It's a very long read, but it's worth it in my opinion. The 1 minute version is that he came from a hood, wasn't in a gang but purchased guns (legally) because that's what you do in the hood to protect yourself. Early in the Raiders training camp, he was spending the night with his grandmother and the house was raided. TV cameras were everywhere as the raid happened at the crack of dawn, so this was pre-planned to tarnish him. Only, they didn't find anything and he wasn't arrested.

He immediately called the Raiders and he could hear the coaches talking about him- they thought he could potentially be a gangster and didn't want that in the locker room. He was eventually traded and told that he wasn't a good role model for other rookies....which really bothered him since he NEVER left his house. It was practice, then straight home to his two young kids and their mother.

Oh, and one more tidbit- Gruden never talked to him about this stuff...not once. He traded him without ever trying to hear Bowden's side of the story.

Anyway, he was angry last season, and says he's coming with a vengeance this year. Lots of stuff about him dominating college and high school, having vision like Barry Sanders and making people miss. He said Flores told him right away that his past didn't matter, just focus on today and the future, and he feels at home now in Miami.

Again, definitely worth the full read when you have time- it's probably a 20-30 minute article. I'm definitely more excited to see him this season now that I know his story of escaping the hood and becoming a father, a man.

Other reasons to read the whole thing are the perspectives on Flores and also Tua.

Long and interesting story. I'm pulling hard for this kid. The additions of Waddle and Fuller are expected to open up the running game but I'd think that other than the RBs, Bowden could benefit the most from playing against zone and single coverage.

The wide receiver battle is going to be fierce. We're going to have at least two trades out of that position group.

He certainly showed enough last year (ability wise) to catch my attention. This story just makes me root for him even harder.

    Very interesting read.

His versatility is off the charts.
His broken tackle rate last year was obscene.
Look forward to him having a role in this offense.
