In my opinion, Flores has demonstrated he can win with “less”. Remember his first season? With a roster of no bodies, after starting off with an expected 0-7 record, the Dolphins were able to go 5-4 the remainder of the season.

Last season the Dolphins pulled off a 10 win season, with a five game winning streak.
With Flores’ leadership style and the supporting cast that’s been assembled this off-season, it’s not inconceivable to conclude the Dolphins future is looking brighter than it has in years

I agree, I am completely sold on Flores and his ability to develop talent, find the right schemes and ultimately win games. If we win 9+ games this year, I'd say he's an absolute lock for the next 3-5 seasons minimum.

I firmly believe that Flores and company got five wins out of a 2-win club in 2019. And then they got ten wins out of a 6-win club this year. But I think that we're reaching the point of diminishing returns as far as that goes at this point. Can they squeeze twelve wins out of a 9-win club this season? I'll be very impressed if they can.

But more importantly, I'd like to hope that he and they can ultimately simply get the talent to live up to expectations in a year where they look to be playoff calibre. No Dolphins HC has done that since Jimmy, and his teams were basically Wild Card level. If Flores can get an 11-win team to play like an 11-win team all season, then we're in good shape.

Flo has nothing to prove to me beyond the ability to build on his past performance. I was heated beyond measure when we shipped Fitzpatrick, Tunsil and Stills off. Looked for sure like the plan was to lose as many games as possible to improve the value of our assets. The only thing to remember with a "tanking" mindset is that the coaches and players aren't the ones hamstringing the team - management is. The squad has every reason to bust its *** and either build a career in South Beach or elsewhere.

Flo made sure the players he had got and read the memo about having no excuses. I think the team has adopted that mentality and I can easily see Miami as being a destination that top players will seek out in the near future.

Bounce of the ball, matchups, opponent’s mistakes, unexpected game plans can all go to creating an illusion of a coach who can win more with less. For reference see, Gase, A and Sparano, T and their first years as HC of the Dolphins.

Flores doing it 2 years in a row is a good sign, but not proof. If he can do it again this year I’ll be much happier.

I think it's important not to get too excited based on last year. The Dolphins played an inordinate number of QBs who were either young, inexperienced, unprepared or flat out inept.

Look at the QBs they played who all got replaced or soon will be:

    1 - Gardner Minshew
    2 - Jimmy Garoppolo
    3 - Sam Darnold
    4 - Jared Goff
    5 - Joe Flacco
    6 - Brandon Allen (Cincy)
    7 - Cam Newton
    8 - Cam Newton
    9 - Drew Lock

Not surprisingly, the Dolphins' defense looked great in those matchups, giving up an average of 12 points per game. The team went 7-2 in those games, which almost sounds disappointing when you're only giving up 12 points, LOL.

Then there were these opposing QBs:

    1 - Josh Allen (Wk 2)
    2 - Russell Wilson
    3 - Kyler Murray
    4 - Justin Herbert
    5 - Patrick Mahomes
    6 - Derek Carr
    7 - Josh Allen (Wk 17)

Against these (better) QBs, the Dolphins' defense gave up an average of 32 points per game. Not surprisingly, the team had a losing record of 3-4 in these games.

Slightly off topic, but worth mentioning. Flores needs ten wins this season to pass Joe Philbin, and move into 5th place all time among Dolphins head coaches.

Philbin and Gase both won 23 games in their first three years with the Fins. Tony Sparano won 25, and that's where Flores would also be should the team win ten.

I always felt like the front office let Tony down. He's a good coach and if he'd had better tools...The tools he knew how to use especially we would have had a very competitive team I think.
