It's not just about responding to him.

Fitz is a veteran who can get his guys aligned correctly to counter different defensive sets.

It's not that Tua cant, but I dont expect him to at the level of a veteran like Fitz.

I think by making the switch we are losing a lot pre-snap in the short term, but we might be gaining something post snap as well.

We will see how it goes. I'm not unhappy we are seeing him, like I said I think its imperative that we do.

We know that this is not a Brett Favre / Rodgers situation.

This is Alex Smith / Mahomes.

This can be mitigated by Fitz acting like a mentor and coach to Tua while assuring the DVP's, Gesicki's and Preston Williams of the world that everything is going to be OK and the team won't skip a beat. He's already pretty much guaranteed a monster contract for DVP and there is nobody else on the offense whose career earnings hinge on Fitz being able to distribute the ball.

I'd take him. He's a talent that comes around maybe once every 10 years. You don't pass that up.

Top five pick. It's definitely time to see what he can do. He's had a few months now to learn so we have to see what he's got. Fitz is still there if Tua goes out and gets trucked. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

Na let it live forever.. i recently got called out on it for being very wrong on Tannehill being a lateral at best move from Mariota  probably one of the funniest threads on the board.. i have admitted i was wrong in the middle of last season but whatever

I dont necessarily disagree with most of that.

That said I do expect us to skip a beat in certain situations. The key, for this season not speaking long term, will be whether or not hes making plays after the snap that we werent before.

A little bummed by this news. Excited for Tua to get his chance for sure, but I really like Fitzpatrick as a player, and I don't think he should have been benched until he earned a benching or mathematically eliminated from playoffs. But the coaches are seeing these guys a lot more than we are, hopefully they think Tua gives the team a better shot and they're going for it!

I honestly dont think this move was anything about Fitzpatrick. I think he’s played very well this season for being who he is, and remember he knows Gailey and knows this system. I also think we have a legitimate shot at the division or the wild card with Fitz as our quarterback.

this move is unprecedented. Rarely have you seen a team bench a quarterback that is playing well for the rookie quarterback i cant even remember when was the last time in the history in the league that that has happened. Usually it happens during an injury or just bad quarterback play.

butFlores didnt just make this move by evaluating Fitzpatrick. He evaluated the team in its entirety. The offense as a whole are playing well together. This gives him reassurance that if Tua is out there, who is much more talented than Fitzpatrick, will have an opportunity to succeed. Tua isnt being thrown into the fire with a bunch of scrub players. He actually has talent out there to work with. He’s got receiving threats, decent running back play, and an offensive line that has been pretty solid this season.

So with all that said Flores is giving Tua possibly the best opportunity to transition into the starting role that a rookie quarterback can possibly ask for.

look at Burrow.. hes doing very well, but he also has a pouting Aj Green telling his receivers coach on the sidelines that if they dont wanna use him just trade him. Hes also has been loafing around and putting some terrible effort on those routes. He also has a very average offensive line and he gets hit a lot.

i love the move by Flores. Im not a Tua fan, in college i didnt see any different between himself and Mariota, i was against drafting him but i know hes got a whole lot of potential. And ive been very wrong before. Lets see what hes got.

Wow. Starting him in a game against Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey is a huge vote of confidence for the youth. It's going to be the longest two weeks for Dolphins fans in decades. Get you inhalers ready.

Dude the last time I remember a move like this was when Flutie Flakes was benched for Rob Johnson.

One of the dumbest moves in NFL history. This is obviously different but Flutie led the Bills to an 10-5 season, was benched for the final game (rest) then Johnson was given the start in the playoffs.

Wade Phillips was ****ing moron for benching the heart and soul of the team for Chad Henne Lite.

I absolutely hate this decision and I especially hate the timing. Fitz deserves to remain the QB. We are doing well and in the hunt. This is crazy. Fitz has brought a real spark and leadership to this team. I think Stephen Ross was a big influence in this decision. There are so many good reasons to let the kid sit, learn and strengthen. This should be about the long run. I am really bummed out big time. This is nothing against Tua. There have been several great QBs who didn't start right away and went on to have great careers. So bummed.

    You're living in 2010..
Steven Ross has improved as an owner. They had a plan. They executed the plan. They have a top tier head coach in place that is gaining respect weekly.

I don't blame you for having that line of thinking but it's from the past failed regimes and Front Office setup.

Fitz and Tua have been onboard with this plan. I love Fitz and was ridiculed for thinking he could lead Miami to the playoffs this year and while I wish we had the chance to see him achieve that for the first time in his career, I am fully onboard with the decision by Flores to start Tua. I'm cautiously optimistic.

If Bozo the clown had anything to do with this decision other than being the guy signing the checks, then I absolutely hate the move too.

Well I guess well find out sooner rather than later if we need to find another QB in the draft sometime in the next year or two. In spite of my concerns, I’m gonna hope I’m wrong.

Hey I'm probably the biggest critic of Tua on this board, but I will say even though it was garbage time against a crap team I liked his two throws on Sunday, both were smart decisions and not "easy" plays.

I'm willing to be wrong and hopefully I am.

If this was abut confusing the Rams, then we wouldn't have announced Tua for another 10 days. It's a good thing the media gets paid to write....definitely not paid for thinking.

yeah, they did. I’m more concerned about durability and how small he is out there. Some QB’s can make it work. I was against the pick and have no other option than to hope I’m wrong at this point or it’s another wasted top 10 pick.

I'm definitely not against Tua starting now if Flores believes it's the right time...and obviously he does. Honestly I'm really excited to see what he can do with this offense since I've never doubted his talent. Just hoping that he stays healthy!

Yeah, I hear ya'. I think he did. I heard that he was really pushing for Tua to be the pick. I'm in no way bashing Tua or anything. I just think this is really bad timing. I don't think there is any good reason to do it now, but it is what it is and i will always support my phins, but JFTR. I really hate this move at this point. Oh well.

Dan Orlovsky says this is a bad decision. Fitz was getting the ball out 3rd fastest in the NFL, therefore Fitz' experience is masking a bad OL and this won't go well for Tua unless he too can get the ball out early.
