If we are able to trade back and end up with a late first rounder, This is the guy I'd like to draft. Early 2nd would be even better if he could last that long.

Would LOVE to see him in our uniform! I might even consider taking him with our pick #18, depending on the combine, I think he will be taken in the first round and I don’t think we‘ll be able to get him in the 2nd round.

I wouldn't be upset with him at 18 overall just because I think his playstyle is a perfect fit for us and would be great for Tua. Having a big physical RB that is also good out of the backfield would be a fantastic weapon for us. Also, if we trade back from 3 and pick up another first rounder that would also make taking him at 18 better for me.

The thing that has to be considered though is that it's round 2 that alot of RB value will be sitting. I just don't think Harris will last that long.

I wanted to draft him last year... and then Saban got in his ear about possibly being a Heisman candidate and he decided to stay his senior season... Saban was right... but now heres our chance to get a premier back...

Well the good news is that the staff will be up close and personal with Devonte Smith and Najee Harris at the senior bowl. I wouldn't be upset if they were #3 and #18. I still question whether a WR at 3 is a great idea, especially one built so slightly and without elite measurable speed, but the college resume is hard to argue.

It will be interesting to see how the draft shapes up this year considering the weird season, all the opt-outs and other difficulties. I know one thing - I wouldn't mind another at-home draft like the last one.

I agree. I am in favor of drafting Smith at 3 and Harris at 18. I do not think he will make it to us in the 2nd and I think he would go in the low 20's which to me does not make much of a stretch at 18. We need offensive weapons more than anything this year, why not grab two guys that are worth it and are already familiar with and have rapport with Tua? Unless he runs a really slow time at the combine I just don't see why he wouldn't go in the 1st.

I generally don't follow the "I want this player, but only if we can pick him at..."

We need a stud WR and a stud RB. The value is getting the ideal players in our offense, so I've never understood the argument of "overpaying." If you have pick 18, you can take a 100% ideal, elite RB for your offense or take someone else...to me the decision is pretty darn simple.

It's just positional value. Some positions are more valuable than others, and generally you want to spend your premium capital on premium positions. One could make an argument that WR is somewhat high, though generally not on the level of QBs, tackles and passrushers. It's why teams like the Giants and Lions were panned for picking Saquon and Okudah so high, it was just poor value. Go look at past drafts and it's quite rare to see other than the big 3 positions drafted.

Edit: Seems you are talking more about the 18 than the 3 - I don't think 18 is too high for the top RBs. I would be hard pressed to think they are good value in the top 10 (Saquan/Fournette) but at 18 for a team with multiple first and second rounders? It's justifiable.

Csonka will always be my favorite FOOTBALL player EVER. So my vision may be a little blurry but I don't see any comp at all other than the way Harris finishes his runs. That and the all pro OL.
As far as Dolphins RBs go he looks more like Ronnie Brown to me. Better maybe, but similar style.
Perhaps a bit premature but when this old man watches Harris run I get flashbacks to Gail Sayers. That Float/Cut/Go and then Hit. Maybe a little Emmitt Smith too.
Take him anywhere you want if thats what you think, I'd trade your Mom for any of those guys. Maybe even my Mom, she'd understand, team first.

Normally I wouldn't draft a RB in Rd one with other glaring needs on the roster (sorry Ronnie Brown). But watching Najee running - man...

Reminds me of this play I saw a year ago on one of the funniest 'breakdown' series I'd seen. It's over the top, but hey, maybe this play deserves it:

Some of these prospects for 2021 would be well-served to do up their own "combine" type workout video and send it out to teams. Will be interesting to see how many do it.

It's weird they can't get the combine to work.

Not only have they had a literal year to plan and prep, it's an environment that easily lends itself to a bubble protocol environment and social distancing (at least for scouts and execs).

The player groups may need to be broken down and no 1v1 stuff like in lineman drills, but they could still easily do much of it.

It will be interesting to see if colleges do pro days at all.

They probably don't want the liability of non-employee getting covid because of the combine.

Also thinking it is bad PR as well.

I think the Matt Forte comparisons are pretty good ones for Najee Harris.

It's hard to compare Larry Csonka to anyone in the present day I think simply because the way player sizes have changed. He was nearly 240 pound rusher in an era with where the only guys who would outweigh him on the defense were IDL, and even then those guys were commonly only like 250 pounds. Like the modern Csonka equivalent would have to be 280+ pounds.

Harris gets Derrick Henry comparisons because of his size, style, and college, but his lack of Henry-esque breakaway speed puts him squarely in the 2nd round for me.

The only running backs I would draft in the first round in today's NFL are ones who can 1) break tackles, 2) run away from DBs and go the distance, and 3) catch passes exceptionally well (for a running back). The ones who don't check all of those boxes are a dime a dozen and have a minimal impact on the game.

Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley are about the only ones in recent history who come to mind.

I like Harris a lot. He's awesome, but, even though it is one of my favorite positions in football, I would never pick a RB that high.

Either way, the RB I really want them to take is Javonte Williams from UNC. He's going to do some VanDamage in the NFL. He's a powerful dude. He has something like the most broken tackles or forced misssed tackles this past season. However, he is not just a power back. He actually has decent hands and can do some damage in the short passing game. It's very difficult for any defender to take this guy down one on one. If it's one on one in the open field?...pssh......forget about it. Goalline? All day. I would be psyched.

Chase or Smith at 3 and Harris at 18 is my ideal first round. If Harris is gone then pivot and grab another need and go RB (Etienne or Williams) in the early 2nd round.

I really like Harris. One of my Favorites in this draft... BUT
Today (I may change my mind)
    1a - TE Pitts
1B Waddle or Smith (one may slide) if not then RB Harris
2a - RB Williams from North Carolina
2b Center from Whitewater or Creed Humphrey or best Edge rusher

That's the kind of stuff we can use to build a team. Yeah guys have to be able to make plays, and they have to have some toughness, but this kind of stuff is the glue that holds it all together in terms of team chemistry
