"It is done. The Miami Dolphins’ long, public standoff with veteran safety Reshad Jones has finally come to a head, with news breaking this afternoon that the Dolphins have released their long-time presence on the back end. Jones, who was tied to trade rumors throughout the entire 2019 offseason, played in just 4 games and a total of 190 snaps this past season — which will mark an unceremonious ending to an accomplished career in South Florida."

Curious how much cap space will this save the team?

I believe it was 5.8 million saved and 10 million in Dead space.

Yeah, 5.3 is what all of the sites have said. We're now up to 93.5m in cap space.

We could quickly gain another 9.5m by cutting Albert Wilson. And remember that we don't have to spend that all, or right away, so cutting Wilson now could bring us more cap space in 2021.

I don't know that cutting Wilson is a smart move- he is very similar to Grant but they both keep ending up on IR as well. I personally love the lineup of Parker, Williams, Grant, Wilson since it's impossible to cover...are you really going to put a linebacker on Grant and hope for the best?!? LOL I guess Wilson is expendable though if you plan on keeping Grant.

I dont expect the offense to be great regardless. I'd rather just draft a few guys in the second half of the process and see if they can fill the role. If not, go after a better player in 2021. But Wilson is frail and I don't like what he offers as a ceiling. And I'm not counting on Grant at all.

I think Wilson was starting to show that he was getting healthier towards the end of the season. We often seem to forget the difference between being fit and match fit with the time it takes for some players to fully trust their bodies again and get back to their top levels. I'd keep Wilson around for the year and if his body lets him and us down again then let him go next year.

As for Jones, I think this news has been expected since fairly early on into last season so not much of a shock.

Wilson is an upgrade on Grant due to Grant's stone hands. As has been said, Wilson was playing better & faster in the last month after his freak hip injury

Btw, gutted that Jones has gone - great player but high salary, injury history and sometime questionable attitude made this inevitable.

    Why gutted?

Personally, I couldnt be happier that piece of trash is gone.

Anyone who gives up on their team, whether you're in the NFL, a doctor, a construction worker...that person is trash.

I have removed all emotion over Jones... Good or bad.

    He was 32
    He was expensive
    He had health concerns.

No matter how much you liked him or disliked him it was just time to move on

Because for 4 or 5 years, he was one of the best SS in the league but was underrated because he played for some bad teams. Considering he was a 5th round pick, I would say that we got a pretty damn good player and is top 5 in many Fins records.
As I said, questionable attitude (in the last year of Gase's head coaching), injuries and stupid salary (thanks Tannebaum) make him a bad player in peoples' eyes but that is not true. Doesn't make him 'a piece of trash' though, although I am aware that you tend to make these accusations.
