Receivers to blame -- or coaches?

The sports press is all over the receivers for not getting separation from defensive backs. Two possible reasons for that occur to me -- either the receivers don't have the physical tools (i.e., the speed or quickness or both) or they don't have the technique. The former can't be taught, but the latter can.

I have a hard time thinking that Ted Ginn doesn't have speed or quickness, or that none of our receivers have any. This leads me to conclude that, in Ginn's case at least, and probably in general, the receivers coaches are simply not getting it done.

If Parcells is as big on accountability as he is reputed to be, maybe some coaches should be held accountable, and he ought to consider people who are not necessarily in his circle of friends but know what they are doing.

OL...got to get the OL squared away...CP didn't have time to throw, whether the receivers were open or not...fix what ails this team first...then we'll see if the WRs can or can't get open...

I counted a few times how long Chad had in the pocket. Too many times the count was less than 2 seconds. Also...the coaches aren't the ones catching/dropping the passes.

i think both sides are somewhat accountable, but you have to fault the FO for the talent acquisition (or lack thereof). When you get rid of your biggest WR playmakers last year, and then do NOT even address the position in the draft, this is bound to happen.

i fault Ireland & co for not bringing us talent in the WR area. I fault Dorrell (sp) for technical position coaching, Henning for not realizing how poor the OL was playing and call plays appropriate to the situation (short outs, etc), and of course the receivers themselves for not getting the separation, dropping the balls, etc.

everyone's accountable at some level.

Bring in Roy Williams or Anquan Boldin. Either could be attained if the trading price was right.

I think it kinda goes back to the rebuilding process. I think they knew how thin they were at WR, but decided to start with Offensive and Defensive lines as first priority.

Now if they dont address the WR position THIS offseason, we grab our pitch forks.

I think perhaps the one thing failing to come up in this discussion is how good the Jets secondary is. Even tho I'll have to wash my hands after typing this they are a very good unit and shut our guys down.

I think I'll reserve my opinion about our WRs until we've played more than one game. I don't mean this as a knock on anyone, I just think that we're a young team, and we need to wait and see how these guys respond next week against the Cardinals. I'll admit those guys played like garbage against the Jets, but it's only one game, fellas.

Oh... I forgot there was a topic of this thread.

I think the blame falls on the WRs, and not the coaches. At least, at this point. For the most part, the wideouts played well in the preseason. It just seemed that against the Jets, they regressed. It was like they hit a full-speed game and they forgot how to run routes.

Especially Ginn. The guy is uber-talented, but he needs to learn to pin his ears back, get tough against the cornerbacks, and start running routes like he has a purpose. Right now, he looks tentative. That's not good.

The WR's are getting a lot of blame; and maybe rightfully so. But there may be an asterisk next to that.

The Jets said Pennington doesn't have the arm strength the throw to the outside part of the field; so all they had to defend was the middle of the field. Ironically the TE's had the big day against the Jets. Why would that be? I am not sure, but it could be a couple of things.

    1) Fizano (sp?) is that good? Probably, but Martin had a catch or two as well.
    2) Maybe the Jets paid more attention to the WR's and that left the middle open.

Not sure, I don't have a copy of the game or expertise to tell. Just a thought.

EDIT: Who says Ginn lacks Speed? I heard quotes like 'World Class Sprinter' when he was in college. He may lack quickness, i don't know, but I don't think you can logically say he lacks speed.
