This is the week 1 Chalk Talk, from Alfredo Arteaga (one third of the trio of the 3 Yards per Carry Podcast)
Since nobody has commented yet, I'll be the first to say that I've really enjoyed this series and you walking thru the X's and O's. I actually thought during last week's game that I couldn't wait for this edition due to the massive holes that were opening up from team participation...I'm one of the few wierdo's who actually watches the line on each snap though. You had a lot to pick from this week. One suggestion- try to avoid saying "This is the Parker TD to the post" or "This is the big Gaskin run" at the very start of the play. A lot of folks don't get to watch the games and its better not knowing if you're about to see a blown assignment or a huge gain. I also think that you should try to find at least one play per week where we could have done something better on either side of the ball...like a LB/safety missing a read or Fitz making a mistake. The best journalism (even in this form) needs to show all sides of the story. So even though we love seeing the team doing well, it helps to see where they need to improve as well. A cool spin-off idea would be to do "player evaluations" later in the season where you walk us thru what a player did early in the year and how they've grown with better technique/recognition. This is all "petty" criticism aimed to make a great segment even more awesome, so please don't take any of this as a negative. You are doing an awesome job and I definitely look forward to this segment each week since it always teaches me something. Keep up the good work, my friend, and I hope that the feedback helps!
Very good job- I like that you went with positives & negatives this week. I feel like you really have to "expose" Tua the next 3-4 weeks, the good, bad, and ugly however it plays out. I absolutely love the defensive analysis though of coverages and rush assignments- that's next level stuff I'd never pick up on my own to see the true scheme and what's unfolding. So awesome job brother- keep it up! Let me try to provide some constructive feedback as well, just for a different perspective. I desperately wanted you to show Jakeem's TD but I understand why you didn't (he was untouched from pure speed...it wasn't really blocks that got him there). That would have been great to see in slo-mo though because it was so darn beautiful! The same goes for the pick-6 and the fumble scores....you jumped from the score being 7-0 to the Fins being up 21-7. That just doesn't tell the "true story" of the game. There's obviously time limitations on these so I understand why you left those out...but one defensive TD would have been nice to see. At one point early on, you said the Dolphins showed "a tell" of what they were doing and they have to get that cleaned up...but you never specifically said what the tell was. I'm pretty sure you were referring to the LT being in a two-point stance and leaning towards the center pre-snap, but I would have loved for you to confirm that since I'm a fan and you're the expert. Remember, you have to treat me like I know nothing past the basic x's and o's...it's probably easy for you to forget that you're on a completely different level than your average viewer. Great job as always though- looking forward to your next video in the series! Oh, one more thing. I never watched your pre-game video on the Rams. I can't tell you why, I meant to watch it at some point last week, but it never felt like a huge priority for me and then I got busy with life. It's a very cool concept but I just wasn't as psyched to watch it as the main series....maybe because it was from the opponent's viewpoint instead of the Dolphins? Anyway, just food for thought.
Yep. the Tell was Ereck Flowers having a noticeable lean when they gave the look in formation before and Flowers pulled on it. Sure enough, he pulled again.
Very nice breakdowns...I think you get better every week in terms of the game within the game and little nuggets the average viewer wouldn't catch. Thanks for your hard work and I hope you have a great holiday with your family this week.
Great job as usual- I actually learn more on our "bad plays" than good ones since it helps me understand the thinking process of the QB more and those little nuances of the game. I do think you underplayed the final pass of the game though- how was that not the greatest pass in the history of the NFL? I mean, what could possibly top a 30-yard no looker where the QB's body is getting spun? To even have that pass within a 10-yard trajectory of Hollins is a miracle! Again, great job though!
The prior exchange has been removed. Thank you for your posts Sec 126, they are appreciated. I would hope the day will come when we see you back in CLUB but until then, I understand. If someone doesn't want to read the posts, then skip over them. A number of folks post links to their podcasts on the site. The staff sees it as a courtesy to the membership. No need to disparage anyone.
