Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley has been one of the NFL’s most vocally unvaccinated players. Now he’s on the COVID-19 reserve list. Beasley tested positive for COVID-19, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. That means he will have to miss at least 10 days and will miss Sunday’s all-important AFC East matchup at New England.
This is almost an understatement. The Bills play Atlanta and the Jets to end the season so likely 2 wins. If they lose to NE that puts them at 10-7. If we also end up 10-7 with the Bills, the Bills eliminate us for the WC because division tiebreaker is applied first for WC. From the official rules for WC tiebreakers: https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-tie-breaking-procedures/ So Bills beating NE is almost as important as us winning out. If they lose it's VERY likely we don't make the playoffs no matter what we do, unless of course they somehow lose to Atlanta or the Jets.
Yup, we have to have the Bills win this week or lose one of the next two...that's our only clear path unless something crazy happens in other AFC divisions. Personally, I could see the Jets or Falcons shocking them- I don't think the Bills are as good as people think. But I definitely don't want to count on it!
Wait wait wait a second. Didn’t we just have 2 that were on the Covid list and were yet active game time, less than previous 10 day protocol that was just amended by the league?
Rules are different for vaccinated and unvaccinated players: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...-play-protocols-return-intensive-restrictions
So if Beasley were, for the sake of conversation is asymptotic, tests negative today, tomorrow, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning…clearly NOT Covid positive, because he is not vaccinated, he’s going to be discriminated against more than someone who is vaccinated, is symptomatic, tests positive today, tomorrow and maybe Thursday, but tests negative Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning and he gets to play? Am I the only a$$hole that thinks this is about stupid? If you’re negative, you’re negative…for the sake of conversation
In a nutshell, the NFL is trying to convince players/coaches/etc that it's easier to get fully vaccinated than to deal with the protocols. Maybe they think they're being a good employer by giving people "choices", but it seems a whole lot more like a punishment/reward scenario to me. I'm 100% for the vaccines, but not like this.
The calculus for the NFL comes down to money: they don't want to cancel games and lose money, but they also can't put themselves in a situation where they're held liable for creating unsafe workplace conditions (one successful lawsuit like that could wipe out a lot more than they'd make by playing a bunch of extra games). Omicron is putting them in a tough spot because of how easily transmissible it is. They can't keep up this rate of testing because it shows too many players infected which could lead to cancellation of games, but simultaneously they want to reduce the risk for themselves by getting as many players and staff vaccinated, hence this new change in policy. It's logical from that point of view. It was never intended to be logical from a health point of view. Of course, they can't make it too illogical from a health point of view due to potential lawsuits and even worse: the potential for government oversight if enough people complain. That would be loss of power, not just money.
It is beyond stupid honestly.. and to share an opinion that wont be popular to many… its time to continue to normal life with a virus.. I think between the two presidential administrations, the public has received plenty of information about the vaccine. People who wanted the vaccine has made their choice by now. The NFL, NBA and other sports leagues and other venues (concerts), have got to move forward. Get the legal paperwork ready, put it in the back of tickets. If youre unvaccinated, you may attend a game, but if you catch covid, youve had plenty of resources and information available the last two years. Should you get sick, thats on you, hell thats on me too, since im unvaccinated. Players should be allowed to play if they dont have symptoms. the rest of the world does not share responsibility about my or anyones health moving forward. Everyone had a choice and we all face the consequences with our choices. Get on with normal life and move forward. This virus is here to stay, forever.
With all the athletes coming down with myocarditis from the injections, I can't fathom why any healthy athlete would submit to these injections. Especially with all the available effective therapies. I read the other day that Israel, I think it was Israel, is saying that people are going to have to get 4 yearly boosters. No thanks.
In the US, they're thinking that this will be the last year of a "pandemic" since Omnicron is so contagious- everyone should gain immunity one way or the other by the end of next year. From then on, they'll treat it like an "endemic", which is what the flu is (seasonal shots- hopefully just one season). Side note- I saw today that the NFL's top doctor said that they don't believe asymptomatic people spread the virus because that's not what they've seen this year. He went on to say that it's only spreading in locker rooms when the player is showing symptoms...which is nothing like what the CDC is saying. But he also said that they changed the protocols based on CDC recommendations. So we're still not getting the full story and that infuriates me.
Not sure where you're at but in South Carolina, I went and saw Disney on Ice two weeks ago with family. We also saw Spider Man in a theater last night. In both cases, maybe 1 in 30 had a mask on and seating was 100% normal...nobody was spaced out or anything. In my opinion, the world has moved forward BUT every business and govt. entity is trying to cover their own butts. Maybe I'm off base though- is California still locked down? What about NY? I really don't watch the news much anymore because I can't stand the daily COVID reports that don't seem to say a single thing informative.
In Colorado hospitalization rates were over 100% due to covid. This prevents hospitals from performing other services and keeps people from having surgery that may result in an admission. We're not at the point of living with the virus yet. Beasley made his choice, knew the rules, still complaining about it. You rolled the dice, now accept the outcome.
