For a former top 10 draft pick, Josh Rosen has had an incredibly rocky go of it through his first two seasons in the NFL. But instead of feeling discouraged, Rosen says he’s focused on improving his own game and is enjoying that experience as much as ever.

Maybe my mindset will change in some point in the future but I’m not really focused as much on winning a job as I am just getting better,” Rosen said, via Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com.

A coaching change in Arizona and a No. 1 overall pick at quarterback by Kyler Murray led to him losing him initial chance with the Arizona Cardinals after just one season. Rosen was then traded to a Miami Dolphins team that was lacking ready-made talent as they were in a rebuilding phase. Rosen started three games but was unable to unseat Ryan Fitzpatrick as a full-time starter.

Now Rosen is likely third on the team’s depth chart after another first-round quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, comes in as the heir-apparent option for the Dolphins franchise. Losing the job to Fitzpatrick for good last year forced Rosen to reevaluate his approach to the game.

“I did a big reality check and completely turned inwards and see what I could do better. I flicked myself in my head like you’re literally in the room with one of the best minds to ever do it — and that’s Fitz — I basically sat there and tried to swallow as much as I could from him and I took that process into the offseason,” Rosen said. “I’m pretty happy with how I feel behind center at this point — I got a lot of work to do but I think I’ve only scratched the surface with what I can do. The reason I’m sort of positive in this situation is all I can control is my development and I think it’s going in the right direction.”

Whether Rosen gets a chance to start again at any point in Miami remains uncertain. He is still just two years removed from being the tenth overall pick in the NFL Draft and players drafted that highly usually get multiple chances to show if they can figure things out. If that chance comes along, Rosen wants to be prepared to put the best foot forward he can.

“I like competing,” Rosen said. “So I don’t really know when or where — hopefully this year, here — I’ll get a shot to play; but I’m just trying to focus on preparing for that shot as best as I can. That’s within my control and I’m actually pretty satisfied with how I’ve come out and played this training camp. Obviously some holes here and there that I definitely need to improve on, but I really think I’m sort of trending in the right direction. I’m enjoying it more than I ever have actually.”

I don't have a link, but Dolphins Nation just shared on Facebook that Tua is #3 on the depth charts after Rosen absolutely went off over the past couple of days. Their only quote was that "He looks like a completely different QB this week" (no mention of who said the quote tho).

Good, I hope Rosen continues to do well and improve himself. We might need to carry 3 QBs on the roster due to COVID-19.

If I had to hedge my bets on Tua or Rosen, I'd do it on Rosen, though ideally neither.

I'm not really a fan of Tua though I hope he proves me wrong. I think it would be hypocritical for me to profess some crazy belief in Tua I didnt have going into the draft.

If both players were in the same draft class, not knowing anything about their NFL fate, just based on my personal evaluation I'd probably take Rosen.

The question is simply if he is damaged goods or if he can improve. Where as I dont really see "it" in Tua to begin with.

Again though, I dont care who the QB is I just want to win with someone. So if I'm wrong I dont really care anymore.

Rosen "looking to improve". Who isn't lol. The guy is a bust, and he'll continue to show it if they give him the chance.

I'm just happy we have Fitz so Tua isn't forced to start immediately. Tua's the first QB the Dolphins have picked since Marino that makes me feel like the team really did something to possibly solve the QB position, but it's best for him and the team if they take it slow with him.

Rosen? Probably worth so little they'll have trouble getting anything for him in a trade. "Looking to improve" LOL.

Rosen should get a chance to play this year. I think that's a fair assessment. He deserves another opportunity. His first two years have been in less than ideal situations. Is he a star QB? No...I don't think he is, because if he was, he would have already shown at least a glimpse of being one (but some guys do take some time). I'm willing to bet Joe Burrow sets the league on fire his rookie season and playing in Cincy isn't exactly the best situation for a young rookie QB to walk into. The Bengals are well...The Bengals and Burrow, like any great QB will have an immediate impact and will be able to make something out of nothing every Sunday. Rosen on the other hand can't do things like that and that is why he's not ever going to be a franchise QB. He'll never be a guy where you look at him and say "ok...we got Josh, we can still win." There are QB's in this league that give you a chance to win in every single game but he is not one of them. That doesn't mean he can't be a starter in this league and it doesn't mean that he can't improve as a player. I just don't think he's in our long term plans unless he pulls a Drew Brees and totally just blows up in his third season. Then we have a "good" problem on our hands. I certainly hope that happens, and who knows...maybe it will. Like I said, for those that remember, Brees looked like a colossal bust his first two seasons in San Diego. The team was a hot mess, the organization was a laughing stock. All they had was LT running the football and they went ahead and drafted Rivers. Well...Brees won the starting job and the rest is history. New Orleans has won a Super Bowl and been a perennial playoff team. I'm totally rooting for Rosen, but I've seen these movies before as a Dolphins fan and AJ Feely is usually the result as opposed to Drew Brees.

They need to showcase Rosen if he is playing close to the level of Fitzpatrick in practice. They need to get the biggest return back they can get for him.

This year is going to be a wash. It's not going to be a real football season if they even complete one.

Thanks for beating New England last season, Ryan, but you're done here.

I dont disagree, except I'll be surprised if Burrow succeeds. I had him rated slightly better than Tua but I honestly dont think this draft had a star QB.

My personal choice was Herbert because I think his ceiling is highest. Burrow and Tua I see as starters but not stars.

The better Rosen does the better it is for the fins. Either you improve his value or you end up with a good backup. Either way is a win.
