I dont give any street creds to those draft clowns 3 weeks before the draft they wtite about every possible scenario so they can use it as I told you so after the draft same writer Tua Tagovailoa moves up in new CBS Sports mock draft By AUSTIN NIVISONSat Apr 04 2020
Man I hope Burrows Tua and Herbert all go in top 4 picks so we can have plenty of options to make the right choice at 5....
One thing that's pretty obvious from the past two seasons is that our admins aren't going with the flow and they have deliberate plans for everything they're doing. A large part of that plan has been evaluating talent...that's how we land undrafted rookies like Preston Williams and so many stud free agents (Needham, Biegel, etc.). With that said, we have literally zero idea what they'll do in the draft...I still think there's a chance that we don't draft a QB at all. They have met with almost all the quarterbacks in this draft though so it could be anyone, and personally I'm okay with that based on the past two pre-seasons. I feel very confident that they'll pick the right QB to lead this franchise regardless whether or not it's the popular opinion.
If we don't take Tua I fear a repeat of 2001 over again when almost everyone had us pegged to take Brees, but Wannstedt and Gailey thought Brees was too short to see over OL and too small to survive the rigors of the NFL. Yeah, nightmare draft. With Tua it's those injury concerns, etc... Can't overthink these things. No one, not even the pros, knows who will succeed or fail, especially at QB. But you give it your best shot, and if Burrow is gone (most likely he is), then you pick Tua and see what happens. I'll be greatly disappointed if we don't pick Tua.
It’s an interesting debate as it really comes down to do you want a project with accuracy issues or a QB with injury issues and potential concern for height. I don’t love either one at #5 but know in a QB driven league you have to take that risk. I’m in the opposite camp as you but I don’t think there’s a clear fire #2.
Well, maybe they'll do the intelligent thing and build a team first so that any QB prospect would have a much better chance for success.
For a long time that was said of Cal QBs under Jeff Tedford. Then Aaron Rodgers came along. Also to dump Oregon’s previous failures from coaches and systems that are no longer in place on Herbert is just wrong. I still have Herbert 3 on my list but I think he’s a very viable top 5 Pick. If we had the first pick last year I’d have taken him 1.
I hear you! Part of me would be okay with them going team first and waiting on our QB until we have addressed our glaring needs, such as the OL. However, I am pretty sure we are going QB all the way with our 1st pick. Until we can shore up the OL, I think all we can hope for is our new QB can help mitigate our OL problems by understanding the defense and quickly processing where to go with the ball. I am happy with how Grier has handled things so far. It seems like we have had trouble identifying quality OL unless they are a high draft pick. I hope the new guys (Allen and McKenzie) will be helpful in that regard. (fingers crossed)
Well, the good news is that there's 4 stud OT's in this draft and we'll almost definitely take one of them in the teens. I think we're locked on a top RB with our 3rd or 4th selection as well, which automatically makes us stronger on offense next season. There's still a few positions to fill on that side of the ball, but I wouldn't be shocked to see us go almost 100% offense (QB, linemen) in the early rounds.
That would actually be the unintelligent thing, because if it was successful, it would push the team's draft position into the middle of the first round or later, where the QBs who are projected to be the best in the draft will never be drafted. There is no corresponding change of that nature for other positions on the field, and so it makes sense to draft a top QB when you're picking early, and focus on other positions at other times.
Good point. However, I think getting a franchise QB is all luck anyway. Guys taken in the top 10 don't always work out, and guys taken later don't always flunk out. I get that the odds are better with the higher quality prospect, but to me, it all boils down to the mental makeup of the guy. That is the tricky part. You think a guy has it all. However, when he gets to the NFL he can't cope with the challenges. Sometimes being able to take a guy in the lower 3rd, in round 1, can be a blessing in disguise.
I mean, the success rate of QB's is ultra low to begin with in the 1st round, so whoever we take may not be the answer. But at least we have two shots with Rosen + new QB.
There are a few SB winning QBs that were taken #1 overall but, it took many seasons to get there. The Mannings and Elway. Far more SB winning QBs came out of the meat of the first round. I would think it's because the #1 QBs were drafted by really crappy teams with unsettled coaching situations, while the QBs taken later were drafted by teams that were built better, with good coaches in place and, more ready to make a run.
I had a coworker suggest this scenario: that they traded down from #5 with one of the teams with 2 first round picks, drafted 2 of the stud OTs, the C from Michigan, and one of the top RBs. They then sign Jameis Winston.
Love the trade down idea... Hell no on Jameis. I would rather roll with Fitzmagic and Rosen... and draft Hurts, Gordon, or even someone like Tom Flacco at the end of the draft and coach them up.
And then here we go again spending perhaps numerous years trying to surround an inadequate QB with the talent that could theoretically make him adequate. When you're picking at the top of the draft, go ahead and get the great QB, and forget about the "surround this other one with this or that" approach.
I literally do not believe this report at all. Well, the Dolphins may have leaked that they were unimpressed with their interview with him, it doesn't mean that they were at all. From everything I have read about Tua is that his character is impeccable. He is a stand up guy, charismatic, and a great leader. I have a very hard time believing that all of a sudden he became off-putting. My guess is that the Dolphins are setting up a smoke screen - and a poor one at that. This is not the bluff that I would make. This article goes on to claim that teams are now thinking he is a product of the weapons around him. Again, this is not a stunning revelation. Even the most casual fans know Bama is consistently full of talent. Yes, this year it appears that they are particularly stacked with three WRs that could eventually be first rounders, but this is not news. Juedy has be highly touted since the preseason and everyone knew Ruggs has elite speed. How could you possibly like Tua then all of a sudden realize all of this - not buying it. If anything, this is a tell that Miami is into Tua. To me, this is like a boy denying an elementary crush, "She is ugly, and I hate everything about her." Why so strong? Unless you are into her. I think a better bluff would be a simpler bluff. "I really like Tua, but we really need to dive into the medicals before we make any sort of conclusion." It is subtle enough, but at the same time, very believable.
Oh, I’m not a fan of the idea, unless they truly believe in Rosen. Then the plan makes more sense, minus the Winston signing, of course. You’d have the most improved oline in the league, plus a back to pair with Howard to upgrade one of the worst rushing attacks ever.
I wouldn't buy a new car that was in three accidents and was close to being totaled.Pass on Tua at 5.
What if it was in one accident that broke an axel, and it had a flat tire once, so they replaced all the tires preemptively?
Saw a mock draft with us taking: 5. Herbert 18. Jones OT 26. Ruiz 39. Swift I’d be very happy with that.
I think the fact that nobody can work out if Miami is smoke screening now is some of the finest work our front office has done in years. Not sure if that says more about our front office's work in recent years or the job they're doing this year of creating mystery.
If RG3 is the model, then that means Flores is a bad coach because Shanahan's greed is what led to the injury that derailed RG3's career. RG3 only had a sprained ligament with his initial injury, and instead of letting RG3 recover Shanahan decided to keep playing RG3 until it basically ended his career as a top level QB (even if for one season). You have to be smart about how you use your QB. And Shanahan was not, not just in playing RG3 when he should have let him recover, but also in designing an offense that would have made it less likely for RG3 to have such an injury.
