Not sure if the guy on the right is Chris Sims or whoever he is but he hits on my thoughts going into the draft regarding Tua. It still pains me that we passed on Herbert.

Of course we need a backup, LOL. And of course it's not going to be a rookie (maybe at QB3, but not QB2). I'm hoping Fitzpatrick is back for another season just because I love the guy, but I think this will be Tua's season to really step into the role and own it.

Tua's major weakness last season was hesitation while playing safe, which I think is partially from the injury, the situation last year with Fitz guiding him and simply wanting to play mistake-free football. Maybe he never just "owned" the role like he should have...that's my gut feeling anyway. To reply to the video, I don't know if he'll never be a "Herbert or Burrow", it's tough to say at this point, but I think the big hurdle is for him is mental.

I mean, look at Tannehill and how many of us said he just didn't have it. The kid clearly had it the entire time but he couldn't get out of his own way mentally to fully own it on the field. I really think that this is a similar situation and we will see some strides in year two.

That was the first time that I had heard anything from the media that reinforces my long held suspicion that Tua was a Ross pick. Stands to reason, Herbert is still on the board and you pick the undersized kid in the hospital gown. That's not a solid football move. I wonder if Ross looks at the 10-6 record and thinks, Oh yeah, see, I was right.
Three of those wins were against teams that are picking 1 and 2 in the draft. We could very easily have been 7-9.
There are lots of unanswered questions about the QB position. Personally, I think Ross is still writing the script and is the driving force behind naming Tua the starter without competition. Forget about Watson, not gonna happen.
At this point the best we could hope for is that Fitzpatrick comes back, baring that, who they get as the veteran mentor.
