The teams that I've considered to be the Dolphins rivalries outside of their division are the Chiefs, Raiders, Steelers, Chargers, and the Ravens. I always look forward to seeing the Dolphins and Raiders play against each other a lot of history between the two teams. Same with the Chiefs as well as the Steelers I have a friend that's a Steelrs fan. We always watch football together when our teams play against each other. Usually go out to a sports bar to watch. The Ravens always tend to steal our picks in the draft. The Chargers we play them quite often and played against them numerous times in the playoffs.
Steelers, Ravens and Texans. The latter two since it seems we can't ever beat them. The Steelers as it is always a battle.
Honestly the Ravens are the only non division team I care about beating more than others when we play. There are teams I dislike more, but the reasons arent really Dolphin related. The Ravens are actually someone I dislike for their (recent-ish) history with us.
The Colts.Wow there were some memorable games there and with Shula coming from there as well as as ex division foes those were some fun times.
Thank you all for your responses. It's been such a long time since the Dolphins beat the Ravens. I look forward to beating the Ravens. I'll definetly be celebrating. Never thought about the Texans I can see why though. Battling them in the draft, trades, and woukld be nice to beat the Texans.
Yes your correct. Being 1-8 agaginst the Texans is bad. I hope the Dolphins can win more games against the Texans.
I'm going to echo a lot of what others have already said and that is the Ravens. I really can't stand that football team and it's only due to the fact that we can never beat them. I was a huge fan of that team back in the late 90's and into the 2000s, but my fandom has slowly turned to hatred since the brutal playoff loss we suffered back in 08. I think that San Diego, Oakland, and Pittsburgh get some honorable mention as well. Over the years those games between us and them have ranged from unexpected blowouts to controversial nail biters. There's always a different feeling when we play any four of those teams...Especially the Ravens....F THEM!
Rivalries only happen when there is a history of significant games between the teams. For example the 49ers and Cowboys in the early 90s. Before and after Shula we have had almost no significant games, let alone a series of significant games against a non-division opponent. We are insignificant. We have no rivalries. If you asked the Texans or Ravens fans to list their top 10 non division rivalries we wouldn’t get a mention. If you asked them to list their top 20 non division rivalries we wouldn’t get a mention. Rivalries are a 2 way street, and no one out of our division cares about beating the dolphins beyond getting the W.
Agreed. You think Ravens fans see Miami as a rival? Lol, all they see is a win. Until this team plays a team in the AFC Championship twice in 3 years there won't be another rival outside of the division.
I honestly almost said this too but I went with the Ravens. We havent had important enough games to have a true rivalry out of division in the last couple decades...
I think its gotta be the Ravens because of everything that most of everyone is saying, and I would also agree with the Chargers. It seems we play them every year and the games would go either way. I'd also say the Steelers because of the speculation around that one Ricky injury and that blown Steratore fumble call under Sparano that I, personally, have problems living down even though it's been like 10 years.
The Ravens are a rivalry but a one sided one.. The Ravens, to me, are a model franchise and I hope that one day Miami can model the team around their consistency and line play (both sides) As for a rival, there is something about the Dallas Cowboys that makes them feel like a rival, even though we play them twice a decade.
I'm excited about the future of the Dolphins. Their looking like a much better team than last year. The defense will be looking better. Hopefully the O-Line will be better. I beleive that Tua will be a awesome QB. With those elements the Dolphins will become a awesome team.
For me its always the Raiders, remember we played our very first game against them in our inaugural season and they have broken our hearts a number of times, especially in 1974 AFC Divisional playoffs. Now my second team would have been the Houston Oilers if they're still around, we've had several epic clashes with them.
I remember watching the clips of the 74 AFC Divisional round of the Dolphins against the Raiders. That was before I was born. It was sad that we lost on that wild TD pass by Ken Stabler. Needless to say the Raiders lost in the next round to the Steelers.
People don't realize or don't know that the Raiders had the choker label on them for long time, from 1967 up to 1975 they were one of the best teams in football, they compiled a 95-28-9 record missing the playoffs just once (1971) in those nine years, but also had a subpar .500 record in the playoffs (7-8).
Id say the Ravens and Steelers for sure, but I also respect those teams and we haven't been in their league for decades. But I really despise the Texans. I'd say we have a bit of a rivalry with the Washington Professional Footballers too. 1-1 in Super Bowls and lots of other great games over the years
So far the Dolphins have been making the right moves. If they keep doing so The Dolphins will be a awesome playoff contending team. In 2021 and the years to follow the Dolphins should be a very dominating team. Who Knows maybe we'll be facing off against the Ravens, Chiefs, Texans and Steelers in the playoffs for the years to come. Maybe play those teams more often.
I don't think we have a real rivalry outside the division...like was already said, you have to win some to make a rivalry. We have teams, like the Ravens, that we as fans don't like, but I don't think Ravens game even think twice about us. Except for Camarillo...wasn't it the Ravens we beat that year with his TD?
For an antique flatulent fan (such as I am), we never forget the games the Dolphins have played against Da Raidahs! And any time we play them, we hope the final score is in the triple digits for us and zero for them!
For it to be a rivalry, there needs to be animus and rancor on both sides. sadly, We are a bug on the windshield to steelers and Ravens fans. Its not a rivalry. i hate denver and the chargers and enjoy beating them but they are not rivals. Our eternal rivals are our division mates, all for different reasons. the amount of miami fans in ny and jets fans in miami makes that our number one. the fact we consistently tortured the pats even at the height of their powers and at our nadir is not lost on anyone in boston. And the bills. we hate them. They hate us. The climates and cities themselves stark opposites, almost poetic.
Haha...Forgot about that! Yeah, that was the 1-15 season. Guys in the locker room were yelling "We're 1-0" and Sammy Knight was like..."Uh no...We're 1-10"
Yeah, I’ve honestly got so much hate built up towards the Jets and Bills, I don’t think there’s any hate left for any other team.
I honestly don't really hate the Bills or the Jets anymore...mainly because I've grown to hate NE more and more each year. Now, the Jets fans- that's a different story, LOL. At least 4 times per year I root for the Jets and the Bills to beat NE and then in the playoffs (if they face NE). My NFL hate easily goes New England, Baltimore, then everyone else that's not the Dolphins.
We haven't been good enough to be a rival with anyone else to be frank. From our side, we have enmity toward the Ravens and Texans, but it's mostly one sided and they generally just see us as another W. Cowboys are a bit of one, mostly stemming from the Leon Lett embarrassment, but they smoked us last time. Colts during the Manning vs. JT/ZT years were good battles, but again not much worth talking about recently. A few good playoff games and we might get something going.
