Time to find a reason to put Watson on season ending IR!

Seen some drafts of us taking Parsons, Chase, the Alabama WR’s or a DL with our first two picks. Pretty exciting to see what that would do to this team with any of those playmakers.

If Houston loses to Jax this week, Watson might very well be done. On the other side, the Jaguars might be in full tank mode themselves.

Other than keeping him healthy, I dont really see what the Texans stand to gain by benching Watson. It wont help their draft position and will potentially hurt them in FA.

If I'm Houston I'm doing everything I can to NOT give us a top five pick because it makes them look really really inept.

Well, keeping him healthy long term would be the reason certainly. In a totally lost season, losing your franchise player would be even more crippling than usual. Imagine if he had an Alex Smith/Terrell Davis type of knee injury.

That is true, but I think that applies to any year a team is bad doesnt it?

I wouldnt be shocked if he sat the last few games, but unless he wants to sit I dont think you can do it so early. The last thing youd want to do is piss off the one good thing about your franchise going forward.

Well, there's bad, and then there's what Houston is going through. They're likely to just about wipe the slate clean aside from Watson and a few others and start fresh next season. There's really no hope for them, and their coach/GM has already been fired.

If their plan is to start entirely fresh, yeah I can see it happening at some point. It just gives them less incentive without a draft pick.

They won't sit him and tank the last few games when their first rounder is going to us. If they did that, the only incentive I could see is attempting to trade Watson and their 2022 first rounder to the Jets for the number one overall so they can take Trevor Lawrence.

It's a shame they didn't offload guys like Will Fuller, Kenny Stills or JJ Watt in the deadline. Reportedly they were holding out for high compensation (because they are desperate after getting fleeced twice). Will be interesting to see them play Jax - with Minshew gone the Texans definitely have the advantage, but it could come down to which group of players want it more in lost seasons.

It would be so beautiful if the Jags beat them with their 6th round rookie starting at QB, taking over for their other 6th round QB from last season.

Top receivers could still both be in play at 7. Parsons probably gone depending on his combine. Really could get behind a trade back

Texans have one more win vs. Pats, maybe? Browns might screw it up? 2 wins?
So Texans might end up with 3 or 4 wins?

The Texans pick likely won't be top 5.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here but I really hope we don't make four draft picks in the first two rounds next year. We're already flush with young talent and in three or four years, we're going to be making trades and/or extending a bunch of contracts. I don't want to see that happening for several consecutive years. It's a good problem to have because it means we hit on most of our 11 picks in the previous draft, but still...

I wouldn't mind us trading 2-3 of those picks for future high-value assets because we're clearly 1-2 years ahead of schedule on the rebuild. New England used to trade for future picks and they stayed strong for years by picking extra players in the second thru fourth rounds at the expense of a higher paid first round picks.

Even if you end up losing the player it's still great value for any position to have production on a rookie contract.

Also since even first round picks are high risk I dont necessarily think it's ever bad to have more than one.

I can't disagree. That's why I said it's a good problem to have. At worst, we can develop incredible depth and trade the talent that brings the best value.

I know a lot of posters live and die by the draft, but this season, do you think it might be a good idea to see what the end of the season looks like and know who really has which draft pick before jumping all over potential draft choices?

I think it is going to be a long off season and we will want all the fodder available to chew on before and after the draft.

I think had Obrien kept his job Houston may very well have 4 wins at this point. They have so many offensive weapons its ridiculous that theyre not able to run up the tempo like Arizona.

Houston should bench him, if Watson goes down with a season ending injury believe me their offseason just got a lot worse with question marks about his status in 2021. Its already the halfway point, and a severe injury at this time of the year would put doubt into him being able to start the season next year.

And that’s not even mentioning the fact that he would miss all offseason programs, training camp and preseason with his new coaches and nee offensive system.

so yeah, trust me Houston is already thinking and talking about benching him. The ownership and GM will make that call very soon. Watson is their franchise player and they got more to lose than gain by playing hin. A healthy or injured Watson will make a big difference on what kind of candidates will be interested in the job.

I totally disagree with trading off our high draft picks.

We still have holes to fill and improvements to make at many positions.

Draft day trades will happen, it’s a fluid process. Teams will be knocking on Miami’s door once their coveted players start sliding in the draft.

It’s a message board and it would be boring if we were still talking about our last loss, whether Tannehill is good or not, why our run defense is struggling and whether Tua is the answer. Fun to enjoy the moment and think about how good this could get with our next injection of draft picks.

There are a shocking amount of poor teams this year.

But you know what? I'm glad we're not one of them. Success isn't found by being at the top of the draft each year. Let's just hope we've got our QB, and if so, the rest can be found elsewhere. QBs can too, of course, but it's always a mistake when a great QB slips to lower rounds.

True, but it's a lot of fun when it's not your pick AND you're at the top of the draft.

I can find no downside in that scenario.

The Texans just had WR Will Fuller and CB Bradley Roby suspended for 6 games for PEDs. That might lose Houston a game or two to finish the season they might otherwise have won. At least we can hope so.

Losing their #1 WR and #1 CB certainly won't help their cause! They also cut Kenny Stills, so they're down to Cooks and Cobb at receiver the rest of the way.
