We battle about GM, HC, QB… and on and on where the blame lies. Sometimes good natured debate, sometimes awful and mean spirited. i want something we can all agree on: the punter ****ing sucks. palardy was brought in to upgrade Haack, and will finish… tied with Haack for 26th of 32 qualifying punters in punting average. How…do they correctly decide to move on AND BRING IN A GUY WITH THE EXACT SAME PRODUCTION? You couldnt do that if you tried. Shuffling deck chairs on the titanic. Place kicker awful too this year. Dismal ST all season really. Underrated cause for despair. punting stats: https://www.footballdb.com/statistics/nfl/player-stats/punting
Agreed. The fact that on the first two drives that the Dolphins had over 50 yards and the Titans had 6 yards then ended up losing the field position battle to the point where the first touchdown drive was about half the field was very frustrating.
Not sure what happended but last year we had one of the better units in the league.Even Sanders took a step back this year.
During the game watching a few punts leading up to the titans first TD, I remember thinking, "when did punter become such a glarring weakness on this team". I always assumed he was just another typical mid-level punter... I was wrong.
You could literally cut him right now, and find his replacement today. Hell that could have been done 4 months ago. It is such a simple fix its stupid that we did not address it at anytime. An upgrade is available right now in the free agent market, guaranteed. I dont know his name, i just know that there is most definitely about 40 punters better than him looking for a shot.
Other than a few punts in high school when our real punter got hurt, I've never been a kicker so I can't offer much insight. But I can tell you that they are highly routine-oriented and with COVID, I'm sure those routines got shaken up to some degree. Maybe that's why so many teams are struggling with kickers/punters this season?
True, the kicking game has been down all across the NFL it seems. So many missed kicks and bad punting.
Exactly, I brought this up to my son while were watching. We lost the field position battle right off jump street and that was a huge factor in the Titans 1st TD at a time when we were doing better on the field than the Titans. Both of his 1st punts were little better than 30 yards. That's Bad.
The NFL should allow teams to recover their own punts. That would result in either long punts to just get rid of the ball down the far end of the field, or shorter high punts where the punting team can run and get under the ball and try to come down with it. High risk high reward football. In terms of Miami's punting, our special teams weren't great this year... more coaching issues?
I know some people might think this is silly but if I see the Dolphins punter do poorly on the first two punts I generally think that the Dolphins are going to lose the game. I don't have any stats, it just seems like how good the punter does goes a long way to winning the game. I know the Saints had a quarterback who didn't really have a chance, however, the punting in that game was excellent.
Something something flores would pay someone else to be his mother for half the price if that person can do the same job.. something
That wasnt bad! That was smart! Then you brought in a guy with the same punt average as haack this year, who is declining! Thst is bad! They identified an area to upgrade and whiffed, which is a common theme among this regime. ID the problem. Unable to fix it
Letting Haack go in the off-season was another dumb move by Grier. Not only is Palardy not as good a punter as Haack, but he also does not have the chemistry with Sanders that Haack had. He messed up Sander's kicking game by changing holders on him.
