I'm really torn on Parsons vs Pitts vs Chase. Leaning towards Pitts and Chase. If I have to pick(not trade down), I'm going Chase.
Ooooohhhhh I voted Parsons and it could possibly be because I am a full fledged PSU fan. Truth is, I see this as a three way tie between Chase, Pitts, and Parsons. I'm doing joyous backflips if we land any one of those three guys, but since I had to vote, I went Parsons. Sewell....Should still be in consideration, but I think the Bengals are going to snatch him up. Oh....and just to edit this post....If Smith is there and we take him....No complaints on that either.
I thought the same but read a PFF article that brought up some good points. They signed Reiff to play RT and have Williams at LT. They may want to reunite Chase with Burrow. Either way, I’ll be happy with any of your 3.
What if Lance is there and some team offers the Ricky Williams package? 2 firsts, 1 second and 1 third type deal?
I voted Pitts- clearly the highest skill player in this entire draft. I feel like he would be more dominant than Gronk almost right away and he's a name that will be talked about in frustration for the next decade. I would also love one of the elite WR's, but I don't think they have anywhere near the upside that Pitts does. However, that's not what our team will do....I think our GM takes Parsons. He instantly takes a borderline elite defense up another level. We can still play the "pretend we have good receivers when they're healthy" game and actually win with just a few TD's each week. Flores is a defensive minded guy, that's clearly his preference, and I think the pick has been Parsons all along. I do hope that I'm wrong though because Pitts is generational.
Good point and I hope you're wrong, but like I said can't wait for the draft to come. Last draft the only thing I didn't really like, was the Iggy pick.
Pitts, no hesitation. Then Sewell. Then way down lower, Chase. Then way down lower below him, Waddle.
My preference is the exact order you listed them, with the only difference being Smith and Waddle are even in my opinion.
Pitts is the mismatch player they should be targeting. The wide receiver need can be met later in the draft, where there will be quality receivers to be had. There won't be quality tight ends later.
I put Chase, I just think he's a step above the other WRs. However, I can definitely be good with Pitts - either one are fine with me. I would be really hesitant about Smith. Phenomenal college talent, but that slight frame and lack of true elite speed ... that's just a tough sell in the top 5. I would NOT approve of a LB at 6, that's just too high.
I'm a Chase supporter, but I think there are a pair of options at 6 that aren't getting talked about. Kwity Paye, the draft's top EDGE rusher with the versatility a Flores defense demands, and Rashawn Slater, a blue-chip offensive lineman who can play any position on the line to a high level, including center. There are quite a few analysts (Daniel Jeremiah is one) who are high on Slater, and some even have him as a top five pick. Additionally, I could also see a world where Paye is the pick, given our need at the position and the depth at WR in this class. That said, I'm still pulling for Chase, who I think is a HOF-caliber talent, but we have options!
I'd be happy with Pitts but my vote is for Parsons. Offense needs more help but We haven't had a stud MLB since Zach. As good as our Defense was last yr teams still ran the ball at will on us it seemed and we still can't stop a TE running down the middle of the field. 6 may be to high for some but I don't ever care about that. That's where we are picking and if that's the guy, you pick him. I want that intimidator, field general, bad *** in the middle of the field again. I want the opposing QB to have a little quiver in his voice when he's yelling out "that mean mutha right there is the MIKE!" "Oh God here he comes! AAAARAAHHH Somebody help me! OOHH UFF HUFF OOUUUCCCHHH I Can't breath! MEDIC! I NEED A MEDIC!" So yeah, Parsons please. And then Pick Cushenberry at 18 and draft your princess WR anytime.
I'm starting to worry that's exactly what they'll do. It would be incredibly stupid IMHO but Flores is a defensive guy so I wouldn't put it past him. What we SHOULD do is draft offense at both first round picks before we even think about defense, but I get this sense that he's going to think that the FA signings took care of the offense and draft a bunch of defensive players.
