Huh. There would have to be more going on behind the scenes for them wanting him out- the emails never would have leaked otherwise.

    It's official, he gone.

Schefty on MNF with the report saying more emails including going after Goodell (using a homophobic slur), LGTBQ, women, additional racism (beyond using racial tropes regarding appearance of De Smith) and more. Also that the language was similar up through emails as recent as 2018.

Edit: It's apparently super hard for certain forum posters here to accept a world that doesn't appreciate racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. Go figure. They are super tough guys who are really sad they can't say that stuff anymore.

Theres big money on the line, they get lots of contributions from those social groups. Theyre not about to let this go lightly when it hurts their pockets

There likely was some kind of conduct clause allowing for a void. Either way, sounds like he just wants to duck and get out of public life for awhile. Dude's got more money than he will ever need.

Statement from Jon Gruden: “I have resigned as Head Coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. I love the Raiders and do not want to be a distraction. Thank you to all the players, coaches, staff, and fans of Raider Nation. I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone.”

    Guys, what on earth?

I've just cleaned up this thread.

Are we not able to talk like adults any more?

The rules here are pretty simple and longstanding. They boil down to, 'be respectful'.

Please do that, and if you can't, then walk away and post at a later time when you can do so respectfully.

This is not a forum for everyone to vent every last thought and emotion. If you want to do that, go start a blog somewhere. Don't do it here.

    Thank you.

Don't know why my comment was deleted. But...

If all these people who think Gruden is being fired because of "wokeness" or "this generation being soft", then, by all means, go to your workplace and start saying the things that Gruden said in the emails. Tell me how that turns out.

You can legislate acts…things you actually do or say in the workplace for example. You can’t legislate morality…the things you think or believe.

Now I don’t know if these emails were private correspondence between Gruden and another person…I don’t know if these emails were part of a group email chain. If they were the former, as reprehensible as his remarks may have been, so what? It was a private correspondence between A and B. If B had issue with Gruden said, say something to him right then and there. Nip it in the bud.

If it was part of a group chain, Gruden lost the protection of privacy. When speaking to a group, you always risk offending someone.

Either way, this is 2021. These emails were supposedly in 2011. This is coming up now…WHY???? Is this normal life now…someone crawling up your asteroid with a microscope to find something…anything negative about you then to use against you today?

Every single one of us has something shameful in our past. Anyone who says they don’t is lying, but that shameful act, that shameful statement, that shameful thought or belief that you had then doesn’t necessarily define who or what you are today and if you are one of those who are diehard must punish anyone and everyone for past shameful thoughts or deeds, first look in the mirror and remember you’re living in a glass house. Not wise to cast stones in that glass house.

Everyone here loved “Chucky” and there was often thoughts brought up of brining him here. Now because EMAILS, he’s going to be typecast as a racist, sexist homophobe POS that should be burned at the stake

Guys - Can we keep this thread on the football/Raiders/Gruden side of things than the state of politics and culture in the USA and around the world? The latter, as you know, tends to go downhill and I've already had to clean out the thread once. I'd rather not have to do it again. Let's keep it to football, please.

Yes, because of his actions that we did not know about him people's opinions of him change. That is how life works. New information causes people to make new choices.

It was 2011, that was not ancient times. He was still an adult then. 10 years ago is not very long ago. It is not like he has apologized about it and moved on and they have come out.

Turns out Gruden is a huge Piece of S***. He is getting what he deserved for being a huge piece of ****.

I completely agree- we see this a lot in society these days and the "cancel culture" is a serious problem. If someone is pulling up an email from a decade ago and using it as evidence against someone, I personally think we should look at that person's motivations more than anything. What are they trying to gain by launching a decade-old smear campaign?

I see the other side as well- wrong is wrong and there are things that should never be said. But I can't agree with pressuring people to resign over their distant past.

One story that really got me was a local singer from my town who was on American Idol, Kaleb Kennedy. He's a teen country singer and was a favorite to win the show, but they kicked him off in the semi-finals because they found a 3-second video when he was 12 with a friend who had a sheet over his head. People said that the friend was wearing what looked like a klan hood. And that was it; he was "cancelled" by Hollywood. They didn't even give him a chance to explain himself.

That's not the same as Gruden, of course, I only shared that to say society often goes too far in punishing people with what they feel is righteous in the moment.

I completely disagree. Gruden is an adult. He knew what he was doing back then. 10 years is not that long when you are in your 50s

I would think a new HC would want to bring in his own staff, so the scheme would likely change. Therefore roster fit might be a concern.
The Dolphins might still have more in the way of draft picks etc. if a HC wanted to bring about change.

But.... based on the rosters as they are now - Dolphins or Raiders?

Even though its between 2 individuals what he said about Goodell and Sam whatshisname was just too harsh once it got out into the public. Never ever put anything in an email, a tweet or anything else that might be construed as over the top.

My only real regret about all of this is that it's too bad all this couldn't have happened before we played them.
