The Gaytriots get the Niners 08' first rounder next year. Was Joe Staley worth it? Perhaps someone else can comment on that. Point is: I was rooting for the Niners to just drop out of the top 3, then top 5...then I got greedy and said top 10. I think #8 is a fair compromise from the football gods.
Meanwhile, with their overtime win over the Chiefs, the Jets drop from the third pick to the 6th, followed by New England with that pck acquired from San Francisco and Baltimore I saw it on GBN.
Balt is sitting at 4-11 and are 0-5 in their division. SF(5-11) has several division wins. this puts them below Balt.
Good they wont get Mcfadden, and now with the Tuna here we need to trade with the Cowboys. Jones can get Mcfadden and we can get an abundance of Picks and really build this team threw the draft, maybe even a player.
they're still 1-5 in div.play, and 2-10 in conf. play niners finish 5-11, are 3-3 in div. and 4-8 in conf. play.
Pats will get to pick 7th. The tiebreaker goes to the team that had the easier schedule which is San Francisco. Baltimore and SF both finished as the only 5-11 teams. SF's SOS was .465, but Baltimore's will be either .516 or .520 depending on who wins tonight.
At least they're not picking top 2 or 3...something has to go wrong for the pats at some point. Ozzy rules!!
Didn't they get fined their first round pick after the spygate scandel? So they had 2 first rounders & the NFL took the lower one? That's a strange fine.
Re: I can tell you who they're not looking at--Darren McFadden, or any other offensive player! The Pats have age in the middle of their back seven, and if they lose Asante Samuel, they'll need a replacement. Junior Seau, Teddy Bruschi, and Rodney Harrison are fading, fast. Mike Vrabel is aging. Rosevelt Colvin is coming off a significant injury, and might be a free agent. The Patriots have shown vulnerability when running backs, or tight ends have been isolated on their aging linebacker corps, and they need to upgrade. It's their biggest need. If the Patriots are true to form, they'll trade down, and accumulate even more picks. They will remain three steps ahead of everyone else. What's scary is the components they currently have on the roster are young enough to guarantee Super Bowl runs for the next five, or six-years! Wes Welker is only in his fourth-season. Randy Moss has five dominant years left. Unless someone starts beating Tom Brady up, he's got ten-more Pro Bowl years in him. Maroney is only in his second-year. Ben Watson and the whole offensive line has only a few years of mileage on them. The defensive front is young, or just peeking. It's scary. In order to be great, the Dolphins will need to vanquish greatness.
That sucks that they are going to get a high draft pick as long as they dont resign Randy Moss i am ok with it but if they resign him then that is bad for all the Teams agian i dont think they could of had this type of season with out Moss
I don't see it as such a big deal. The Patriots are light years ahead anyway, and they could pull out a few 7th round franchise players this year, so dibble-dabbing between 7th and 8th isn't really a big deal.
Yeah I always thought the NFL should have taken the better of the two picks, at this point do the Pats even care about the whole spygate thing? Didnt seem to hurt them at all. No suspensions to the coach, have an undefeated season, a top 10 draft pick etc etc. Is God a Pats fan? And if so, all I have to ask is why? Anywho, they will likely look at guys like Dan Connor or James Laurentitis with that pick, although im sure they will be working hard to trade out and stockpile some dumb fools 09' first rounder. You know the real culprit in all this though? The freaking raiders who gave Brady the best WR in the NFL for what? Did the Pats actually lose anything? *sarcasm off* Man I hate the Raiders and Patriots. This season was the crown jewel in our history of lowness. Not only does OUR undefeated team now have company, but it was done by possibly our worst enemy, during our worst ever year. Hell, our BEST PLAYER got knocked out for the season during the game. This whole season has just been a shocking string of events, of our sink to new lows and theirs to new highs. Of us losing every coin flip, and them being given every break. Man, I am so glad this season is over, for the love of god Billy please help this team!
Why do teams even take calls from the Pats? They always get the better end of trades and giving the best team in the league top 10 picks is crazy. We are miles from the Pats and them adding more young talent makes it even worse. The NFL should have taken the higher pick as well, that was gutless on their part.
God I know what you mean. Its like everyone forgets who they are, how to deal with them from a front office perspective, how to play them on the field, how to do anything about them. Its like they are the mystery team that just kinda goes about its business then everyone is like "New England who?" after they win their SBs. Maybe finheaven needs to chip in and get some caller idea for the other teams management?
The Niners are mad stupid. They fell into their own hype from the big win against Denver last year so they trade up to get Joe Staley who is good but not worth the pick they gave up to get him.
In addition to Samuels: Bruschi, Vrabel, Randall Gay, Eugene Wilson and Troy Brown are all UFA. Gay and Brown are the only non starters. IMO this will be an extremely interesting off season for the Pats. Moss is going to expect a big payday. He may take a smaller contract to stay, however, he's going to still want a huge signing bonus. Samuels already made it known he wants a big payday. Gay will expect the same, as will Eugene Wilson. So as interesting to watch as ours will be, theirs is going to be fun as well.
How could anyone NOT see the outcome of this trade? New England was going to get a better draft pick out of the deal. I'm not sure what San Fran was thinking, they acted as if they were going to be a Superbowl contender instead of a young team with a lot of question marks. Teams like us, Oakland and San Fran basically just handed the Pats a dynasty that is going to contend for the Superbowl for a good 5 years now, I can't see how it helped anyone but the Pats.
