If he doesn't play because the coaches don't think he's good enough, then yes I'd take Trevor. If he doesn't play because they're letting the hip heal more than that gets harder to decide. I don't know what I'd do.

He has the slowest feet I've ever seen on an athlete. Its painful to watch him run.

I'll be honest, this result has me pretty ready to see what Tua has. I imagine it wont be against San Fran, but I think if we lose next week the leash on Fitz has to be shorter. You can only stick with the "He gives us the best chance to win" thing so long if you're losing anyway.

I dont think its health. If you had any reservations at all about putting him in due to his hip you wouldnt dress him as the backup.

The idea of being healthy enough to come in and play at any time but not start seems silly to me. If there is any question whether your #5 pick is healthy enough to take hits consistently you dont dress him as the backup, period.

I'm a big big fan of Fitz. Love his leadership and love his attitude.

With that being said it's Tua time. Fitz has had one terrible game, one average game, one above average game and one very good game.

He is what he is. He's gonna look good one week and pedestrian the next. With Tua you have no clue. He can come out looking elite, elevate the offense and look gangbusters.

It's time. Fitz will always be someone I love and admire, much like Pennington in 08. But he'd be better served as a mentor and advocate for Tua than the starter.

Not just the defense in general but Noah Igbenonahe was getting burned left and right. Wilson made him look like a rookie!!!

There is still plenty of time this year to see if Tua is any good. We are only at week 4 of the season. Once we get to week 8 or 9 I would then start Tua to see what he can do. At that point he should have had enough time to heal completely and learn the offense well enough to start. Right now it's too soon and the re-injury risk is too high. A sample size of 7 or 8 regular season games in the second half of the season should be enough to tell us whether we have our QB of the future or not before we go into next year's draft.

A papa bull and a baby bull are sitting on top of a hill looking down at the herd below. Jr looks over at dad and says, “hey dad let’s run down there and screw one of those cows”. The dad looks at his son and says @no son, let’s walk down there and screw them all”.

No today our offense was lacking. 5 field goals suck. Had we converted at least one of them, this game would have been a lot different but as I indicated in the opening of the thread, Seattle is a tricky team for us. They’re always close games.

Putting in Tua would have been the equivalent of running down the hill to screw one if the cows. When the team is ready and Tua goes in, we’re gonna walk down and screw them all, but as bad as our offense was today, the problem was the defense.

Noah Iggy was getting burned left and right today. We gave up entirely too many yards to a team that can score points like crazy. That’s where the focus needs to be. We can’t keep giving up so many yards defensively. We need to start for con more Three and outs.

I thought the JVille game would have been a good starting spot, but with that in the history books I agree Denver looks good. Weak team with bad coaching followed by 2 home games against the coast to coast LA teams (neither of whom are all that great). Tua v Herbert would be cool to see. We then go to a suddenly winnable Arizona game and then the home and home vs the Jests. Lots of winnable games in that stretch - time to see the rook can do, and also need Flores to show he can win these games.

Oh lord this is painfully true. Every time I almost forget that bum he pops back up. Plodders.

I admit I somewhat was buying into the Howard hype after being super pessimistic. He's just one of those guys that people consistently overrate for some reason but I am done with him. Cut him and see if we can't unearth another decent back to work behind Gaskin. Too much talent being plucked from UDFAs and low level free agents to bother with people like Howard.

Also, where the HELL is Gesicki lately? Why aren't we running plays to get him open and getting him the ball? He had what, 2 targets and one catch last week and 3 targets and 1 grab this week? Absolutely unacceptable from Gailey and Fitz. Gesicki is our matchup guy and arguably biggest weapon, we HAVE to be using him better. If Fitz can't then get Tua in there.

I'm also a fan of Fitz and I'm not even a fan of Tua, but I agree with what you said here. So Id like to see him and evaluate.

If hes awful maybe you end up with the #1 pick or something and take Lawrence. If hes great, hes great. If hes healthy, it should be time for him to get some action fairly soon.

Like in this single series alone we see Kyle Shanahan in the Niners game tonight calling plays specifically to get Kittle the ball and let him make plays. Kittle on an end around, Kittle on a misdirection bootleg. GET THE BALL TO YOUR PLAYMAKERS!!!!

I blame our coaching for that. I assume you're being sarcastic here; but why is he constantly left one on one? Maybe give the kid some help out there considering he's a rookie and all of 20 years old. I mean, come on. Where are our safeties?

We're not getting the #1 pick next year. The Jets are going to be all in for that very soon IMO. We're not THAT bad of a team either. If we didn't get #1 last year, we certainly aren't this year. Give your head a shake.

Houston will end up winning some games, but they are 0-4 currently so we actually have two chances, even if neither chance is good.

We lost 3 games to a collective 10-1? And we were respectively in all of them. We are not a horrible team. We got a lot of young kids. It’s time to let them grow and make mistakes. I am overall happy with the season so far. I thought we had a chance to upset Seattle but it was a long should. I’m glad we stood in there and stayed in it.

Noah is not looking good so far. He lacks elite speed to keep up with the faster receivers and he doesn't have the technique or experience to make up for it yet. He was a reach in the first round one of my least favorite picks of the draft. I wanted us to target Antoine Winfield jr. instead who is now on pace to become defensive rookie of the year.

Defense was a problem, but it wasn't THE problem. As you said, we didn't convert a single drive into a TD. So there was clearly a red-zone offense problem too.