Paye is not worth the 6, just no way. He might warrant consideration at 18, but at 6 that would be a huge reach. Not a difference maker. As for Slater, I hate the idea of passing on Sewell to take the second best. No thanks. These choices would be intensely disappointing and underwhelming.
I don't think the Dolphins have decided who they're going to take. I think they have a few options they'll be happy with and are going to continue to be opportunistic. Maybe they trade back one or two spots on the day. Maybe someone drops unexpectedly. Etc. Etc. At this point we wait and see, except for maybe a trade up from 18. Although I expect that might happen on the day too if someone is available around 13-15.
The fact that they immediately traded back up to 6 indicates they are looking at specific guys, and likely A specific guy who they are very confident will be available. I can't see another trade down unless, say Fields/Lance hit 6 and someone just gives us a crazy overpay. But we are hearing that we had like 4 trade down offers on the table and chose the 49ers, then turned around and jumped back with Philly. I doubt anyone else will match that kind of stuff.
It's going to be a pass catcher. Which one? I don't know. I'm on the Pitts bandwagon now just because of the size and athleticism.
Not that any of the top four pass catchers are an "old" prospect, but Pitts is almost two years younger than Smith and Waddle, so for me that should be a tiebreaker if nothing else. He won't even turn 21 until this October. Chase just turned 21 this month, so he's younger than the other guys too.
OP asked what I would do, not what Grier will do. I am a firm believer that unless you have a rock solid core you'll never get top performance from the extremities. And our core is the weakest link, still. We need a Center, have for years, Pouncey was the best we've had in the last decade, and he wasn't the best. We really need a NT, We have decent DTs but this Defense and every other is only dominant with a dominant NT. Pressure from the inside is a game wrecker. We really, really need and have since Shula left with the exception of 54, LBs, and a MLB that can QB the D especially. Me as GM, I'm picking BPA out of those positions til I know I've got that covered for 10 yrs and then moving out from there. DE/OT, OLB/G, S/TE, and then CB/WR. With a lot of mid round picks going LB and WR
I like Pitts, there isn't another player like him in this draft. After that, probably BPA at #18, but I'd be tempted to trade up to #14/15 to get Smith or Parsons if they slide that far. Then grab the best back you can at #36.
If we could get out of Jones contract easily, I think the Surtain move would be interesting. Well that and had we not wasted a pick on Noah I last year.
A CB at 6 is dumb. If Horn is available at 18 though, that might be interesting, but he probably won't. Also, calling the Iggy pick a waste is silly. IIRC he was literally the youngest player in the NFL and is still fairly new to the position. He's very raw but has phenomenal athletic ability. He's a guy we could easily see blossom into a top NFL CB in the next year or two. Or he might not, and he will join a long list of hindsight is 20/20 guys including last years #3 overall Jeff Okudah.
Yeah, I’m being a little dramatic. I know he’s an athletic freak. He just looked so completely lost out there that it’s hard to see that trajectory. But I hope you’re right.
I think some are overly tainted by that first Buffalo game. Super young guy, not extensive positional experience, no offseason ... hey kid, go cover Stephon Diggs. Of course that was gonna be a disaster. He looked better later in the season.
So first 4 picks will be QB and Fields could be on outside looking in. So if Fields is there at 5 does Cinci stay and grab chase or trade down to Carolina or Denver to grab fields. a. If they stay and draft chase do we trade down for best offer between Carolina/Denver? Or do we draft Pitts? b. If cinci trades down and fields goes at 5, you have your absolute choice of the rest of the skill (not qb) players do you still go pitts? Or do you still listen to potential trade down offers with so many people on the board available?
People have to take age and experience into account. Robert Hunt was a senior in HS when Iggy was a freshman, for example. You can't judge their rookie seasons the same way. Give it three years and then see where we're at.
I think it would be how much they want Chase. It does look like there is a really good chance Miami takes Chase if he is there at 6.
