That's a terrific stat. He also had more than double the number of interceptions that the #3 CB in the league does, with a handful of guys tied at 4. And more than double the guys in 4th and 5th place put together, if you pick any of the eight guys who have 4 picks at any position.

If X isn't first team All Pro, the whole thing is a sham.

The all-time record in the SB era is 13 by Lester Hayes in 1980. It's within reach.

Just barely. 4 INT in 3 games for one guy would be pretty crazy to end the year. Possible, but crazy.

Does that include playoffs? If so, it's really within reach.

The problem though is that nobody throws Howard's way anymore. They are flat out declaring him on an island as the sole owner of that real estate. His most recent picks have come in the 4th quarter...likely when tired quarterbacks forget that they can't go that direction with the football no matter what.

No, regular season only. Hayes actually had 5 INT's in the playoffs that year, and Oakland won the SB.

Single game INT record is 4 held by lots of guys. You never know. Also, worth noting that Cam Newton is the QB we're facing next and he has 5 TD's and 10 INT's this year lol.. Cam throws twice as many INT's as TD's. Go X!

I just hope it's not all for nothing. How many awesome seasons did Reshad Jones have for us on losing teams? We need to make the playoffs. Howard needs to continue his tear. This may be his best statistical season that he has and it'd be nice to see it carry over into the postseason.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I do not care if Miami makes the playoffs this season.

I think it would be swell and once you are in the playoffs anything can happen. Worse teams made it to the Superbowl.

The turnaround this year has been amazing, and honestly next year I am giving my hopes up and hoping for a Superbowl.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves there, lol. Howard will be 28 years old next year, and he's not in the top 250 all time in picks. If he can keep this up for a few more years, then maybe he'll earn a place on the Dolphins Honor Roll. But on that note, I'll point out that Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain haven't been given that honor yet, and they were both a lot more accomplished than Howard.

After Madison picked off his 21st pass with the Fins (the number Howard has, but two years younger), he went on to start five more seasons with Miami and than three with the Giants. After Surtain did, he played a season and a half more with Miami, and then three with Kansas City. He was roughly the same age that Howard is now at the same point.

So, lets enjoy it and hope for the best. But at the same point, realize that Howard is likely closer to the end of his greatness than the start.

Honestly, I don't care either....at least I won't think less of the team if they don't make it. In one season, they've created an incredible elite defense, built an offensive line out of rookies, found their franchise QB and we learned that this head coach is for real. For me, there's nothing left to prove regardless how these last three games shake out.

Without our starting receivers and RB's, I can see us going 0-3 and honestly, I'm okay with that. Yet my gut tells me to expect 2-1 or even 3-0....the best team in the league barely beat us when our injuries were at their worst for the year so far. So if we do somehow make the playoffs, I wouldn't be shocked to see us end up in the AFC championship to complete the Cinderella year just like the Miami Heat. Could you even imagine?!?

But if that doesn't happen, I'm just as content for 2020. It would be impossible to ask for even more from this team.

I really love what the X-Man has accomplished this season. He’s an interception machine! I know with his age he’s probably at the apex of his career but I certainly hope he’s able to maintain a good percentage of this level next season.

Friggin phenomenal year for the man...and our team!

I agree it would have been unreasonable to expect more from this team before the season began, but given where we are now I do think there are 2 things left to prove for this team: 1) Does this team fold at season's end like previous Dolphins teams, and 2) can Tua "carry" a team without a decent surrounding cast.

If Flores is the type of coach that wins when it counts, then there's no reason to be content ending the season 0-3 or 1-2. If Tua is a great QB in the making instead of just an above average game manager, then he should be able to play well with a bad surrounding cast, like many elite QB's do, especially since such ability seems more innate than learned.

I do agree this will be a highly successful season no matter what happens, but I think these last 4 games (including KC, which went well) provide a good test bed for proving whether this is an elite HC + QB combo or just a good one.

The second half of the Chiefs game was a pretty good sign in that regard. The whole world knew he had to pass, several skilled position players were out, and he kicked *** under significant duress.

Missing you're 3 starting RB, 2 starting WR and your starting TE is more than just not having a supporting cast. 6 out of 11 of your starters and all of your play makers gone (if you consider the O linemen as not playmakers). Reasons vs. excuses if we don't finish in the playoffs.

The defense hopefully confuses Cam and makes him into the turnover machine that he's turns into. That at least would get us into the next week and hopefully get a RB or 2 back to give us a fighting chance to go 10-6.

I predict Tua will play well even without all that. If he does you'll see why the threshold for "reasons vs. excuses" needs to be placed a lot farther than some have placed it (though the argument can already be made based on what some other QB's have done). A good surrounding cast improves performance, but you shouldn't need it to play well as a QB. And just so it's clear the argument with Tua isn't about playoffs, it's about the QB playing well.

I hope they are doing some serious work to get Lynn Bowden integrated further into the offense. They'll need him and Mack Hollins to compensate for who's missing this weekend. Bowden looks like he's going to be a player.

Well, you already know me enough to know that I'm predicting us to finish the year 3-0, I'd actually wager that they'll be 2-1 or better but I'm really expecting them to win all three and probably a few playoff games. I honestly wouldn't be shocked to see us in the Super Bowl this season (somewhere Dan Marino is cussing me for saying that, LOL).

All I meant was that if it doesn't happen...any of it...the year was still a success. This is 100% a playoff caliber team that's come down on some hard luck, but playoff teams often find a way to win anyway. Hopefully we're at that point this season but I'm okay if it takes another year.

It's not just Tua though- it's Tua AND this defense. The O gets about 10 drives per game and we hold people to around 20 points on average. So if he scores three TD's or a combination of TD's and field goals to get us to 21+, we're probably winning that day against most teams.

And heck, against most teams, the defense contributes to an easy 7+ points per game. Like MC Hammer said, 2 Legit 2 Quit.

In the past, it would have taken 45+ to beat KC or other top teams in the league. That's not our reality anymore and that greatly reduces the pressure on Tua to be perfect every single drive. I mean, that's still the goal every week....but there's a reason we don't see teams scoring 70+ points in the NFL.

I think you can also make the argument it can work in reverse. The more drives the offense can put together the more one dimensional we can make our opponents.

Yeah, although we'll probably never know who really had full control over things in those years, Grier had just been promoted to GM when X was drafted. He was his second ever draft pick in that role, after Tunsil, and right before Drake. Given that he was the team's director of college scouting from 2007-2015, he surely had a huge hand in recommending and choosing X regardless.

Although Grier has only been in his current role, with clear power over football ops for a few seasons, its easy to forget that he's been with the Fins since the start of the Wanny era, and nearly every player they've drafted since the Cameron era has been with him in charge of that scouting dept.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean that much. He didn't have the final decision on who they signed in those earlier years. He didn't choose the coaches to try to coach those guys up. Being "the guy" now, he got to choose his coach and a along with Flo's input and influence, he got to choose and sign all of the players. It's just such a different structure for him now. He's done a good job.
