Would you take him in the later rounds if he's available, or would you stay away all together? This team needs to hit on some draft picks for once. With all the other "needs" we have, I'd look elsewhere to fill roster spots. What's your thoughts?
I would definitely take him. The only real questions is when. If I thought he would be out for the season and back next year at 100%, I could see taking him in the 3rd round. If things appear more grim, I would obviously wait longer.
there is supposed nerve damage in the foot and ankle, just dont know enough to speculate, if there was no nerve damage, and he's going to redshirt his rookie year id say 3rd round, but we dont know.
Depending on his medicals, later rounds absolutely. The deeper you get into the draft the more it becomes a crapshoot anyway.
6th or 7th rounder? Of course, those guys rarely contribute anyway. I don't know why people don't use those pick on high talent character and injury risk types, the risk-reward is off the charts
If there's a good chance he'll be back to 100% in a year or two, I'd take him in the 2nd. We're not winning the SB anyway this year, but he'd be amazing at LB if he does get back to full capacity. Otherwise, gotta be a really low round pick.
The real problem is the possible nerve damage, imo for us, in our position, he would only warrant a late round pick, if that, he may never be the same player unfortunately, and we are in need of players now.
Reminds me a lot of Sean Spence's brutal knee injury as a rookie during a Steelers preseason game. Took a couple years, but he's back in pretty close form to what he was. I'd take him in the 5th, probably the 4th too.
With the information we have at the moment I agree with no higher than a 4th. To me 1-3 round draft picks are impact players right away in some capacity where 4th rounder and on are more developmental players. Not that later rounds cant be impact players just playing the odds.
5th or later, yes. If we had a really solid team and were just drafting for depth, I may get bold and take him as high as the 3rd. But we don't, and we need the guys taken early to all contribute in 2016 and to do well. Not only is Smith redshirting the coming season, he may never come back at all. That's a risk some teams may be willing and able to take, but not Miami.
I believe that even if they think he will miss a year, he would go before the end of day 2. But if they are afraid it's more than that...
I'd take him in the early 4th, earlier if the prognosis improves. Definitely try to have team doctors check him out.
I'm with you on this. Only a 6th or 7th because of the risk-reward. The last thing we need is a third rounder or higher who never sees the field because he's always hurt.
If healthy, he would have been my number one choice for the dolphins first rounder. I would still spend a third to get him. ITs a gamble on greatness
Nah - they’ll probably bring in Gilmore instead. One more high priced DB will change things around for this team.
