asked to have more control over personel, but Ross sided with his longtime love buddy Grier.

Most owners are hated by their teams fans and Ross isn't the worst simply because at least he is willing to spend on the team but their performance under him is extremely mediocre and there is no reason to think he knows what he is doing.

No. Signing off is not the same as having final say. He was playing the yes man role initially until he realized what an idiot Grier is.

He would not have asked for final say over personel as has been reported if he thought he was getting the guys he really wanted.

Grier's hits in the draft have been few and far between, especially when you take into account the players he leaves on the board. Multiple pro bowlers which we could have had in the draft every year under Grier but ended up with complete busts or just ok players.

What's the expectation here? 100% hit rate? I'll admit Grier definitely has his misses. Igbo, Jackson are clear examples. However, no team drafts all pro bowlers. In just the last 3 years he is 3 of 6 in the first round if you don't count tua as a hit. I personally think the verdict isn't out on Tua so I don't count that against him. I get everybody is in love with Herbert, but hindsight is clearly 20/20. In regards to the mid rounds he seems to be pretty consistent as well. Jevon Holland, Brandon Jones, raekwon Davis, van ginkel. Eichenberg who knows yet. I get that he misses, and misses badly sometimes, but who doesn't?

Being the "yes man" theory runs contrary to all reports so far. Whether or not he had say or wanted this, that, or another I don't know. I highly doubt he was ever a "yes man" that seems more in line with Grier.
