Are they a playoff team this year? (All depends on QB/QB play). Veteran QB - if Fitz is gone, who do the Dolphins bring in? 3rd pick? (Probably receiver - Chase) Pursue Aaron Jones? Who's out? (Karras, McCain)
My ideal draft would be(assuming no trades): 3. Chase 18. Collins 36. Moehrig 50. Javonte Williams 81. Weaver or best available pass rusher Resign Karras. Let McCain go. Sign Corey Davis, a veteran QB and some DL depth. They should be a playoff team this year and I’m hoping Tua makes some major strides and can stay healthy. Our OL should make some major strides with a full off-season and that will help a lot of issues we had offensively. Add some pieces to our defense via the draft to make it elite and hope with the playmakers added on offense and Tua’s development, we’re positioned to make a run in the playoffs. I still think we’re 2 seasons away from being a super bowl contender.
They need to put a winner on the field. Personally, I'm projecting something like this: Draft 1.3: Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon 1.18: Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa 2.4: Najee Harris, RB, Alabama 2.18: Creed Humphrey, OC, Oklahoma 3.17: Hamsah Nasirildeen, S, Florida State FA Aaron Jones, RB, Green Bay Packers Curtis Samuel, WR, Carolina Panthers Deatrich Wise, DE/DT, New England Patriots Adam Butler, DE/DT, New England Patriots Trades With Sewell coming in, I think Robert Hunt gets moved for a 3rd. Miami needs more mid-round picks, anyway. I think the team will sell high on Gaskin, moving him for a 4th or a 5th--essentially what Breida went for last year--in an effort to reinvent a backfield that has been sub-par for far too long by doubling down in FA and the draft. Other than this, I'm sure the team will sign a couple guys to 'prove-it' deals (Jarrad Davis, John Ross, etc.), and I wouldn't be surprised if they make a run at J.J. Watt or Jadeveon Clowney.
I hope we don't do that. We need to draft at least one and hopefully 2 WRs in the first couple rounds.
Certainly one, and I agree, it should be early. I just don't know if our FO thinks the same. There's an argument to be made that talented pass catchers ≠ significantly increased chance of SB wins without an elite QB; this is especially true recently. I think the game may be going through a bit of an evolution as far as defense, becoming multiple, and defending the pass goes, and I'm not sure offenses have caught up yet. That's not to say that good receivers won't help--especially with a young QB in the mix--but that it may not be impactful enough to be worth investing in without a Rodgers, Wilson, or Mahomes type throwing to them. I could see a world where Flores is comfortable going into the season with Parker, Williams, Samuel, Gesicki, Bowden, and a pair of talented pass-catching RB's. Personally, I'd love to see us draft Chase. I think he's a generational talent. But, so is Sewell, so in my mind, we can't go wrong between the two.
I'm hoping the FO gets a chance to look at Hurns and Wilson before the draft and free agency to see if they've been staying in shape. Not saying they are the solution but its easy to forget they're both under contract. Well, Hurns signed a 2 year extension in 2019 and Wilson signed a 1 year in 2020.. so maybe they're both FAs? How does opting out play into contracts?