And while I'm not necessarily advocating for Tua to start, I don't really see what your point is about Tua and cows. It's not certain that putting Tua in will be a problem, nor is it certain that putting him in will be a success. Patience can be a virtue but in this case we simply don't know the reasons for holding him out. If Flores is simply giving Fitzpatrick his shot because he's earned it, then this sort of thing will use up that credit. If there are genuine readiness issues with Tua, then it maybe it makes sense (if Tua would be worse than Fitz). Either way, it's not clear to us what the issue is, so from our perspective we can't say that putting him in would be a problem.

To me, your point here boils down to - trust Flores.

He is referring to the Texans 1st round pick. They are 0-4 as well but not near as bad as the Jets.

I don't think his speed is the issue, it's simply a lack of experience. He is only 20 and has been playing corner for 2 years. Yeah he was a little bit of a reach but he was our 3rd 1st round pick so if you're going to gamble on potential that would be the pick to do it with. It's pretty obvious he is overmatched at this point and his mistakes on the field are really hurting us but I think with some more coaching he will turn into a player for us.

And I agree, Winfield is the guy I wanted there too.

Quite a few replies on my post concerning Igbinoghene...

I forgot that the kid is only 20 years old. I'm sure the game is running at warp speed compared to what he's played in the past. Coaching is indeed an issue with Noah. He may have a lot of great talent but if he doesn't have the speed, then he needs to be a film whore. Studying film left and right...learning the opposing receivers inside and out so he can adjust and anticipate to be able to make plays. Like I said, he was burned WAAAAAY too many times yesterday. We can't have that in the secondary. For years we've had defenses that has put offenses in 3rd and long, only to let them convert and continue their drives. Can't continue with this bed but don't break defense!

Offensively, the play calling I feel contributed just as much to failed conversions rather than field goals as much as some of the poor throws by Fitzpatrick. He threw a number of passes yesterday that should have been interceptions. It just seemed to me that as a whole, the entire offensive unit was "off" yesterday. I was truly hopeful the running game would have been more effective than it was.

Right now, the Dolphins are 1-3. Mathematically we're far from being eliminated from any post season but I agree with what's been said earlier...it is indeed quite possible and realistic we could see Tagovailoa starting against Denver on Oct 18th.

To the playcalling, Gailey calls a decent but unimpressive game between the 20s but without an elite back he has no clue how to put it into the endzone in the modern NFL.

One thing I hated, why even run that Wildcat-Type play early if you arent going to use it to set up ANYTHING ELSE or use it again when it was successful?

His play calls are usually fine individually but they dont seem to feed in to a bigger overall picture.

Experience and technique will help to mitigate some of his shortcomings, but speed is definitely an issue. That crossing route he got burned with yesterday is a pure speed cover. If you can't run stride for stride with the reciever in that situation you are toast without help. Against buffalo it was the same thing once a guy gets a step on him he has a hard time recovering lost ground. His 40 time of 4.48 is mediocre for a starting NFL corner. Even Bobby Mccain runs a faster 40 than him. Noah is quick and explosive within a short area, but his long speed is lacking. His skillset is adequate for a slot corner similar to mccain, but as a boundary corner I just don't see him having the skillset to excel there.

In a COVID world, it's entirely possible that all 32 teams make the playoffs in one form or another. Because think about it, what happens when the #2 seed can't practice for a divisional round? I think you'd call up the #9 ranked team and tell them "Suit up, buttercup....you're in the playoffs!"

This year may turn out to be football, Survivor style where you're never truly out until a champion is crowned.

My thinking on the subject is that he doesn't have the instincts yet and when he does he will play faster. I think his brain is slowing him down right now. I 100% agree he needs to be in the slot right now. Maybe he will improve enough to play the boundary but he can't right now without getting roasted.

Yes, so you keep saying. I don't think you really hope you're wrong, I think you really hope he's a bust of Rushmore proportions so you can give it the big 'I told you so'. Me? I think he'll be great, as long as the line continues to improve.

There's no way we'll get the #1 pick but if we did, I'd take Lawrence and let them both duke it out for a year.

Actually, I'm tired of the Dolphins being horrible, so yeah, I hope I'm wrong. I hope tua has a hall of fame career but I seriously doubt it's gonna happen. We've got two shots at getting the number one pick. Us and Houston. Or we could trade both and Tua for the #1. Trevor Lawrence is the closest thing to a sure thing that you're gonna find. The fact that fitz is not playing all that well and Tua still hasnt played yet, leads me to believe that he's not very good. The more time goes by and he doesnt play, the more I will believe that. Burrow and Herbert are starting and playing pretty well. Somehow our top 5 QB isn't good enough to start on a bad team with a below average journeyman QB.

His decision making, route recognition, anticipation and and general awareness will improve with experience, but his speed is what it is. He is not a burner as much as the dolphins and some have tried to make it seem. 4.48 is not elite speed for an NFL corner. The crossing route he got burned with against the seahawks was against lockett who runs a 4.40 flat. That .08 second difference in speed is why Noah couldn't keep up with him, and there are quite a few 4.3 receivers in the league who could blow right pass him unless he gives them a sizable cushion. As much as some coaches and analysts try to play down the importance of 40 times it is definitely a relevant metric for boundary corners, speed matters.

He is not boundary corner material IMO which is why I was disappointed with the dolphins investing a 1st. rd pick on an underdeveloped slot corner when there were much better players available.

Those are the type of head scratcher decisions by grier that drive me crazy.
