I never like any of the late risers at QB just before the draft. Go with the guys who were projected at the top long ago.
Thats me, except I'd take them both. Better Odds than Tua or Herbert at 5. Eason 26 and a trade up for Hurts around 50. All day. Or better yet pick up that 50 ish pick with a trade down from 5. Or for luck...How about 26 and 39.... 2 x 13 and 3 x 13, Gotta be right! Hurts is going to be the Russel Wilson of this draft.
I like Hurts as a prospect but this boils down to let's choose two C+ grade prospects instead of one A- Also they cant run the same type of offense IMO so having both wouldnt really be beneficial. For the record though I'm not against taking 2 QB. I'd just do it differently with either Herbert/Tua and a developmental project. Of course if they like Rosen I wouldnt take two.
Drafting Herbert would make one wonder why we traded Tannehill in the 1st place? I don't see much difference between the two and right now Thill is the better passer. So why draft the same guy you just got rid of?
Tanehill has been succesfull in Tennessee precisely because he doesnt have to deal with as much pressure. He has a great running game and a decent offensive line which allows him to work the play action passing game. THill has always been good at play action. He turns into an average QB however when he has to stand in the pocket, work through his reads and throw under pressure.
Herbert is ten years younger, healthy, and will be much cheaper. Lets say you are driving a car that's pretty good, but had 150,000 miles on it, has been in a few accidents, and you're making $400/mo payments. And you have a chance to trade it in and get a new one of the same model without all of the mileage, no accidents, and payments at $100/mo. That's the analogy.
I get that but the point is they are similar players. So why stay with the same one if many didn't like it the 1st time around?
I did, and do, like Tannehill very much. So its hard for me to get inside the head of someone who doesn't.
Don't get me wrong, I like/liked Tannehill as well. I would have preferred we gave him some offensive linemen then send him down the road. I'm just saying I don't see much difference between the two and if many weren't happy the 1st time around why are they going to be happy the 2nd? I just don't care to go through that again. For me, I have a serious problem with Oregon QBs over the last 20 years. They have been highly touted and not performed. To me one of those guys has to show something before I'll get on that train. I know, completely illogical.
I was never a fan of Mariota at any point, college or pro. But I liked Harrington a lot. Great size, highly intelligent, awesome makeup and seems like a really good dude off the field. Someone who I root for and want to see succeed. He went to a really tough place, and they couldn't make it work. I think had he gone somewhere with a good coach and system, it would have been a totally different story. Honestly, in almost every way, he's a lot like Rosen, who you guys know I love. Both were given a crap sandwhich when they were drafted, and the media and public turned on them quickly.
I remember when Joey got to Miami. I knew he had had a rough go in Detroit and I thought he may have more success in Miami. Well I remember him having his revenge game against Detroit and that was about it. But I agree he is a very likable guy. For the record, I liked Rosen coming out in the draft more than just about any other QB, in particular Darnold and Allen. I also thought he was just in a rotten situation in AZ, which he was, but the change of scenery in Miami didn't seem to help him much. I hope he gets some opportunity in Miami regardless of who we draft.
Bro, what about Alabama QBs? JFTR, there really isn't any college that has a long list of amazing NFL QBs. Even schools that are considered "QB factories" don't really have some long list of great NFL QBs. There just haven't been that many of those types of QBs in the history of the NFL. They're rare.
At this point, I think Flores and staff can train Herbert to be a better QB over the next year, while they can't do a lot to keep Tua healthy. So, Herbert would be my pick at #5. No trading up for either player though, as there are too many needs to give up an early pick. Having said that, if the Jags offered #9 and #20 to move up, I'd go with an OT at #9 and Love at #18 (or offer the 9ers a fourth and fifth rounder to move up to #13 just to be sure we got Love).
Not typically. I'm not a Hurricanes fan, but they certainly had quite a run with Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, Vinny Testaverde, Steve Walsh and Craig Erickson back to back to back to back to back. First round pick, first overall pick, first round supplamental pick, first round supplamental , fourth rounder. When your worst QB in the span of eleven years is a 4th rounder, you did it right.
I agree actually. Alabama hasn't been a qb factory either. That said I'd still take a Bama qb over an Oregon one because, SEC.
Yeah, we need to pass on Herbert. He is being overhyped because of his size and his arm, but his bust potential is through the roof. We should be targeting Eason with 1C or 2A.
Just watching Tua play there were sooooo many RAC yards. With Herbert, you saw a guy trying to stretch the field. Also a note watching Tua. A lot of times when he was getting hit or had a player on him, you would see his passes die and not make it to the WR. You could see that he could not make passes on upper body strength alone. There was no doubt in my mind that Herbert could make these types of passes.
I watched an interview with Herbert last night on a "Move the Sticks" segment on NFL network. It was the first time I had ever had the chance to listen to him speak. My impression is that there's a lot going on between his ears. I didn't see any lack of passion for the game. I didn't see an introvert or a subdued demeanor. The guy spoke with conviction. What impressed me about him, as with anyone being interviewed, was the lack of mental pauses. There were no "I mean"s, there were no "uhmmm"s to gather his thoughts. The words flowed unhesitatingly clear and concise. I'm impressed with the guy and the agility of his thought process.
Thank you. I had the same thoughts myself. And not that I think poorly of Tagovolia or Burrow in that respect, because they come across pretty well also. But I thought the most of Herbert, and this is something that's always been important to me. Any player, but especially a QB, who comes across as poor communicator or shows signs of being a dim bulb in interviews really rubs me the wrong way.
He might be a good interviewer, but he has some serious flaws in his game. This guy has Herbert ranked as the 5th best QB in the draft, and I generally agree with his analysis, although I would rank eason over love. I wouldn't touch Herbert with the 5th pick. Would not touch Tua either with that pick because of his injury history. I say our best bet right now is to go Oline with the 5th pick or trade down. We can get Eason or Love with our 1C or 2A picks.
While I generally agree with you, and I could be wrong, but I think it's in a coach's nature to think they can coach a guy up. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we took any one of these guys. A case could be made for or against each. :-)
I hear you, but Herbert has a lot more issues to work on than Eason for example, while Eason has just as much if not better arm talent than Herbert does. Eason is generally more accurate, with better touch on his throws, while having just as good arm strength as Herbert.
Difference is Oregon has produced two top 3 picks who have busted along with a 2nd rounder in the last 20 years while Alabama has not produced any such talent until Tua. Expectations are just a tiny bit higher when you're a top 3 pick.
He can, AND he did, with inferior talent. That's what I think a lot of people miss about Herbert. 4 years starter, 3 different Head Coaches, and really bad WR's around him.
Trade down with Jags for 2021 2nd pick.Take left tackle at 9.BA player at 18 and cesar Ruiz at 24. This way we build a solid line and package farm next year for lawarwnce or fields.
Bro, I could be wrong, but I certainly don't see these guys packaging the farm for anyone and that's something that I really like about them. That doesn't appear to be the way they want to build things. I definitely wouldn't like that plan.
Eventually we r going to need a franchise Qb Next year we still have 2 1s and if we trade down 3 2s. Unless these guys can find a diamond in the rough. This probally what they are going to have to dom
my stance on herbert. if the dolphins draft him, i'm buying a lamar jackson jesery and not watching a dolphins game till he's off the team in 3 years.
After looking at more analysis of Herbert and Love, I think I'd go with Love. Both need a solid year of good coaching but I think the ceiling on Love is just higher. Plus, we can grab an OT at #5 and then Love at #18. Another OT or Center at #26 to close out the first day of the draft.
