That's our new reality! Scary that some things are inevitably going to become unwatchable at some point. I've even considered that with my DVDs. Eventually, my Playstations (which have been my DVD/Bluray player for years) will break, and if they aren't making players any longer, the hundreds of movies that I have on disc won't mean much.

There are already well known movies that aren't being printed for purchase any more, like what might have happened to the one that you wanted to see. I have several TV shows on disc that aren't available to stream anywhere that I know of.

We need to make a law that after a movie is certain years old if it is not being actively streamed, it should be able to be streamed for free on some academic site.

And the certain years should be around 5.

I can see no logic against that. If its not being streamed, and its not being sold in stores, then is anyone making any money off of it? And if not, then why prevent people from watching it?

Another option that just crossed my mind is your local library. Each one is different of course, but mine has a DVD section as big as an old fashioned mom & pop rental place, and they're totally free! So you might check at your local one to see if they do something similar.

That is what I was thinking, the library system working with Universities.

Unless specifically made for the purpose, all stream services completely neglect movies that are made before the 1970s.

I have zero interest in watching them, however, there are a lot of people out there who want to watch them. And it is getting hard and harder to find them.

    Watched Raya the Last Dragon.

It was fantastic. Animations were incredible and the story itself was touching.

One of my favorite animated movies ever.

A lot of people have been critical of certain aspects of the film (not going to share here) but you look beyond that it's a beautiful and touching film with a powerful message.

I want to say that I saw a trailer for it the last time we went to the movies, which would have been November of 2019. It looked great then, and I imagine that spent time perfecting it during the pandemic. My family is probably going to join Disney+ soon, so we'll watch it eventually when its free on there.

I plan to go see it next Friday. Still a little wary about going to the cinema, but Alamo lets you pick your seats, so I can pick a show that isn't crowded and sit away from everyone else with a little luck.

I probably will keep my mask on too. The theater is cool enough that my glasses shouldn't fog over. That's been a huge issue for me lately being outside I'm the heat and humidity.

Watched The Suicide Squad on HBOMax.

It is a very fun movie. Though I thought it was too long.

It is very bloody with many parts that will make you chuckle. I wouldn't say it is laugh out loud funny with a side character.

This movie does a much better job of living up to its name.

Funny part is even though I really like the Harley Quinn moments, I do feel they could be cut out and put in a directors cut as they really felt like a different movie in a movie.

I probably would have liked it better in theaters with a crowd enjoying the movie with me. It is a movie that I think is worth watching if you think you would like it.

It's funny that even though Guardians is one of my favorite movies of all time and I really enjoyed the second one, I have absolutely zero interest in anything else James Gunn does. I guess he needs to be forced to work inside of a PG13 box for it to work for me.

Same. Not the highest tier of Marvel, but fun and solid nonetheless. Solid acting all around, good action scenes, decent enough plot. I'm interested to see where they go with Florence Pughs character beyond just what was revealed in the post credit scene.

"You were never really here". Joaquin Phoenix gave one of his "all in" performances as a tormented mercenary who rescues trafficked minors and doles out revenge with a ball peen hammer.

    Elements of "Man on Fire".

It'll be too violent for some.

I just don't like Phoenix. He's a strange, creepy dude. I think the last thing I saw him in was Gladiator, where he played a character who was just that effectively. But largely, his movies are just ones I have no interest in.

Malkovich can be very good in the right supporting role. Only in limited doses. Thornton too, when he's more straight laced.

I honestly don't think I've ever seen one of Day Lewis ' movies. Just not my thing.

Never saw "Last of the Mohicans"? If not, you should def check it out. Fantastic movie.

He's more famous for some of his more eccentric roles. "Bill the Butcher" in Gangs of New York... There will be Blood, etc...

I forgot I saw Free Guy.

Perfectly enjoyable movie. It is pretty much exactly what you think it will be. But it is the perfect shut your brain off and enjoy summer blockbuster.

There is one line that I think is one of the funniest lines I have seen in a long time, however, I was also the only person laughing in the theater at that line. So maybe it just hits my sense of humor. Still can't believe that was the line read they went with.

If you saw the trailer and thought, "I think I would enjoy that movie," you probably will.

I liked it but boy howdy was it slow. He is fantastic in it, per usual. I know a lot of people don't like who he is off-camera but I enjoy pretty much every movie he is in. I liked him since Gladiator because of the reasons @Unlucky 13 listed in his previous post. He did such a good job at being so hateable in that.

I've been in the movie dregs, nothing has really gotten my attention. Eagerly awaiting Antlers next month.

I did not. As coincidence would have it, the movie came out almost immediately after I read the book in high school English class. I thought that it was horribly boring, and had absolutely zero interest in watching a movie about it.

Generally speaking, Lewis takes roles in movies that I would never, ever enjoy or have any interest in watching. Just not for me. I'm not typically into serious movies about real people.

I liked the pacing... kept it from feeling like an action movie and added to the suspense.

Check out "Den of Thieves" with Gerald Butler, Pablo Schreiber, and Ice Cube's kid... better than I expected. It's a heist and action movie.

Also, "Small Town Crime" with John Hawkes (Deadwood), and Clifton Collins Jr.

I'd think slow and boring would be your thing as that's the sort of QB and games you like. Lol...

The movie is REALLY good. Not slow, with some really fantastic acting from everyone. Lewis isn't a weirdo, or over the top in this one. He made it when his career was first starting up. Your wife n kids might enjoy it as well. Some fight violence, but nothing extreme.

It's a love story caught up in the turmoil of a series of revenge plots.

    You'll thank us.

I appreciate the recommendation, but I'm 95% sure its not my type. Most movies from that era that aren't action or comedy aren't, and I don't like the genre typically.

The wife decided to watch Cruella while I was in the same room. Emma Stone is a really great actress and did a great job in what was, really, just a horrendous movie overall. It didn't really tie into the actual 101 Dalmations movie though it was clearly the same characters backstory, and the plot was ludicrous with more holes than swiss cheese. If you are into fashion, that specific angle of the story was ok, but yeesh, a movie that didn't need to be made.

    Last weekend I saw Shang-Chi.

I really liked it. It is a Marvel film but Hong Kong/Chinese style action movie. Like if you took Hero smashed it together with Rumble In The Bronx and then Marvel action stuff.

Characters are very likable and I really enjoyed the lack of romance. Dudes and chicks can just be buds.

X-Men Dark Phoenix is on Disney+, so I finally checked it out and OMG, that movie is terrible. Its so bad that I'm embarassed for the rest of the X-Men movie franchise on their behalf. The plot made little sense even to someone who's extremely familiar with the franchise and had an idea of what they were trying to do. There was never a point where the movie was enjoyable, or that I felt a connection to any of the characters. I'm extremely thankful that everything Marvel is finally out of the hands of FOX.
