I was mad at the pick initially. In fact, I was mad most of the night. It wasn't until the next day that I really dug into what kind of player Waddle is. Once I kind of saw the "potential" he has, I understood the pick and started to come around to it. This team values "football players" first and foremost and that's what we drafted with him. He's a team guy, has a good attitude, a good work ethic, and he's got the gift of speed. If he can avoid injury, I see no reason why he can't be a great player in this league for the next ten years.
He was the receiver I had in my mock with the first pick. I figured they were taking one of the top receivers. I figured Chase would definitely hook up with his former QB and Pitts would be gone as well, but really, either way, I thought Waddle would be the best fit for this team. He can really stretch the field. He's a good route runner. He can attack all spots on the field. He is not just a speed guy. He's a baller. If he stays healthy and Lil' T can get him the ball downfield, he will really open up the O and hopefully give us some of that all vital chunk yardage. What's funny, is watching and rewatching a lot of film on Waddle, you obviously see a lot of footage on Tua and even though I haven't been the biggest Tua guy, it is clear that the hip greatly effected him last year. He had no problem going deep to Waddle and others in college. Yes, he had a great OL and wide receiving crew full of track stars, but he did often get the ball accurately downfield. This year was like a total different player. I know it is the NFL, but regardless of pressure, he seemed to have, at best, half the power throwing the ball this past season. The hip had to have still greatly effected his throwing power. It would be nice to see that improvement this coming season.
Which consensus is that? The overstatement kind from fans on a board or the kind from a front office that went 10-6 last year with a "green" team using a rookie QB that had no preseason? The current FO seems to have a more successful record then the fans - LOL
Story in Yahoo about the Jags having the same grade on Lawrence and Waddle (8). So at least one other team had him as the top WR in the class.
Just looked this up - here's the article - https://news.yahoo.com/news/news/ja...-same-grade-as-trevor-lawrence-212532797.html
