The Texans had no choice, they have not even finished paying the trade cost for him -they couldn't just let him walk. Good for him, but I'm glad we are not paying $22 million/yr for a LT while the team is in full rebuild mode (The Texans in contrast are trying to win 'now').
That's absolutely insane amounts of cash for a lineman- but they sort of had to do that in order to protect their investment in him. With the next highest salary being $18M/year, I'm a little shocked they jumped all the way up to $22M...but good for the big guy. He's come a long way from a bong mask video on draft night!
He was given a blank check. You give up those kind of assets for a guy, you're signing him long term. Good for Laremy.
