It's almost draft time! A little bit of fun - if you think you can see it coming it - call it! Let's see if you can nail it! Post your predictions here, I'll score/post the results afterwards. I'll start - the Miami Dolphins will make at least one trade in, or back into, the first round.
Miami won’t select a skill position player in the first round, sending Fin nation and this forum into a mad frenzy.
My Guesses... 6 - Pass Catcher (Waddle) 18 - Edge (Paye/Collins/Ojulari) 36- O Line (Leatherwood/Cosmi/Dickerson) 50- Linebacker (Bolton/J.Davis/Werner) 81 - Safety/CB (Deablo or Graham Jr)
The top 3 picks are pretty much locked...although it would make my freaking decade if the NY Jets somehow didn't draft a QB at #2. But pending rampant stupidity, we're seeing the top 3 QB's roll off the board 1, 2, 3. The Falcons will also take a QB at #4 OR trade back with a team who wants a QB. Meanwhile, Cinci will sit tight and grab Sewell or Chase...both are great fits but I think they grab the skill player in Chase. Once we're on the clock, it gets interesting because Pitts is still sitting there, but the phones are also ringing from teams who want whoever's left from Justin Fields & Mac Jones. The smart move would be to trade back, possibly with the Pats even, and I think that's what we do. So no Pitts, no Sewell, Smith or Waddle (for now). We move back in the late-teens or early 20's plus a haul of other picks. Who do we end up with? I think it's Waddle or Smith after a long chess match...possibly we move back up (AGAIN) to get one of them. It's hard to predict though because there will be 4 or 5 teams behind us that really want to draft the sole remaining "top tier" QB. This draft gets thin on talent awfully quick so I think teams are going to be much more aggressive than normal. To recap, picks 1-4 are QBs, then Chase, then another QB by someone other than Miami. That effectively screws everyone's board so I have no idea what happens next. The key to this madness is the Bengals sitting tight at #5...so that's what I'm rooting for the most!
For those who are interested, I'll have my full 3-round mock draft up in a few hours. As for Miami's plans at 6, I believe the FO's simplified draft board goes something like this: 1A. Kyle Pitts 1B. Ja'Marr Chase 2A. Penei Sewell 2B. DeVonta Smith/Jaylen Waddle (anyone's guess) 3A. Trade down My projection? Pitts at 4, Chase at 5, making Sewell a Dolphin at 6. He'll most likely move to RT with Robert Hunt kicking inside and Solomon Kindley shifting to the left side, where he has experience. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a move up from 18 to acquire DeVonta, should he slip (15 could be a sweet spot right before the Cards pick). However, I really don't see him getting by the Giants, so don't get your hopes up. As for 18, we have so many options that it's almost a case of choice paralysis. Rashod Bateman makes a strong case at that juncture -- particularly if Sewell is the guy at 6. Here's the thing, though: I don't think Bateman gets there, and if he does, Tennessee is going to be busting down the door with an offer. Hell, they might even leap us to get it done. At 17, the Raiders have made it known that they're open to a trade-down. Anyway, Tennessee is all over Bateman; he's a perfect fit in that offense, and they absolutely have to replace Jonnu Smith and Corey Davis' production somehow. Expect them to get aggressive. That said, one way or another, I think we're going to end up drafting Georgia's Azeez Ojulari. Be it in a trade-back scenario or straight-up at 18, I think he's the target. Here's a solid analysis of Ojulari as a scheme fit in the Flores defense. It's just one of those matches that feels inevitable.
Assuming Pitts is gone at 6, if not he's the pick. 6-Sewell 13-Trade up from 18 Micah Parsons 36-Williams, Ettienne 50-Elijah Moore, maybe Nico Collins 81-Josh Myers C Double up on C in 5th w/ Kendrick Green Double up on RB in 7th or maybe a trade up into 6th for Trey Sermon or Chuba Hubbard and find a DT in there somewhere My other prediction is that out of our 4 picks in top 50, 2 of them will be picks we never saw coming
My only prediction is despite all of my hopes and prayers the Dolphins will select players I didn't anticipate, at all, thus leading me to be totally disenfranchised. Only to come back around on opening day rooting for them all like no other. Happens every. Single. Year.
I just hope we dont reach on the 6th pick like we did with our 5th pick last year... If we want smith, lets see if he falls at 18.. hes not Julio and we shouldnt draft a receiver that high unless we know he can be Julio..
I predict the following: 1) The Draft will begin on time! 2) I'm going to enjoy every second of this draft because I have no particular favorites. I wouldn't mind getting a highly thought of Center or a later pick QB, in keeping with improving weaker areas, adding depth and controlling our cap. 3) I'm going to enjoy the false death throes of many "Lemmings" squirting their "Lemming" juices and depositing their "Lemming" Drops across the board. 4) I'm going to get to see how much posters thought they knew that was right or wrong. 5) I'm going to be "Gushing" at the FO's wisdom with every one of our trades and picks, as opposed to "Second Guessing" how wrong the picks are. 6) I'm going to revel at the thought of another two days of excellent drafting. 7) I'm going to smile a lot when some negative posters have to eat crow when the Dolphins make the playoffs this season. This is going to be a great way to start the season. I can hardly wait. - LOL
You don't have to be Nostradamus to predict that it will be a disappointing, dull evening for most Dolphin fans, with none of the fancy-Dan flair players chosen. It will be the equivalent of dining with Blackadder's puritan aunt and uncle but without any amusingly shaped turnips to lighten the mood.
Miami will not use one of their picks in their current position for 3 out of the 4 of their first picks.
Chase/Smith -> Najee -> Tackle/edge -> Tackle/edge this is probably what i would do i know no one wants a rb at 18 but meh that dude is legit and a complete player.
I hope not, Trask is a good prospect...he honestly out-threw and out-played everyone in the top-5 consensus last year. I watched him for both seasons since my brother is a big Gators fan and he came a REALLY, REALY LONG WAY. Early 2019 he probably wasn't good enough to be the starter, but by the end of last season he was ballin' out. I know he was throwing to Pitts and Toney but still...he was threading those passes while putting up insane numbers. I think he was 4th in the Heisman? He threw for a thousand more yards than Lawrence. I'd still love to have him in the 2nd or 3rd round as a project/backup to Tua.
I have no idea why he's not getting more hype. My eyes tell me he's the 3rd QB behind Lawrence and Fields. I think he has a much higher pro ceiling than anyone else except maybe Mac Jones, and Trask is a better athlete
My prediction for the 2021 Miami Dolphins draft is that 50% of the forum say that Flores and Grier are running the franchise and making Horrible picks / trades while the other half will swear we just won the Super Bowl.
I'm going to predict pick 6 is Waddle and pick 18 is a defensive player that isn't projected to go until late 2nd round. I pray I'm wrong.
I will explode with anger if Waddle is the pick at 6. Sorry, that's way too high for him to be taken at that spot.
I predict the Jags will take their entire allotment of time before making Trevor Lawrence actually official. Big fallers: Micah Parsons and Devonta Smith Surprise riser: Azeez Ojulari (sp) There will be a big run on OL (especially tackles) starting in the top 10 and going through the mid teens.
