I've been following this game for three years now. Originally, we were lead to believe that it might even come out at the end of 2018, but that clearly didn't happen. But they're still working on it, and the dev did a gameplay demo with IGN. It looks great, we'll just have to wait and see when it eventually gets released. Good thing that PS4 games will run on the PS5.
Definitely looks cool. Why are developers so afraid to share what's influenced them? This is a 3rd person action RPG with heavy exploration, where your character can glide from heights and with 4 large bosses at each corner of the overworld. When asked if Breath of the Wild was one of their main influences, the guy says no.
Well, he said that they started the game before that one was released. Which does make sense, since they've been showing Biomutant off since 2017. I think that his point was that it was of a similar genre, but lots of other games are too, and that its not just a ripoff of Zelda. And since you can really customize your character to play the game any way that you want, including with machine guns, there's a lot to it. English isn't his first language, so he might have been unprepared for the question too. Either way, its all good. I've been using that style of combat in boss fights in various games for decades! Its tried and true. Go with what works.
I think developers are afraid they'll come off as unoriginal- I've noticed it in other interviews, too, which is why I got on the soapbox. Musicians don't really have any qualms saying they borrowed or were influenced by their peers. I'm just not so sure why game developers are stuck in that mindset. It doesn't poop on most people's enthusiasm in the end either way.
I agree. And as a gamer, I certainly have no issue with lesser, or more inexperienced developers making a "clone" of an awesome game that I enjoyed. Honestly, I wish that it happened more often! These days, awesome AAA games that I love don't always even come out once a year, so if I can fill the time between with a few AA games inspired by the big ones, we all win. And maybe in the process a new series gets started that ends up being better than some of the bigger ones.
https://gamingbolt.com/biomutant-will-be-out-before-april-according-to-thq-nordic After six months of silence, THQ Nordic says that the game will be out by April. Fingers crossed. It'll be one of the last PS4 games that I end up playing, probably.
Looks like it could be a really cool game with a lot of diversity in builds and gameplay. Here's hoping it comes out polished!
From what I've read, the delay was to make sure that they put out the best game that they could rather than rush one with bugs to market. Sounds good.
Sounds like this is getting okay reviews. I will pick it up on a deep sale. I hope the developers aren't too discouraged as this feels like an IP that would crush with some funding and a sequel.
I've read ten to fifteen reviews, and there are a wide variety of feelings and opinions. It seems to largely come down to those who demand something new and those who are ok with older systems in a new package, which I also am. I don't expect the graphics to be top end, so that's no shock. The kicker for me though is that this open world rpg seems to only offer 20-30 hours of game play. Some games offer close to that in the intro! I'm going to hold off for now. I'll keep my eye on it and wait for a sale.
