They feel like they got the players they need to build the team they want and are ready to compete now, year 3 of the rebuild.
Obviously they still have a few pieces to add and they won't hesitate to acquire upgrades, but this it it boys and girls. I for one am excited for the future of this team like I haven't been in decades.

Is it August yet? How much longer???

Two year in a row, Flores has overachieved and got the most out of his roster. Now he's starting to piece together some actual talent and I can't help but wonder- could we really be legit this season? I can't wait to find out!

I'm glad for you guys that are excited. I'm not there yet. I see them as a fundamentally sound team that still has a lot of holes, and a lot of issues to straighten out on both sides of the ball, and I'll need to see them do better this Autumn before I can even think about changing my mind. To me, they've greatly overachieved in both years under Flores so far, and while that's a credit to him, it can't continue forever.

See thats whats got me excited about this teams future. Two key phrases there. Fundamentally sound team: They built a team from scratch, and that team plays mostly smart penalty free mentally sharp ball. As one of the youngest teams in the league.
Greatly overachieved: With admittedly lesser talent, while turning over the roster 1.5 times, they won close games, which good teams do, they beat good teams. They made adjustments and never quit.
That is great, not good coaching. GREAT. And it's going to get better, coach is a rookie too. A smart, talented, driven, confident rookie.
And the team has a vision, a plan that we haven't seen in a while, and they committed to it and are executing it, flawlessly it appears to me.

Now we may not agree on Player ABC or with components of the plan sure. But you gotta feel good about the clear structure and decisiveness and cohesion being displayed whether you wanted an all aqua car or a white one or some combination with orange pinstripes, we've got a nice ride.
And they aren't bringing in Tebow to tryout for TE

I agree that we've overachieved the last two seasons, but what I'm excited by is the prospect that we stop overachieving and start getting these positive seasons by just achieving based off the talent of the squad. Good coaching will always be worth a few extra wins but good talent raises the floor.

Perhaps. But they're going to need to be able to turn the young players that we have on offense into quality performers. That hasn't happened yet. And that's happened very little with this franchise since Shula retired. So, I'm taking it slow.

Overall team success (or failure) hinges mainly on Tua, IMHO.

No Fitzmagic to bail him out this season so we sink or swim (I think that's more fitting for this team than ride or die) with Tua.

To me Flo’s coaching has overcome a talent gap in his first two years. Now that the talent is caching up, will he be able to take us to the next level? So far, I couldn’t be any happier with Flo. I think he checks all the boxes. Probably the biggest question mark for this team will be the development of Tua and whether he can stay healthy for a full season.

We’ve got the defense and added some players that should only make it better. I expect our OL to take a major step which should help the run game and give Tua more time. Fuller, Parker, Waddle and Gesicki could be a top tier receiving corp IF they can stay healthy.

Our biggest problem is the AFC is stacked and the AFCe could be the best division in the NFL.

I completely agree- the offense has to do more this season. But if that defense has a similar year, then the offense doesn't have to completely transform into a juggernaut overnight. They just have to be a little more consistent.

The big thing for me is building consistency on offense. Tannehill had the longest stretch at QB since Marino, but he also had new offenses installed every other year, zero consistency at line, coaches, etc. To me, this rebuild is "over" once we have coaching staff locked in and stick with an offense long-term. Tua is learning a new offense this season and to me, that's putting us behind already. I'd just love to get to the point where we're in year 4 of the same offense, with 9 or 10 of the same 11 starters, etc.

Needless to say, I am extremely excited for the team this season and I'm setting the bar at 9.5 wins just like Vegas. If we reach 10 wins again, there's very few questions left for me on the direction of this franchise.

I'm not sure I read Flores' comments the same way as Kyle Crabbs from the OP's article.

It seemed to me that he was speaking in the context of Grier picking up players now but still picking up future picks. I think he was clarifying the obvious, that the guys they have now aren't sliced liver, they're not looking to dump these guys and move on.

And that makes sense. They're young players but they're happy and want to develop them. He will still look to add more players. He specifically stated these guys were the crux or bulk of the team.

So I'm not really sure, in the end, if this statement is that significant.

I'm nowhere close to being convinced that we have the right coaches on offense, though. I'm very, very worried. But Flores has basically painted himself into a corner after getting rid of two OCs in two years, and I really don't think he can afford to do that again, so we're stuck with them for a while. We'll see how it goes.

As far as the defense, I'm hopeful that they'll be better, but they relied far too heavily on turnovers last year, and a huge percentage of that was one man, X Howard. Hopefully they'll do a much better job of limiting teams when they can't take the ball away this time. I think about half of their wins last year came down to those takeaways.

    IF they can stay healthy.
