I wasn’t able to watch the game. Was it more OL opening up holes for him or was he making moves? Either way, great work by Salvon and hope there’s more to come.
Notice in that video you never see him take a single loss of yardage on a run play. That's what you need first and foremost from your starting running back in today's NFL. The run game is already a comparatively inefficient way of moving the ball and functions primarily to keep defenses honest. Your running back's top priority is to make sure the run game isn't any more inefficient. Ahmed is a keeper. Pair him with somebody like Najee Harris and you have a winner.
He's been a pleasant surprise. He's not faster than Breida (who was is counterpart Sunday) but I would say that he's got quicker feet. Ahmed is definitely a player worth keeping around. Gaskin, Ahmed, and Breida make a nice trio and you can throw Laird in there as well. We definitely don't have a lead back in Miami at this time, but these guys collectively have gotten it done all year long. That should also be a huge testament to our O line. We've seen supremely talented players like Zeke Elliott look below average on their teams this year due to inadequate O line play.
It feels good to know that over the next few years, once we have our real workhorse starting RB in place, that if that player gets dinged and needs to miss a game here or there, we have a few guys who can come in and make things happen while he's out. And also to carry the ball late to close out games if need be as well.
It was absolutely the offensive line blowing open huge holes, but Salvon also bounced several out to the perimeter and made linebackers miss at the 2nd level. Just good all-around effort by the offense suddenly deciding that we were a run-first team. So to answer your question, it was "all of the above". The line and Salvon were excellent.
Great reading of the correct holes to go to. There were several options on a lot of plays and he chose the proper ones in most instances. Great vision in this game and the O Line sealed blocks perfectly. Nice game plan by Gailey.
Hes been nice for us but im still taking Najee Harris... and Najee starts Week 1.. ahmed can back him up
I think Salvon has been a revelation since he moved up from the practice squad I doubt that he will ever be a franchise RB, but he has the ability to be a very good backup to our principal one, whoever that might be.
