The real player Miami should be interested in from Houston should be JJ Watt as a 3rd down pass rusher.

Is he not what Miami really has a need for? I'm tired of seeing quarterbacks have all day to throw on 3rd and longs and have success.

A low round pick performance based pick will probably get it done.

And, before people on here google his stats and see he only had 5 sacks last year, I'm not talking about him as an every down player anymore.

I wouldn't pay much. He's getting up there and prone to injury.

For a third round pick JJ Watt would be our best linebacker

Van Ginkel Lawson and Ogbah would have an easier time out there....

It makes everyone just a tiny bit better.... and Van Ginkel and Ogbah are already really ****ing good.

easy decision..... Plus Watt is a beast against the run...

    A hundred times... yes.

He has one year left at $17.5M. Pass at that price. If I'm him, I'm making the Texans cut me and going with free agency. Not renegotiating for a trade.

    We have the cap...

No reason not to send the Texans a third round pick

This draft we are going after a RB ( Harris or Etienne) and a Wideout ( Smith, Waddle, Chase, Bateman, Moore )

We are going to give Tua a center ( Humphrey ) and the elite weapons he needs to be a star.... It makes no sense not to go get Watt to be a difference maker for us for the next 2-3 years.

Yes Watt has lost a step... He is still a better than average player and his next contract will be affordable

Trade for him.... extend his contract.... Period.

    Slightly left of center
If they wanted to do something like this they would be better served bringing back Cam Wake for 15 snaps a game. Same end result, WAY cheaper price tag and an instant RESPECTED locker room / practice leader

JJ is an all pro and a great citizen, but not a good fit for this team

JJ Watt is not just another player though- he's been the face of that franchise for a very long time. Trading or cutting him would be devastating for that city and I think the only way he leaves is by requesting a trade. He probably has more pull in that building than the coaches or even the owner.

Not for me. Cost outweighs the potential reward at this point. He's not the kind of player we should be looking at to improve. A few years ago; sure. Now, I don't think so. I get your point because he fills a huge need for us, but I just don't think it's practical to bring him on giving up a pick and taking on a salary. He would be a huge asset for PR and locker room purposes though for our young team. Just can't justify spending draft capital (even if a low pick) and cap space on a guy at the end of his career.

JJ Watt is a great fit for the team. He is the type of player that fits well in the Dolphin's defense. Wake is not the type of pass rusher the Dolphins need.

    We have the money....

It is short term and does not create dead cap

Watt would instantly fix the gaping hole against the run and he would be our best pass rusher...

Yes he has lost a step... Still can play inside or out... 3-4 or 4-3

He is exactly the type of Player Flores loves... Versatile, smart, great motor

$17.5M and a 3rd is too much. $17.5M and no pick is too much. Any extension would include guaranteed money which means dead cap if he doesn't make the full contract. Huston is currently $17M over next years cap, without the cap hit of trading Watson. Watt's contract is one of the few that has significant savings with him being cut or traded. So, while I absolutely believe they'd take a third, it'd be stupid to offer it. They're going to have to cut him or rework his contract, and they're about to rebuild, not the time to extend aged players. No one is paying him 17.5M next year. Which means the most likely outcome is him being cut. All of this is obviously my opinion, and Huston does wierd things, so maybe they let him play out. But, I cannot see the Dolphins front office over paying that much. I can see him feeling that Miami's D is a good fit and coming here as a free agent.

In my humble (hah!) opinion.... that would make a lot more since than taking on his present contract.... with that kind of money we could find more than one capable substitute for a few more positions. (I still ain't satisfied with all of the biguglies on the O Line!) If he wants to play for the love of the game as well as some more pecuniary value, that is all and well. For a very heavy hit in the payroll - I don't think so.

I agree with part of that OP, "Forget about Watson".. FORGET ABOUT WATSON.
Draft Najee and an elite WR and, if we don't make the post season next year then forget about Tua.
Forget about Watt, draft somebody younger, hungrier and, cheaper. Build through the draft.
Draft a 2nd round QB and have Marino make the pick. He should know what to look for.

Yes I want them to continue to draft well... That being said

We cannot fill all of our needs all at once and some draft picks do not pan out... even top prospects.

Because we have the money... Watt is a short term solution... This makes sense. We need to take advantage of the years where Tua makes a million dollars a year instead of 45!

So Yes absolutely draft Harris, Moore, Humphrey, Bolton..

Trade back with the Lions and get additional picks in this draft and in the next one.

I am all for signing a wide receiver this offseason.... Davis or Robinson... Draft Moore Bring in Harris or Etienne... Add Humphrey to be a monster on the inside of the offensive line... Bolton is a quality MLB and that is a position we have a desperate need.

Signing Davis to a 3 year contract takes advantage of the affordable years for Tua... Watt for the next 2 seasons would be a much needed run stuffer that can play multiple roles.

To those that think he might be looking at getting cut work the trade with the Texans on the condition he reworks his contract with Miami and we save a little money and he gets an additional 1-2 years on his contract... This is a win win for everyone.

Watt is great against the run... I want him out there to stop the runs as much as pass rush on all downs.

Might want to keep an eye out for Bernadrick McKinney. He's pretty likely to be available with the Texans hiring Lovie Smith for DC, and the Dolphins were supposedly interested in him during the Laremy Tunsil talks.

He's not Dont'a Hightower, but 260 pound ILBs w/ extensive experience on the LOS don't exactly grow on trees either.

As incredible of a player and a person as Watt is, I don’t see him coming to Miami. At 31 years of age and 10 years in the league, I would see him wanting to sign with a viable super bowl contender. He’s in the twilight of his NFL career and doesn’t have that many years left.

I could actually see him returning to his home in Wisconsin and signing with the Packers

Texans released him outright. Players like Watt have helped the Patriots win Super Bowls for years.
I'd think he'd have a great impact on our younger players as a leader, and also provide a really solid DE for us in a variety of situations in a rotation.
I'd definitely rather see him in Miami than in Pittsburgh, Buffalo, or NE.

Gonna preface this by saying I am not a salary cap #'s guy, but I've heard Big Ben willing to play the 2021 season basically for free. So, guessing his $41 mil will likely get restructured.

Personally, I think we're a quarterback away from being a Super Bowl contender. And I'm not saying Tua isn't that QB, but if we did sign Watson than maybe Watt could be tempted to follow suit. I personally don't think we'll end up with either one and I doubt they go to the same teams.

If I had to guess today, I'd say Watt goes to Green Bay and Watson ends up somewhere outside the AFC East (in other words, not NE, NY or Miami). The Jets are trying to get it done, but I don't have a lot of faith in them messing it up. I don't think Miami is even interested at the current asking price...the only way I see us in the Watson Sweepstakes is for a 2021 1st and a 2022 1st, plus a few later round picks.

I won't lie, I'd love to have JJ Watt for a few seasons though. If that's out of the question, then I'd prefer to see him play a few seasons with his brother.

J.J. Watt is "seriously considering" signing with the Browns.
Sources tell Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot the Browns are a real contender to land Watt after the Texans inexplicably released the superstar edge rusher. At last check, half the NFL was looking into signing Watt, who reportedly wants to sign with a legit Super Bowl contender. The Browns, after making it to the Divisional Round and nearly upsetting the Chiefs in Kansas City, would seem to fit that description. Watt, entering his age-32 season, was Pro Football Focus' seventh highest-graded edge defender in 2020 who has the third most QB pressures since 2011. He would be a big get for Kevin Stefanski's upstart Browns, who have $21.7 million in cap space this offseason -- the tenth most in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Steelers -- with Watt's two brothers -- are more than $30 million over the cap.
