I wonder if they just didnt think the ball was catchable and let it go. Catchable by the intended receiver I mean. I'd have to watch it again but it seemed well off target. Maybe holding though on the defense could have been called.
There are two ways to take this. If you think NE is going to be a top team, it's actually not THAT awful given the circumstances. If you think NE is going to struggle, this was bad.
3 picks in the first week against a defense that lost half its players in a non hostile environment is inexcusable. can we start the TUA era please? Buffalo is going to run us over next week anyway.
Yeah, that's a blatant missed call. Should not have been an INT. What a joke we can't overturn these terrible calls by terrible officials. Likely doesn't matter at the end of the day, but it's the principle of it.
It was a bad call, but being realistic we probably wouldnt have won anyway. Though obviously we would have had a chance vs no chance which is all you can ask for.
I'm thinking Tua week 3 against Jacksonville. Buffalo is going to be nasty, not sure we throw him into that fire, but Fitz is doing what many of thought he would. He's great with little on the line, but expectations just crush him. Jordan Howard was a big disappointment as well.
Anyone who said that was kidding themselves. If Ryan Fitzpatrick was that sort of QB, he would have shown it by now.
I dont think anyone said we were a playoff team. Only that we could be around .500 most of the year which would put us in range if things went perfect.
I wouldnt use Jordan on any situation other than short yardage.. he is not a playmaker, he doesnt have any explosion on his runs.. hes got some power though.. so on down and short, thats the only time i give him the ball..
Our run blocking was a little better at times than last year, which is a positive. I'm not sure if that was just NE running a vanilla defense game one though. On most the plays we got stuffed it doesnt matter who the back was, there was nowhere to go. There were a few runs I thought better backs could have ripped off, but oh well.
I'll also say the quality of football, on both sides, was low quality to a degree. The Patriots were better but if they were really running on all cylinders that would have been worse. Our performance, though slightly expected, speaks for itself.
Oh look, the official ref. Twitter accounting is Tweeting about plays from the game, let's see if they include that last interception, shall we? Meanwhile:
Post game thoughts... First off, the Phins are YOUNG. Welcome to the NFL. Without any preseason, these kids didn’t get a chance to be tested under fire. Granted every team had the same disadvantage but this young this team is, with all of the new faces, preseason was definitely missed. For running backs, Gaskins really impressed me. I think we’ll be seeing a lot of Gaskins and Brieda. I see Mr Glass made his return to Miami in DeVante Parker. Hopefully Flores was just being cautious since Parker did have a breakout season last year but if he’s going to be consistent injured...***sighs*** Defensively, WAKE UP!!!!! If they don’t start covering the run better than they did today, it’s going to be a LONG season.
Weird game. I won’t read too much into it, it’s a young team against one of the best coaches of all time. Got a feeling we won’t see too many offenses like that in terms of style this year. I knew once Parker was out, the offense was done.
I can't believe how slow Jordan Howard looked running the ball. I mean...SLOW! Gaskins on the other hand looked fresh with some juice in his legs. I would not be surprised if Gaskins ends up being our lead back this year provided he doesn't get killed.
With the exception of a few players that looked good, i dont think we have improved at all from last season. Had we started the season against Baltimore again, we probably would have lost by a hundred like we did last year. we were bad out there. Really bad.. about as bad as the Jets were today. We dont have the scheme nor the talent to match up Well against any team worth a damn this season.. We have to see Tua this year. Any playing time is better than standinng in the sidelines. What are we really trying to accomplish by having Fitzpatrick out there. we arent going to make the playoffs.. hes not the franchise quarterback.. his chemistry with chan gailey or the offense does not matter. Hes gone after this season and then why did he play all these games for when Tua coule get in some real work in. Getting Tua out there with Gesicki, Preston and Devante, that actually matters.
Week one tends to be incredibly unpredictable in a normal season, so I'll put this one behind me. If we look this bad next week I will start to worry though.
Gaskin looked good, but Breida did look more explosive to me. If we could do it I'd like to know how the outcome would have been on Gaskins carries if Breida was the ball carrier. Just looked like Breida could have been a bigger factor if he was given the chance to get going. I'm not sure how much Howard can provide aside from short yardage situations. Either way, all 3 are an improvement over Ballage.
I'm sure they'll just gloss over it like they did during the game. How they don't call something on that play is ridiculous. If you dont want to call DPI, at least you have to call defensive holding or illegal contact.
Very little punch in the offensive game today. We need to see more Breida, Grant, and Gesicki, and maybe Tua sooner than later as well.
Howard wasn't the only guy that looked like he was running in sand today. James White looked slow too for the Pats. Maybe it's just early season rust, but I noticed it quite a bit with Howard. He just looks cooked already in his fifth year as a pro. Gaskin had a lot more punch to his game and for the life of me, I can't understand why we didn't even look towards Breida.