I can’t disagree with this statement strong enough. I mean, there are no words strong enough to express it. This has been nothing more than a governmental version of parents saying to a child “because I said so”. If you want to change the minds of intelligent rational reasonable thinking people, you don’t do it with absolutism. You do it with OBJECTIVE information and messaging. Don’t tell me I have to…I don’t have to do anything but die and stay white. I can’t do anything about that. That’s going to happen no matter what I do. Whether or not I get the vaccine (and this includes Beasley) is my choice. If you want me to make THAT choice, then convince me why it’s in my best interest to do so. Now I’m not an anti-vaccine person. I have all the normal childhood vaccinations that all American children get. I’ve been shot up with God only knows WHAT when I was in the Army including yellow fever and anthrax. So I’ve had tons of crap shot into me. I’m not an anti-vaxer…but you know what I can’t find anywhere? I can’t find ANYTHING on the effects, positive or negative on the long term effects of mRNA technology being used for this vaccine. Nothing at all. If you really want me…and Beasley for that matter to get vaccinated, then message that. Convince me…educate me…reassure me…that I’m not going to get jabbed today and in 15 years see the commercial on TV, “have you or a loved one suffered from “X” as a result from the experimental Covid-19 vaccination? You may be entitled to damages…” “You” aren’t doing that. All you’re doing is telling me…telling Beasley that you either get the vaccine or lose your job. Well that’s the biggest bunch of crap there is in the world!! We have the best scientists in the world. We have the greatest communications facilities in the world. There’s no way you don’t have the ABILITY to convey your educational message to me…to convince me and Beasley. The capabilities are there. What’s NOT there is the actual convincing message that makes me and Beasley say, “dang, I really do need to get this shot” and willingly get it with the full confidence that it’s safe, effective and I’m not going to get turned into some walking dead zombie in 10 years. If you wish to change someone’s mind, you elevate the level of your argument not resort to absolutism and that’s what this government, corporations and the NFL has done.

Again, being critical is fine and, frankly, laudable. We have too little of it in general. The problem is that it's largely misplaced. The medical and scientific community is in near lockstep regarding the vaccines and Covid. The issue is people using sources of "information" - almost entirely politically motivated - who oppose for political reasons vs. actual medical/scientific doubt. You want a conspiracy, that's the real one. And it's gotten to the point where even Trump himself announcing he is boosted and again claiming credit for the speed of the vaccines is getting him of all people booed.
I'm not talking about you here, but I think that even if that information was out there the majority of the people who haven't been vaccinated wouldn't get vaccinated because for them it's not a medical or scientific issue, but a political issue instead.
And THAT is a crying assed shame that a global pandemic was used as a political pawn in dividing the people rather than it being used as a unifier like we were during the 9/11 attacks on our country, the attack on Pearl Harbor, etc. It's been said that all of the information is out there. Well in all seriousness, I bet Beasely and folks like me wish we could find ANYTHING on mRNA vaccine technology in an effort to make an INFORMED decision...but there's nothing that I've been able to find and as such, erroring on the side of caution. But is that decision respected? Nope. Beasley and I are just dumb, stupid, ignorant, gun toting Trump rednecks. What a shame that respect and actual conversation has gone by the wayside.
There's tons of (reliable) information out there. If you're really serious about making an informed decision you need to understand the underlying biological mechanisms, both of mRNA vaccines and the immune system. That's important because it's the only way you'll develop a more accurate intuition for what is likely to be true or not. After that it's just looking at research papers from reputable journals. Start with wikipedia on mRNA vaccines and the immune system. If you don't understand something either research it yourself or you can PM me. Probably better not to continue the discussion here as it could be labeled off topic and deleted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRNA_vaccine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immune_system
It's implied that the research papers come AFTER wikipedia. Learn some reading comprehension or stop trolling.
not trolling.. not worth making a long rebuttal when they'll just delete these posts anyway wikipedia isn't even accepted as a source at high schools lol.. how come the majority of people hospitalized in UK and Israel are vaccinated?
Proof you don't do actual scientific research. Wikipedia is a VERY good initial starting point for any heavily discussed topic in science. Doesn't mean it's always up to date or that every tiny detail is accurate, but it's often a good starting point if you come across something you're unfamiliar with in science. Once you get a general idea of what the issue is about, then you can delve into other sources.
Take a look at those links. They're very good sources of information for the uninitiated. You're just making reflexive responses without knowing what you're talking about. Anyway, not worth talking to you about this.
I disagree, I think they have not been near any lockstep and it has led to confusion and distrust. And I don't think it's all been based on science either. Many times I suspected the CDC and Fauci were just winging it. And this is not to place blame, as I said in a deleted post (???) this has always been a fluid event, there was never real precedents to run decisions by. But anyone raising valid points about the decisions made is ostracized by the elites as troublemakers and conspiracy theorists.
You do know that anyone can go into Wikipedia and alter what it says, correct? You're right, it's not worth talking to me about it because you're so much smarter than me. Is it hard to breathe all the way up there, looking down on all us rubes?
So... for those who post things in threads expecting it all to get deleted... are you just gluttons for punishment (this is a Dolphins forum, after all), do you just like to make work for the mods, or do you just enjoy not thinking/exercising any sort of self-discipline?
