Fingers crossed that the apparent huge gulf in passing ability between Tua and Herbert closes some this coming year. Those were his best plays and.....yeesh. His physical ability doesn't look much better than Fitz, who's 15 years his senior. I'm really worried that at his best, he's a Chad Pennington type.

I don’t really read too much into highlight reels, except for what doesn't show up. What was a little disconcerting for me was that about 1:15 of a 3:20 video was all about the Arizona game. I get that your best game will be disproportionally large in a highlight reel, but when it’s roughly 1/10th of your season but 1/3rd of the highlight reel I get a little anxious.

Tua will never be more than a game manager.

Not only that, but many of those plays were "seat of the pants/pulled out of the rear end" variety. Almost none of them looked easy or that they were based on his arm or touch.

I love Josh. Really hoping he'll get a chance with Shanahan in SF. Best offense in the NFL, and I think he's a perfect fit.

It's not up to me to give him a chance, that's on the front office and the coach. I'm telling you what my judgement is as of now. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see anything in his build, his throwing motion or his arm strength that says to me that he can be a dynamic, big-play QB who can carry an offense on his back.

I don't see how you can be so sure of that. All the evidence points to him not being a game-changer. You can have faith all you want, but people had faith in Jay Fiedler, too.

I think Brian Flores is capable of winning in this league with a game manager. But that doesn't mean we wouldn't be better off with someone more dynamic.

Hey coach, watch the Arizona game again and tell me he can't ever be a game changer in this league.

Let's give him more than 9 games maybe.

You’re free to judge him now, but I think it‘s a little unfair after him coming of a almost career ending injury and no real preparation for the season. If he doesn’t have more Arizona games next year, then we probably need someone new, that’s if we don’t trade for Watson.

I'm not that concerned with more Arizona games where he & the team scrape and claw to make things work. I want a lot more games where things look a whole lot easier than they did last season and the offense is on schedule, moving up and down the field, gaining first downs and making Red Zone visits. Everything last year just looked so, so hard for our offense compared to the average NFL team. When things worked, it was barely so most games.

So first, I need to see Tua and the offense do regular, normal, repeatable things week after week and look like a typical NFL team does. It doesn't need to be special or beautiful. Once they can get that down, I'll worry about the next step. If he looks like he's still fighting to get to that point at the end of next season, then that would probably be it for me in my personal hopes for him.

That’s not solely on Tua then. That would be nice, to see that the Offense as a whole improves and it should. For me the Arizona game was Tuas best, just fom an individual standpoint and if we see that guy most of the season next year, I would think that we have our franchise QB.

When people talk about Fitz's game was better, he had to make spectacular throws get people "open" many times. This is what they point out. You are right that the offense didn't look easy.....when either of them were in there. That says to me that the talent is lacking. It might be the QB, or the WR/TE's or a combo of both.

Well, my intent is not to prop up Fitz. However, the offense looked a lot better early in the year prior to the Rams game with him at QB, in part because he was just doing a good job of seeing who was open and taking that option, no matter how short or deep it was. And for the first five and a half games, I was really pleased that the offense was staying within themselves and looked like a normal NFL team.

That's what I want Tua to be able to do next. Just the same as Week 1 through 5 last season. Show me that he can keep hitting the open man, take the check down when necessary, move the chains, and effectively help the offense own the ball and time of possession. Make each drive productive, minimize three and outs. If we can get there, then we can talk about the next step.

They were 5-2 at the time and Murray was playing MVP caliber football and Tua kept pace with him.

He also ran for a couple of big first downs on third down and made Budda Baker look like a clown.

I just don't understand these types of topics. Tua basically played half a season coming off serious injury with no off-season prep and no training camp. Comparing him to Herbert or Burrow is silly at this point since they took such different paths into the league. Anyone who expected him to be lights-out last season had unrealistic expectations....Flores made that clear from day 1.

Personally, I was super-high on Burrow but we have no idea what type of QB he'll be next season. Herbert looked great on a 7-win team so it's too soon to crown him either. The truth of the matter is that we have no idea on all three QB's careers.

I get what your saying about people saying he should be lights but I have a problem with people saying he was lights out.Case in point the Cardinals game.An average game in today's Nfl against an average team.
Maybe he gets better maybe he doesn't only time will tell if he achieve a franchise level.Right now not even close.

That's exactly my point though- he wasn't expected to be lights-out in 2020 and the franchise made it very, very clear that they'd be taking it slow with him. There's no reason for hot takes on either side of the argument because we got exactly what the team told us to expect.

Now that he's our QB, that's basically the only way we can really look at it. Unfortunately, that's how we should typically look at a 3rd or 4th round pick, which is more where I think Tua's talent lies. Not someone chosen 5th overall.

Let's just agree that it's a good thing that you're nowhere near selecting talent for an NFL team.

Tua was pretty much a Top 5 talent in every major big board/mock draft/evaluation. But you had him in the 90-120 range pre-draft? Ok lol keep playing Madden.

    https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/big-boards/2020/consensus-big-board-2020

You're just suffering from Herbert disease like many people on here. Like people who equate Tua's arm strength to passing yards.

I'm no scout or GM, thats obviously true. Neither is anyone else here. We're all just fans.

And again as I said a few days ago, all I can do is hope that with more time to heal, Tua looks a lot more like Herbert than he did this past season, because the difference was huge. If that's all Tua is going to have, then he's going to have to try and eek out a career as a Chad Pennington type of QB, and that isn't who you draft at #5.

Jalen Hurts had a better season... and was making much better throws on tighter windows... with practice squad receivers and a former qb converted wr.. and behind one of the worst offensive lines in the nfl

That was what I thought we should do last year- grab Hurts and aim for Trevor this season if he didn't pan out. I didn't expect Hurts to play this season though and I was impressed with the playing time that he got. He's still pretty raw of a prospect but I do think he has a place in this league.

    That's the only way to look at it genius;
I am allowed to have an opinion pre draft.I didn't want to Tua and that's the truth. And ur statement of a top 5 talent is stupid!Look at all the top 5 talent Qb have failed.Need I start a list?
I think he was way overrated coming out and nothing he did last year changed my opinion.Unlike ur arrogant *** I would love to be proven wrong because I have been a fan since 1971 so don't tell me it's a cop out!I want to win above all else so go away with your stupid statements!

Not according to the stats he didn't
    QBR: Tua 87% / Hurts 77.6%
    TD/INT: Tua 11-5 / Hurts 6-4
Not saying that Tua had a great year though, although I must have forgotten that he was throwing to Jerry Rice and the Marks Brothers instead of practice squad receivers with 2 converted QB's

Hurts is so good that every mock draft has Philly trading up to take a quarterback in the first round. Nobody watched the last couple of games he played I guess where he looked completely lost. lol

Hahahaha!! Yeah, who's lost, bro? Hurts looked lost? So then, what did Tua look like when he got pulled twice for looking uh......lost? Did he look lost getting sacked 6 times and again...pulled twice? I guess you didn't watch those games. ...and it's not like just about every person in sports media is discussing whether or not the team will trade for Watson or speculating on them taking a QB. Sure, dude.
