Poor brissett. Played his *** off down the stretch only for the refs to swallow their flags and then the defense just to give up at the end of OT.
Yeah, but the defense just gave up 60 yards in 2 plays here in OT. That safety though, and the missed FG essentially cost us the game at the end of the day. Combined with the refs swallowing theri flags on those DPI calls here in OT
The damage is done, well beyond this season, by trading away our top 10 draft pick. It's critical to get Grier out of there before he destroys another draft though. I'm torn on Flores too. He has failed in an epic way to establish any offensive system and the defense is good but not great.
Plenty of blame to go around. If only it was one thing, it could be corrected. Unfortunately, this team is a hot mess.
I get it, but I dont know. I watched an offense battle back to redeem themselves only for the defense to absolutely lay down in OT. TOP wasn't too lopsided, less than 7 minutes difference most of that likely the last drive there in OT, but that's not an excuse they should have. They flat out blew it, 60 yards in 2 plays? You can't pin that on the offense; especially when they really shoulda had the ball at the 1 if the refs actually did their jobs on the Fuller play. Offense is hamstrung without a QB right now and without an OL. The two useless OC's aren't helping either. Without that safety; different game maybe. At the end of the day though, when you hit OT it's a new game and the D did a whole lot of nothing in OT.
Our pass protection held up better than last week, and yet, where were the plays? Where was the separation? Where was the explosiveness we were supposed to see? Is this it?
I don't see many good plays being called out there to get guys open. We have no identity; no scheme, no way to actually build a gameplan around a star on offense. You can watch other offenses and get an idea for what they're trying to do, how they're getting guys open to get the ball in theri hands. Ours just looks like theyre grasping at straws and hoping it works with no real rhyme or reason to it. There's no scheming to get certain guys open, no route combos to take advantage of that. It's just... mindless and boring.
hard to have an identity and build around something when you have one of the worst OL’s and QB’s in the NFL.
Clearly you missed the wildcat schemes to put the ball in the hands of our most explosive player Malcolm Brown! /s
It's not just the OL though. Even when it held up we rarely made any plays. We're supposed to have receivers who can get separation. When the OL holds up a play was supposed to be available. I'm amazed how many pass plays for Gaskin were called. We've got a ton of true receivers. Get them running. Clearly the plan wasn't to have no OCs. We lost one, then Gailey came in, then he left - none of that can have been the plan. It feels like this team is being held together by duct tape.
There is enough talent that they should be to come up with some kind of a game plan to at least be threatening once in awhile. It took them catching every break and Brissett making things up as he goes to get that TD and before that it was just nothing. Brissett isn't a good QB but he isn't quite bad enough to for me to be able to throw my hands in the air and feel like thats the best we could do
On a related subject- the Raiders had a few 10+ yard plays at the end of overtime- what was Gruden doing?!? We knew it was a run, they knew we were playing to strip the football....yet he kept running it anyway. As good as we are at stripping footballs, they should have kicked the field goal 3 minutes sooner.
